Underwhelmed
Pros:

So the room was nice enough but there was remnants of silly string on the ceiling and a load of tape on the wall behind the TV suggesting someone had a party in there recently and it just hadn't been cleaned up properly by the hotel staff?
Also, asked if the veggie food was cooked separately or on the same surfaces as the meat and the young girl said "I assume its all cooked together?" and had to be prompted to go and actually ask the kitchen. The answer was it's cooked separately but if you have a staff member answering allergy/dietary questions, at least have someone that has the sense to go and check without being asked instead of guessing.

Cosy and quiet accessible room but experienced some parking issues
Pros:

Great accessible room, warm and quiet. Only the lack of accessible parking spaces would cause me to rate the experience 5/5.

Location perfect for Shambles.
Pros:

Location is good 10 mins walk to the shambles.
A couple of niggling things no hand towels, twin rooms aren't twin rooms, a double bed & a child's bed. Some of the staff was a bit unfriendly.

Not cheap but doesn’t disappoint
Pros:

Nice room and bathroom. Comfortable bed…Spotless . Excellent breakfast. Nice comfortable lounge area. We couldn’t get a car parking slot as very small car park which means we had to park at Fosse Bank council car park across the road and at £25 for 24 hours was quite expensive. I think there’s one a bit cheaper but in the dark and pouring rain we didn’t really want to be driving around trying to find it.

Staff really care!
Pros:

Overheard a gentleman training a new staff member at the end of breakfast service. He explained to her that the most important thing was that guests had a good experience even at the end of service or if they arrived a little late. So he said not to clear away the food too promptly.

Service with a smile would be nice
Pros:

Stayed for 2 nights in a family room during the Oct school holidays. The room was usual Premier Inn standard which is good value. The location is excellent although a bit of a walk from the train station.

The main issue we had with this hotel was that the service was terrible. The staff came across as disinterested and miserable. We arrived early so checked our bags in & went off exploring. When we returned, the guy came out the back office, took our tickets & disappeared into the luggage room for ages. He then came back & said it would be better if we went to get our own luggage. Thinking the room must be stacked with luggage, we said no problem only to find our bags were pretty much the only bags in the room. The room had no toilet roll & it took two trips to reception over a 2 hour period to be handed loo roll to take back to the room. It also took a similar length of time & attempts to get batteries replaced on the TV remote that wasn’t working.

The breakfast was OK however we were put off by a hair found on the bacon taken from the buffet. When we raised this with the staff it was met with nothing other than a sigh. Throughout our whole stay, it just seemed like providing basic customer service levels was a chore in what was otherwise a great stay in a lovely city.

Comfortable Stay with Prompt Issue Resolution, Though Customer Service Varied
Pros:

We recently stayed at the Premier Inn York City Centre (Layerthorpe). The location is practical, and the hotel is clean. The price feels reasonable for the area. It is about a 10–15-minute walk to the centre, which is convenient.

We had two issues during the stay. On the first morning, there was no hot water in the bathroom sink. When we reported it to a younger female staff member, the interaction lacked empathy, and we did not feel listened to. Later, we spoke with a tall male staff member, and the difference was clear. He was attentive and communicated in a straightforward, reassuring way. The problem was fixed by the time we returned in the afternoon.

On the second evening, the TV remote became stuck on the guide screen. We reported it, and it was resolved quickly.

We also want to note that the same female staff member checked us in the day before. Her communication felt flat and lacked the enthusiasm and customer-care awareness we normally expect from Premier Inn. Other staff interactions were noticeably more positive.

Regarding breakfast, we have stayed here before, and each time the hot food items have been lukewarm rather than hot. However, staff will prepare fresh eggs on request, which is helpful.

Our room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel itself was quiet. Even with the issues, the quick fixes and the helpfulness of some staff made the stay generally satisfactory.

Excellent stay at Premier inn Layerthorpe York.
Pros:

We have had a very enjoyable stay at the Premier Inn Layerthorpe in York. The hotel is very welcoming and comfortable having clean rooms and good facilities. The only drawback is the car park which is limited throughout the day. You have to wait for people to leave so you can get a car parking space.

Okay, nothing special though
Pros:

The stay was okay. We stayed there as we were going to the Barbican and the price was reasonable. Its a pleasant short walk into the area around Shambles which was really convenient.
The staff we found to be indifferent amd distracted at times. Chatting with each other whilst checking us in and when we ordered drinks at the bar before going out.
The bathroom didn't have enoigh towels, in our opinion, for 2 grown women who wanted to shower and wash their hair. There was also grime along the shower screen. The hot water in the bathroom sink was not always coming through, despite running the tap for almost 5 minutes on one occasion.

Great location
Pros:

Stayed here november 16th for 2 nights. Location is great, there is parking but very limited. We paid extra for premier plus room which was nice & comfortable. Our stay was good but let down by breakfast, coffee area was quite messy, machine had leaked coffee & it was spilt everywhere, dirty cups. The one morning the pain au chocolate were burnt, they were inedible.

It's the little things
Pros:

I have stayed at quite a few Premier Inns over the past three or four years and this is the first one I would not return to. Sure, it meets company standards for cleanliness and comfort but seems to be seriously under staffed. On arrival there was a man at reception complaining about something and asking for a discount - a very young staff member could only give head office email. Throughout our stay little things were not able to be sorted - from having to fins out own table at very busy breakfast times but being required to book for dinner when there were always tables galore, through one person being responsible for check-in, reception and service at the bar, to losing money in the quite expensive vending machine only to be told "it's not our machine there's nothing I can do". I'm not blaming the staff - they were for the most part quite young and were (again for the most part) trying their best but I feel this hotel suffers from a lack of leadership which either empowers or takes responsibility for dealing with problems. These little issues are handled much better at other P I hotels.

Brill stay
Pros:

Fab stay. Just what we needed. Comfy room, bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities. It was good to have the option to have food there!!! The meal deal was good. You could get a 2 course evening meal with a small drink and breakfast for £26! Very comfortable per person.
The only one thing personal for my is they could have had a bottle of water (small) in the room!
Arrive early as parking is at a premium not the premium inns fault

Lovely staff!
Pros:

Nice hotel in a good area, close to the centre of York. Had a lovely experience when one of the staff, Meilu, overhead us toasting our anniversary and wrote Happy Anniversary with the Chocolate sauce on our desserts. It made our evening.

BEWARE. Unfair Parking Charges
Pros:

BEWARE. Unfair Parking Charges... Disappointed with Unfair Parking Charges**

We stayed at the Premier Inn York City Centre (Layerthorpe) on Sunday while attending a memorial service with my father, who is an Army veteran. We arrived around 12 noon and parked in the hotel’s car park, which costs £16 per night.

The next day, we went for a walk around York Minster and returned to the hotel around 12:40 pm — just 40 minutes past the day before. When we went to pay for parking, we were shocked to be charged an unbelievable £32, effectively double the rate, just for being slightly over time.

It feels very unfair to be charged for a *full extra day* for such a short overstay, especially when **no one at the hotel warned us** this would happen. It left us feeling robbed and disappointed after what should have been a respectful and memorable trip.

Beware of the parking policy — it’s not made clear and can end up costing you double!*

Great premier inn but take heed of parking advice
Pros:

This is one of the more modern Premier inns so fantastic as usual BUT take note of parking advice. Drop of luggage & passengers at parking area of Premier inn , even if it means parking on yellow boxed areas for a short period of time. It is almost impossible to park here so save yourself the stress and move (once unloaded) to the Morrisons car park a 100 yards down the road -it is a better (&safer) option and , if you have the Ringo app , it is just £8 for 24 hours which you can keep renewing . It is infinitely better particularly if you are planning on using your car during the day as it’s unlikely you will find a parking space again if you ever leave the Premier inn car park.
This should be your top thing to take in when staying here.

Great stay, comfy bed and friendly staff — but parking a real issue
Pros:

We had a lovely stay — the room was clean and comfortable, and the bed was one of the comfiest we’ve had in a while. The location is excellent, just a stone’s throw from historic York, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. The breakfast was brilliant too.

The only downside was the parking — it was very difficult to find a space anywhere nearby, and we ended up parking quite a distance from the hotel. This was a real struggle with a young family and heavy bags, and the cost of parking was quite high too.

Such a shame, as everything else about the stay was perfect!

Poor parking facilities and expensive
Pros:

Location was good but parking very poor! Hardly any spaces and if you were lucky enough to be able to park it £16 per night on top of the cost of the hotel stay. Parking elsewhere meant parking at a retail outlet down the road and carrying your luggage up a road to the hotel! We didn't have breakfast as very expensive if you are vegan as not much to have.
