First time to Edinburgh for my boyfriends birthday. Staff went over and beyond to make our stay special . Thank you so much. I hoped to thank the manager in person but we had to leave for our train. Location is better in the old town where we were, more atmospheric. Premier room is what I expected, clean, tidy and all in working order.
Would highly recommend this hotel . Very clean and comfortable in a really good central location at a good price. We had a gig at usher hall so was perfect for us. Would definitely stay here again
The rooms would have a higher star rating - usual clean, comfortable Premier Inn rooms. Staff were also very welcoming and helpful. It is in a good location for the sights of Edinburgh.
What let this hotel down was the chaotic, understaffed breakfast on two of our three mornings. Saturday was not too bad but someone had to be fetched from the dining room (by a guest) to deal with people at reception. On the Sunday, there was only one staff member who went to fetch a second when it got busy. However, we had to clear a table ourselves to use and there were no bowls, plates, mugs, cutlery, juice, yoghurt or fruit. We eventually waited 25 minutes for mugs as they had to be cleared from the tables and then washed. Queues of frustrated guests - and the two staff members rushed around valiantly trying to keep up with the requests. Monday was not much better although there were three staff and the tables had been cleared. We still had to wait for crockery and cutlery to be washed before they could bring more out and had to ask for yoghurt and fruit to be refilled. The dining room is small for the size of the hotel so gets very busy at popular times. The lack of crockery and food just slowed the whole process. Luckily we were not in a hurry.
I would still stay here again due to its location but if you have a deadline, make sure you leave plenty of time for breakfast.
After a long busy day was too tired to venture back out so went to Thyme restaurant. Food was awful, cold but overcooked , a handful
Of fries and a burger you could sole your shoe with. Tomato soup came out congealed with the croutons that had been sat in it so long the soup had all been soaked up. Flat cola. Was charged full amount by staff member who was completely uninterested and couldn’t care less. AVOID!
The Premier Inn Lauriston Place is the branch we usually stay in when visiting Edinburgh as it is nicely situated close to the Grassmarket. Check in was friendly and efficient and our fifth floor room spacious and comfortable. The only slight downside is that the shower is one of those step into the bath and try to avoid the wet plastic curtain variety. No doubt a modern shower will be installed in due course.
In previous visits to this branch we don’t recall ever having a properly hot buffet breakfast, and would normally give it a miss. As free breakfasts were included in our rate however we had them - and here is a summary:
Day 1: Much of the buffet was almost cold. We decided to forego the two dried up fried eggs left in a dish and asked for them to be replenished. This was done pretty quickly, but rather than the anticipated freshly fried eggs, these had rubbery whites and stone cold yolks and had obviously been cooked ages ago and left on a tray in the kitchen. Almost laughable - you could hardly make it up.
Day 2: Much improved, partly because we both asked for soft poached eggs, which were perfectly cooked and very good, and the bacon etc was reasonably warm.
Day 3: Generally lukewarm fare.
The bottom line is that we like this hotel for the location, and the staff have been friendly and nice throughout, but I doubt that we would have the breakfast again.
Nice quiet room, comfortable beds as always, helpful staff, great breakfast. Close to the city centre but the atmosphere in the hotel is calm and pleasant.
Hotel overall was fair for the price.
One staff member to cover check in and breakfast check in kept people waiting.
All in breakfast states multiple choice of eggs, there was only fried! Now if you had to order them, they should've had a notice to say.
My wife and I concluded, if we were to visit Edinburgh again, we would choose a more central location. the hotel was a good location for the National Museum.
Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Check-in: The guy was barely audible and lacked any enthusiasm whatsoever so ever. 1 room ready @ 3pm and the other still not ready, yet on asking again it was, not sure what system he was looking at or at all. Breakfast: Both morning we cleared our own tables, collected our own cutlery and reminded the staff of all the items that had not been replenished (Water, juice, fruit, sausages, beans, etc). Every time we asked a question the response was ‘ask my colleagues’ so not sure who did what or if they even spoke to one another, an absolute joke to the extent they didn’t even seem bothered that so many others were also obviously unhappy with the service being provided.
This is by far the worst hotel in which I’ve stayed and let’s just make something clear, I’m no snob and have stayed in many a Premier Inn and other hotels of various ratings, but this one really takes the biscuit when it comes to service or more importantly the lack of.
Overall lovely hotel room had plenty space for me as i am disabled we slept well bed was comfy found the pillows good not to soft just the way i like my pilliws
We stayed here as we had a Suzanne Vega Concert in the Usher Hall Edinburgh and this was nice and close as my mobility isn’t that great. It was a 7 minute walk which I could cope with. The room itself was really neat tidy and clean as I have come to expect from a premier inn. The facilities around about are good. Staff were very helpful and easy access to tea coffee milk etc etc. towels warm fluffy and bed as comfortable as ever. Please don’t ever change. Loved our visit to the capital . Only thing was when you take the card out by the door the heating goes off. The room was cold when we got back later on that evening. But that’s not a. Complaint that’s just an observation
Overall everything was good, solid hotel, just don't bother with early check in because they won't give it to you. We had one staff member say we were all good for early check in then another staff member came in and told us we didn't an hour later just as we went to check in, and gave us attitude while doing it even though we didn't argue at all.
I stay with Premier Inn a lot, so when me and my boyfriend wanted a little break away in Edinburgh of course I booked to stay here. As soon as we arrived everything was off. Paid for early check in at 11, arrived earlier so was happy to wait. Struggled to get in the building, nobody at front desk. Ringing the bell several times with no answer. Anyway managed to get someone’s attention 15mins later at 10:55. Gentleman looked very flustered, asked us to wait for 5mins which is fine. When we checked in, took forever!! Unsure why, as a couple came in after us and were checked in so quickly. Kept glancing up at me looking worried, then said it won’t be long. All very confusing, he really didn’t look like he knew what he was doing and it must have taken around 15 mins to check in, which doesn’t sound a lot but usually it’s less than 5 mins (the couple after us were almost instantly checked in) Hallway carpets were really grubby, looks like they haven’t been hoovered in weeks. Bed linen looked clean and the beds/pillows were comfy. Carpet floor in the bedroom also really grubby. When using the toilet, glanced at the wall next to me so see brown splat marks above the toilet tissue dispenser (I don’t even want to know what they were) Hairs were in the shower floor, some gaps in the ceiling boards with insulation popping through. One of the USB chargers had fallen through so my boyfriend couldn’t charge his phone on that side of the bed. Only one towel left in the room for 2 people, which hasn’t a massive issue as I just asked for another downstairs. A group of men woke me up around 3:40am laughing and talking loudly right outside our door for about 10mins which was frustrating. Over all just really shabby and disappointing for a Premier Inn.
Things to know beforehand: the wifi is a joke, the bed is hard, the pillows are thin, and it is NOT a good place for dinner. We decided to have dinner at the hotel. After the one person working sat us at a table, we waited and waited and got tired of that and left without ever seeing another staff member. It turns out that there was only one person to do three jobs - staff the bar, wait tables, and staff the front desk. My guess is that the place is just really poorly managed. Even at check-in, there was only one staff member available to do all the jobs necessary. I feel sorry for the few employees there. How could it be their fault that the place is so badly understaffed?
The location is very good. Staff was helpful and polite. I got the faster internet package and it worked very well. The room is a decent size.
However the carpet in the room was old and dirty. There was a smell in the room which I attributed to the carpet, so I kept the window open as much as I could.
Stayed at this hotel while visiting the area. The rooms are clean, quiet and we got a good night's sleep. However the staff are not friendly or helpful. My friend is in a wheelchair and I had to enquire what to do in a fire usually we are told and ask if we need further assistance. The evening meal was a joke, we waited over 90 mins to have 2 course and we had to cancel the 3rd as we run out of time.
I really like Premier Inn hotels and this one did not disappoint. The staff were attentive and friendly . Our room was spacious and clean. As usual the beds are terrific . One member of staff ‘G’ was particularly helpful . . He assisted me in a few requests with patience and a smile . . You are lucky to have him
I’ve left one star off because of attitude of a breakfast staff member He was surly and rude. Didn’t catch his name
Demi however was brilliant, friendly & professional
Handy Premier Inn located in a great spot in Edinburgh. Very clean and friendly staff. Special mention to Demi on breakfasts - super friendly and helpful and lots of smiles for so early in the morning!
I am a regular user of Premierinns across the country and find them to be great places to stay: good value and providing everything I need. I never have any problems but unfortunately at this Premierinn I felt really let down. I paid quite a lot of money for the room … more than I normally pay so I wanted everything to be just right but unfortunately, I found the bed uncomfortable, or should I say the pillows. All of them were incredibly thin and very old feeling with the fibres inside matting up and going flat into layers although half of the time they'd fallen down the back of the bed as the bed was on wheels and kept moving forward. As a result it took a very long time to get to sleep each night. I paid extra for “Ultimate” Wi-Fi but the speed was 8 mbps which, let’s face it, is unacceptable and a complete RIP off. I'm sure for £150 a night I could have found somewhere much better, much more central and much more comfortable.
