Friendly staff, clean room, free parking, excellent breakfast. Overall a brilliant stay. Will definitely return next time I am in Durham.
Really nice stay at this hotel, we stay at Premier Inn quite often but the service here at reception and when we had breakfast was superb. Staff efficient but friendly. Rooms very clean, although a tad dated- the staff are clearly keeping the hotel immaculate. Plenty to do in Durham town centre nearby we'd go out there again. Free parking when staying away is always a bonus.
We were allocated a room directly above the main entrance when there were apparently other rooms available. Kept awake by banging noises as the doors opened and closed up until midnight and then again from 6am. I would have expected this room to be a last resort if there were no others available. Complained to reception but at 6am it was too late to do anything about it. Told them I'd email customer services to see if they will honour the good night guarantee but still awaiting a response.
Good location easy to find Nice quiet room. Great breakfast with good choices and Adam was very helpful on reception. No complaints.
The air conditioning unit would not switch off, went to receptionist was fobbed off saying it was bathroom fan which it was not, complained to manager nothing was done ,
Clean, bed very comfortable and helpful staff. Slight issue about postcode taking us to the neighbouring retail park but we quickly found the hotel.
We used the premier inn as a base for the Great North run. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious with a fan provided in case we were hot (not the case). My room felt cold one evening but warmed up quickly when I turned the heater on. Breakfast was served in a dedicated breakfast room and although busy, we didn't have to wait for a table or food. There was a nice touch of water and bath salts being provided for GNR runners in tue reception in the morning and biscuits on our return. The only small downside was the free wi-fi was patchy but given its free, I wasn't too bothered.
Stayed here for a night while visiting a friend in Durham. Check in process was easy, rooms were spacious and clean. Had a nice tv, hangers and plenty of storage space.
Had a pleasant stay here and would recommend. Can imagine it gets hot in the peak of summer in these rooms but thankfully had a fan already in our room.
No aircon, one small extremely inadequate fan. Impossible to sleep. Daughter had room on opposite side which had much better fan and was cool. Need to make sure room has adequate fan on the side of the hotel where sun comes in!
This hotel was a complete waste of money. The rooms were ridiculously hot! 30 degrees at night when it was only 13 degrees outside? Goodness knows how that worked. The staff were friendly but there wasn’t much they could do other than offer a fan to blow the hot air around. Terrible sleep each night. Definitely do not boom here.
This was our fifth visit to this site ,main features that are lacking is sat nav location is not good as you are led into a retail park up a bus lane before realising premier inn is behind marks and Spencer but have to leave park and drive round .rooms could do with air conditioning as they are too warm but this will never happen as premier inn is more focused on profit rather than costomer satisfaction. The main change this time was they have sold the brewers fayre where it was breakfast and dinner in a fantastic atmosphere, play area for kids ( we stay because of proximity to homeside park -large children's activity adventure, ) the staff were fantastic and good value for money .it has been sold as it was not profitable enough- better signage would help. The fantastic breakfast experience has now been replaced with a small claustrophobic room too small for use too many tables and not enough equipment and display / serving areas which everyone is trying to use at same time. the staff are fantastic but can only work with the small and insufficient areas. Again a drop in costomer satisfaction in the name of more profit from someone who has never paid to stay or worked in a Premier inn
Room (first floor) was unbearably hot from evening to our 9am check out time, even though the daytime outside temperature had been below 20 degrees C all day (a grotty looking pedestal electric fan was already in place in the room but sounded like it was on its last legs so did not keep on).
Hotel was very noisy with doors constantly banging even at 11pm, and the whirring of the fan in the room next door.
Bathroom smelt of damp and was a bit tatty, but appeared clean, as did the bedroom.
Was very glad to only be staying one night - high point was friendly member of staff on desk at check out (don’t know his name) - Saturday 16th August @ 9am.
Lots of parking.
I was expecting more at this hotel , given the favourable reviews. In fact we found it quite a downbeat place.
It's annoying to reach as you have to go to the Arnison Centre roundabout and come back. The Brewers Fayre was closed as of the end of July. Something was operating at the site but there was no publicity in our rooms so I have no idea what it was.
There was no cut through to walk to the Arnison Centre.
The hotel is large so it felt a bit of a faff carrying our cases upstairs and along a couple of corridors to our rooms.
The rooms, like the hotel, were standard Premier Inn rooms- nothing special. No air conditioning. the Wi-Fi broke up a few times.
All in all I doubt we would return.
Friendly helpful staff, great location and good 2 nights sleep in a clean comfortable bed and room. Ample parking. Good decor and great buffet breakfast with helpful friendly staff.
Hideous hotel. 1st room stunk of damp, moved to a disabled room that was boiling hot, no air conditioning and bed uncomfortable.
Had to go into town to eat as the restaurant was closing in 2 days and hardly any food left, had to have breakfast there and many items missing, if this had been advised at the time of booking would not have gone here.
Worst Premier Inn I have ever stayed in and Guest Relations said to contact the hotel for a possible refund for breakfast.
Difficult to find using satnav, but, on arrival, parking was easy and there was a pleasant welcome from the receptionist. Very good standard of room which was expected given the usual consistency of Premier Inns. The only downside was that the onsite restaurant was passing into different ownership a fortnight after our stay. So the Mealdeal was farcical. A printed sheet purported to be the thinned-down menu for that day. However, a number of dishes listed there were unavailable. The only pleasing aspect of dining was the service of the staff who did well in trying circumstances. Happily, the staff assured us that they would have jobs under the new regime.
Truly terrible experience.
The room was 28 degrees when we arrived which made us feel very uncomfortable. I asked if there were any cooler rooms as we were leaving for the evening but I was told that there wasn't, instead we were given an extra fan.
To make things worse, the extractor fan I the bathroom was broken and after a shower the steam had nowhere to go and made the rest of the room feel extremely humid.
I expected that the room would have cooled significantly when we arrived back at 11:30 pm. Instead, the room was 29.5 degrees! This made sleeping very difficult and uncomfortable. Needless to say, we did not get a good nights sleep.
On checking out, we were told by an individual that this particular wing of the hotel is an extension to the original building and always gets hot and is hotter than the rest of the hotel. They could not believe that we had got through the night with that heat!
On check out I complained about the temperature issues but was told to contact the company to lodge a complaint. The staff member acknowledged that the rooms in that part of the hotel can get very hot.
Premier Inn dismissed my complaint as the website does not advertise that the hotel has air conditioning. My question to them is that if this is a known problem, why has it not been fixed!?
Extremely disappointed with the whole experience, including the complaints process. I would not expect a hotel room to be 29.5 degrees, it would have been cooler to sleep outside!
Shocking!
Lovely staff on reception- always willing to help and will do anything for their customers. Although the hotel is an older one, the cleaning team have the place immaculate. Looking forward to our next visit when we can have a better breakfast inside the hotel instead of Brewers. Nice to be close to the shops behind which is a good perk of the hotel.
A comfortable and clean room. The mattresses was great as was the bedding. It was great that there was a portable fan in the room as the weather was overly warm. The air flow was minimal so the fan was required to be on all night.
Our only disappointment was the restaurant. We found it to be very unclean and needing some improvements to make it more inviting. We couldn't wait to leave the restaurant. Tired and uninviting. Hopefully, the new owners will make the necessary improvements when they take it over. The current establishment is closing on the 31 July.
We opted for the meal deal but were left disappointment by the options available for the meal deal. Sadly, the menu on offer in the room and online did not reflect what was actually on offer in the restaurant. Out of 11 starters on the main menu, only 5 options were available on the meal deal menu. More or less for the mains. I'd suggest this is addressed for all customers having the meal deal option. We were disappointmented to be presented with a shortened menu on are arrival. Considering we had made our choice whilst still in our room, how disappointing not to find our choice was not on this meal deal menu.
Despite the meal deal offer, we won't be taking this option again. Very misleading for what options you have. Staff in the restaurant did not advise/guide as to what you had to pay extra for. Ended up being hit with an additional bill for food. If its not in the meal deal then you should say so.
The quality of food , more so the evening meal was not as expected. However, the breakfast menu was just fine.
Overall, great accommodation only to be disappointment by the restaurant experience.
We've used this hotel 4 times over the last 3 years, whilst visiting our daughter at university or helping her move in and out of accommodation! The staff are always friendly and we have enjoyed the facilities, ease of parking and the fact it is so close to Durham centre. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have everything that you need. This year however, we experienced for the first time the bedroom during a warm summer and the room became very hot and there is no way to ventilate it as the single window barely opens. There is no air conditioning. So we started at 25 degrees which became almost 30 degrees after 4 nights. The staff were very understanding and gave us an extra desk fan, but it didn't really help in all honesty as there is no ventilation in the room. I even got up in the night and splashed myself with water to try and cool myself down. We do recommend this Premier Inn, so long as the weather isn't too warm - air conditioning or at the very least, enabling guests to ventilate the bedroom better must become a priority for the managers...
