Given the experience, really hard to find something to write here. I guess the location wasn't that bad.
It’s hard for me to write this review, but I feel I owe it to the travel community and fellow readers to share my experience at this hotel. I book a lot of hotels—whether for work or leisure—it’s something I do quite often, all around the world. I’ve learned how to understand the value of a hotel choice and how to make the most out of it. This time was no exception.
We had planned a few days around Zermatt in a camping spirit, and we weren’t even planning on staying at any hotels. But as a spontaneous surprise for my girlfriend, I decided to book one night at a hotel. Since the available options in Zermatt didn’t meet my expectations, I decided to drive a bit further to find something I thought would offer more luxury for a lower price. Hence, this choice.
I spent 350 CHF—yes, 350 CHF—expecting a proper spa and thermal paradise. I booked a Suite, really proud, thinking I’d be surprising my girlfriend with something unique. Since we were only going to stay for about 20 hours, all we really wanted was a luxurious and comfortable room with great spa access.
What we got instead was a hotel room straight out of the 70s. Awful decoration, two very cheaply built bathrooms with no toiletries, two single beds, an ancient fridge, and electronics that hadn’t been updated in decades. No real room service—only a single bottle of sparkling water.
Still, I hoped things might improve with breakfast or the spa. But no. Breakfast was average at best. Not bad, but definitely not worth the price.
Then came the spa. The advertised thermal access cost just 30 CHF, so clearly that wasn’t the reason for the high room rate. Worse, the receptionist charged me 20 CHF extra for sauna access, even though a flyer showed it should cost 3 CHF.
I politely asked why, and the only answer I got was: “You’d pay more in Zermatt.” That’s not an explanation.
An experience I won’t repeat.
