I’m not one to leave a bad review and just planned to not leave one, but after checking out I was pestered multiple times to leave a 10/10 review which wouldn’t be accurate.
The staff are lovely
Location is a bit out of the way so expect a walk up a very steep hill but manageable.
Our main issue was the door didn’t close properly and left a few inch gap. We woke up to cockroaches in our room. When we raised this to the owner he told us the hotel is in harmony with nature so they may come. We liked that this hotel was more in the jungle than others on the coast but a closing door is bare minimum not just for stopping insects but also from a safety perspective.

The room was furnished to a good standard, with a comfortable bed and sofa. The room itself was large. The location of the hotel is perfect if you are looking for a quiet spot to get away from it all. The security Uncle is so kind, and often will sit up til late waiting for you to come back, to see you are back inside safely. He gave me an umbrella during the rainy days too, a top bloke.
I was quite disappointed with the overall experience in the end. I booked knowing that the hotel didn't have a swimming pool, nor provided breakfast. That was okay with me, as it gave me incentive to get some exercise walking down the steep hill to the beach cafes and the sea each morning. As others have said, if you are too unfit or a bit elderly, the steep incline is going to be too much to handle.
So far so good, I thought. Paid 230 usd for 7 nights, so I wasn't expecting the Ritz. However, after about 3 nights i became quite dissatisfied at how literally nothing was done during my stay......no room cleaning, no fresh water bottles even just left outside on the balcony until i explicitly kept asking, same with running out of toilet roll. After 4 nights, the owner asked me if i wanted the room cleaned and I said yes. Came back, and the bed hadn't been made, and apart from my toiletries being put in a neat line, it didn't look like anything had actually been cleaned. I understand it's a tropical climate, so the lizards didn't bother me too much, and i killed the cockroach quick enough, but maybe if there was some regular cleaning it would discourage the hotel from turning into an animal sanctuary? The last night was the crescendo....i thought a moth or fly was in the room, until i turned the light on.....another cockroach had ran across my chest in the bed!
Surely it must be very cheap to hire a cleaner on a daily basis. There is a lot of potential with this property, but the only time the owner guy became quite motivated was when he requested the last 10,000 rupees from me. I wish he brought the same energy when ensuring the guests had a great stay! It was quite annoying to be "chased" for the money because i had already provided my credit card details on booking.com.....the hotel had chosen not to take payment, so I came willing to pay on card upon arrival on my first night. Was told they preferred cash!
The host was amazing. So attentive and friendly. Our stay was great, the room was very nice and clean
If your coming with luggage be prepared to walk up spiral stairs however I cannot fault the host as he helped us with luggage both times and was so helpful and kind

When we arrived we were positively surprised by the size of the room and its initial appearance however we then noticed the room was not super clean and there was an ant issue on the balcony and the window was broken so the bathroom became very wet due to rain. We thought the location would be fine given we like walking but it is a very steep hill and then a busy main road to get to the beach/town and even the owner couldn’t get us a tuk tuk/ taxi with our bags when we needed to check out. We don’t like leaving bad reviews but we just want to be honest.
The location is fantastic
everything is so convenient. The beach is just a short walk away, and you can easily explore the surrounding area without needing transport. Restaurants, cafes, and shops are all nearby.
The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and well maintained, with enough space to relax properly. The balconies add a lovely touch, making the stay even more enjoyable.
The staff were attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist with anything we needed. They also provide parking, which is very convenient.

Absolutely gorgeous place with the most amazing view at the ocean. The room was very big, clean and the bed so comfortable. The staff is really friendly and always awailable for any kind of help. Thank you so much for everything, I hope I can come back another time!
Wonderful hotel with amazing hosts who always had a smile on their faces. Everything was very clean and super cozy, we truly felt at home. I could truly feel the love for detail in the interior design. There were plenty of shelves and storage spaces, cute paintings on the walls, and the colors matched beautifully. It was really decorated with so much care and love! A special highlight was the spacious room and the constant hot water with great water pressure - even on the 4th floor! The location is nice: close to the center yet in a quiet area (little uphill). The hosts also kindly helped us arrange a scooter rental. We would definitely come back!
Honestly, nothing really. There were just a few ants in the room, which didn’t bother us at all and is completely understandable given the location in nature.

Die Besitzer und der Hotelonkel waren überaus freundlich, hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend.
Es war mir unmöglich ein Tuk Tuk für den abendlichen Spaziergang über Pickme oder Uber zu buchen - liegt aber leider generell an der Tuk-Tuk-Mafia-Situation welche ich in ganz Unawatuna am krassesten wahrgenommen habe.
Der Besitzer war aber durchaus hilfsbereit und hat mir zu den gleichen Preisen wie auf der App zeitgleich eine Fahrer organisiert! Kann dem also kein Punktabzug geben.

Everything. Location is perfect so close to all main beaches. Staff also. The owner ordered food for us. Booked a tuk tuk . The room is so clean with air condition , tv, clothing iron . I felt so safe like I was at my home.
The bed is comfortable, the shower is great, and the owner is lovely. Even after we checked out, he let us use the bathroom so we could shower before heading to the airport.
He also ordered us a taxi that was cheaper than the Pick Me app.
I highly recommend this accommodation!

Der var rent og flot. Sengen var dejlig. De ansatte var utrolig søde og hjalp med at booke transfer til lufthavnen.
Det ligger godt oppe på en bakke, så det skal man være forberedt på, hvis man går op med sin bagage nede fra hovedvejen. Men det var ikke noget problem! Det er bare rart at vide på forhånd.
