Worst place to stay in Hokkaido!
Pros:

This hotel was located just a few minutes from the fox farm and the aquarium. However, this hotel is located in a ghost town. Most of the homes and stores are abandoned.

Cons:

We only stayed here luckily for one night and only to break up the drive between Lake Akan and a train ride to Sapporo.
This hotel/motel is old but clean but so old I thought I would fall through the floor. However, the Booking.com description was incorrect. I always pay attention to the facilities. This one listed "spa bath." Before we arrived I inquired and asked if the rooms had private bathrooms and was told yes. Well when we arrived I was shocked to find out that the rooms had private toilets only, big difference. The showers were public. I tried to explain to the front desk that it was best to word the description as, "private toilets, public bathing facilities" so that all guests would understand. Instead of taking my advice I overhead them talking about me, "The American said in America this in America that. This is Japan." I do not have expressive Japanese language but I have receptive so I confronted them (with my translation app) and said if they did not want to be explicit in their description then do not use an international reservation service like booking.com and only cater to those who understand public bathing and who live in Japan. Since this place was located in a neighborhood where what looked like 90% of the buildings were abandoned, they probably have to seek foreign visitors to stay open. Everyone in the world would understand what private toilet and public bathing facilities means. Nonetheless since I am from the US and I do not use public baths we did not bathe that night. This was the only disappointing accommodation on this trip and we stayed in 6 hotels all booked on booking.com. For any of you that want to still stay at this hotel for nearly $100/ night note that our room had a dial phone, fan (no ac), and only one outlet.
