The building and history of the hotel/castle
Breakfast quality let it down, we didn’t have breakfast the second day, more budget hotel quality. Would expect freshly cooked for price.
We had a lovely big room which was very comfortable. Dining was excellent and portion size very good.
Unfortunately in our bedroom there was a very bright exit sign which made no sense. Was like a becon all night. Had to cover it. Needs to be removed.
Beautiful enlarged castle and estate. We stayed in the original house. Extra large bedroom suite and bathroom with both a shower and tub. We arrived without reservations for dinner after a long drive. Front desk staff made sure we had a place despite busy evening. Dinner was okay, recommend the chowder. Breakfast was excellent, but the hot dishes were hidden in another room, separate from the cold dishes. Not sure how many guests were aware of the secondary room, within the castle area. Bar area has excellent live music. Worth looking up online and reading very interesting history of ownership of the estate.
Take into account that it is an older, renovated property. But for the price, there are some maintenance issues to be addressed in the original building. There was mold in the shower, and water pressure of hot water is low. The hot and cold spigots on the sink were mislabeled in our room and since the hot water takes a long time and can go to nearly nothing, ensuring that the spigots are correctly identified is necessary. It would be nice if bubble bath was provided for the tub.
During dinner, we asked staff to turn off the canned background music in the Garden Restaurant because we were hearing both live music from the bar and background music!! They hadn't even noticed until pointed out and still did not turn it off, so somewhat unpleasant atmosphere while eating.
The grounds of hotel were fab.

Service was very slow,long time waiting for a drink/order both during the evening.

The bed was not comfortable at all . It was very hard and very disappointed with it being 4 *.
Also thought the menu im the restaurant was very limited.

Beautiful and large rooms with firm and comfortable mattresses. Dining rooms are traditional and comfortable. A room for after dinner drinks is comfortable.
I did not care for the garden bar in particular.

Staff were bit all over the place. Loads of staff but not great service
Everything was fantastic. Food was excellent. Breakfast a little disappointing.
No air con in bedroom but it was a very warm night.

Everything Heather on reception was absolutely brilliant she show us two rooms because we wanted a quiet room so she let us pick from 2 rooms we choose the old part of hotel castle it was fabulous the other room was just as beautiful its so clean beautiful decor staff in all areas were lovely very professional we had dinner in hotel garden restaurant it was fantastic food was excellent I would suggest if ye to stay ere have ur dinner in hotel its beautiful food chefs ere are brilliant dinner was prefect waitress was also very good at there job breakfast in morning was tasty and excellent we had our breakfast at old part of castle beautiful stone walls every thing was wonderful please keep up the good work everyone that works there are very good at their jobs will definitely come back again thanks to ye all for a lovely stay .
Nothing everything was excellent

Het ontbijt zeer goed en uitgebreid. De bediening atttent en zeer vriendelijk. Ook het diner was prima. Goed verzorgd. De kamer was groot met prima bedden. Ook de badkamer was van alles voorzien.
Exceptional hotel. Loved our stay. The room was fantastic. Staff were brilliant.We particularly liked the garden and how relaxing it was.The manager Ritchie made us feel so welcomed and couldn't have done anymore for us. Will definitely return.
