The hotel is opposite the main entrance to Alnwick Castle, so the views are great. It was very clean, comfortable and friendly. The breakfast was first class.
Because the hotel had spa treatments, we had hoped that it would have a pool, but it does not.
The location is superb, literally Alnwick Castle entrance is a case of turning left out of the entrance and crossing the road. Alnwick Gardens, the town itself and other eating places are all easy, safe walking distance away. All of the staff were super friendly and clearly took pride in the hotel and being part of the team. The hotel decor is very tasteful, rooms are super clean and beds amazingly comfortable. We had a castle view room and the lighting at sunset ( it was a lovely weekend) was memorable. Breakfast was great with a quality buffet and included a la carte options with plenty of choice. There is a cosy, classy, bar that residents actually use and the young lady there is great at cocktails and for a friendly chat. Genuinely one of the nicest hotel experiences we've had in the UK. Yes it's a premium hotel, but that doesn't always mean you get what you pay for. Here I felt we did. Treat yourself!
This really wasn't an issue for us, and if you don't like walking you probably wouldn't go to Northumbria, but parking ( of which there seemed to be plenty) was at the rear of the hotel and quite a way away downhill. There were several flights of stairs to get up, which is an effort with luggage - just be sure to drop your bags off at the front before parking up and checking in. There is a disabled parking area part way up with a stairlift though, so the hotel has catered for all needs, Just plan ahead!
Location and staff were great, although reception seemed a bit overwhelmed on the day we checked in.
The room in the annex had unacceptable sound insulation from the room above. Also the bathroom extractor fan was not working and the duty manager informed us that very few of them were working throughout the hotel. No instructions to connect with WiFi were left in the room except a qr code; how can you connect to a site with a code when you aren't on wifi and there is no cellular coverage? We were pleased to accept the waiving of car parking charges as a gesture of goodwill.
Great position.
Car park.
