Everything was perfect. Staff even escorted us down a dark alley to a fabulous hidden sushi restaurant they had kindly reserved two of the ten seats for us.

This hotel is an oasis of calm in Kyoto, whilst it's small the quality of the place especially for the cost is great .The staff couldn't do enough to help us and were incredibly friendly and professional. The place is only really a 15 minute walk from most places in the center of Tokyo, and a very easy walk up towards the temples on the philosopher's path
We stayed four nights at Higashiyama Shikikaboku as a family of four with two teenagers, and it was the perfect base for exploring Kyoto.
The location is ideal. Gion, the Yasaka Shrine, Maruyama Park and the old streets around the Yasaka Pagoda are all within walking distance, so we could set off on foot every morning and come back easily in the evening. After long days in the city, the hotel was a calm and stylish place to come home to.
The staff were warm, attentive and always ready to help. One morning we had breakfast served in our room, which was a lovely, relaxed start to the day.
But what really impressed us came after we had checked out. We had left some clothes and even drinks behind, and the hotel sent everything after us to our next stop. We didn't have to chase anything; they simply took care of it. That kind of service is rare, even in Japan.
So much thought and care has been put into every detail. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Our favourite of our 2 week holiday.

The property is beautiful, feels like getting into a spa
Location was good, walkable distance to every interetsing place. Stuff was amazing and they gave amazing food recommendations!
The hotel has very good pictures but it doesn't look like that at all in reality! I am not sure how Michelin gave them a key.
It is also not a 5 star hotel but 3 star hotel and way too expensive for what it is.
The rooms were rather dusty and they had a very strange bathroom with the toilet standing in the middle of the bathroom which made it hard to use the sink.
They have onsen on the top floor where you look into the windows of the neighbourhooding houses. So the hotel and price felt like a scam
Staff were very accommodating, dining area, outdoor bath was a bonus! pajamas and socks, size and shape of room were beautiful so well crafted and the amenities it offered, such as hot water kettle, refrigerator and stereo. We also loved the window treatments, the blinds and black out screen. Loved the location near historical sites and away from touristy crowds. Special bartender at night serving craft cocktails was a nice touch, such a nice person!
The one sink area in the bathroom was small for 2 people, but we adapted! Limited breakfast menu, and no other food offering during the day but eateries nearby.
It was a cosy well appointed boutique hotel in a quiet area of North Higashiyama. We could walk to Gion, downtown to Kawaramachi on the left and Okazaki and the famous temples and zoo on the right of the hotel. The walks were lovely. The staff were warm and attentive to our needs. Service standards were high. Special thanks to Ogawasan for preparing us a wholesome and generous breakfast which served us well on our walks and climbs to a number of shrines on hilltops! Thank you for the conversations which we enjoyed absolutely. Till we meet again, arigatogozai masta.

As much as we wish we could keep this gem a secret for ourselves, the world deserves to know about this incredible place, and Higashiyama Shikikaboku deserves to be recognized for its world-class service and accommodations. Higashiyama Skikikaboku is more than a hotel; it is a beautifully designed experience. The rooms are well-appointed and peaceful, with small touches reflecting a great attention to detail. We loved having breakfast each day in the bright downstairs dining space, drinking in the view from the rooftop at sunset, and enjoying evening soaks in the private open-air onsen after a long day of sightseeing.
It’s a gorgeous, clean, relaxing space. But what truly elevates Higashiyama Shikikaboku is the service. From check-in to check-out and every moment in-between, the staff provided us with a seamless and luxurious experience. The staff was warm and friendly and happy to answer all of our questions, curate local recommendations, and take care of details on our behalf such as calling taxis and arranging luggage forwarding. We have never been so well taken care of, and we are so grateful to every single member of the staff’s genuine care and delight in being part of our journey.
Being an LGBTQ+ couple traveling on our honeymoon, my wife and I weren’t always sure how we would be received if we disclosed our reason for traveling. I’m so glad we told Higashiyama Shikikaboku, because the staff was immediately affirming and overjoyed when they learned of the special event. They made us feel immediately comfortable and welcome from the second we walked through the doors, and were so happy to celebrate with us. They went above and beyond to give us a special and memorable stay. We had a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience as guests and will certainly be customers for life. Thank you for everything!

It was a quiet cool oasis to escape to during our summer visit to Kyoto. The staff were delightful. The facilities were traditional and refined and modern.
Loved the location and the friendly staff. So accommodating and made our stay special. The room was beautiful and we used the onsen daily.

Although we only took advantage on one day, the breakfast was extensive and lovely. The location is VERY convenient. Several hundred feet from subway. Easily walkable to many important shrines, museums, restaurant areas, shopping.
