First the good bit. Checked in by a friendly member of staff. Our room was spotlessly clean and spacious as was the bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. Booked meal deals so ate in the restaurant on the first night. The service was great - much better than our previous stay here and the food was really good. My steak was cooked to perfection! Staff worked hard to achieve this. Breakfast the next morning was also excellent. Plenty of choice and food hot. We were booked in for another night but unfortunately because the hotel put up notices to say that the restaurant would be closed that evening and not wanting to venture out in the bad weather or have a takeaway in our room ( can't think of anything worse!) we decided to cut our losses and go back home. It seems that this hotel frequently closes the restaurant at the drop of a hat not thinking of its customers. I suspect it's to do with the chef as there only seems to be 1 of them. So even when you've booked meal deals you are not guaranteed a meal, which is appalling! It's such a shame as the staff are friendly and hard working but the meal situation really does need sorting out by Premier Inn.
Our 16th night in various different premier inns this year. A few times, we have checked in an hour or so early with no issue. Today we had two rooms booked, we tried to check in 40 mins before 3pm and were told one room is ready which was fine as we just wanted to drop our luggage and go off to the function we were attending. However, in order to do that we were told it would cost us a £15 early check in fee. We refused that and went back at 3pm. After the 6 people in front of us had checked in, we were told that one room was ready [no surprise there] but the second one wasn’t . So please can I have my £15 back for the room not being available at check in time ???? No of course not…..I realise that. Premier inn you have become the ryanair version of the hotel world……. Rip people off at every opportunity. Having used your hotels for years, we will now no longer be using them at all and will switch to the Hilton group.
On top of all that, this hotel is dated, the carpets are worn, the rooms grubby , bathrooms shabby and the outside areas very dirty.
Lovely hotel , great staff and spotless cleaning comfortable premier plus room ! Only spoilt by greedy guests at buffet breakfast piling up their plates full of cooked breakfast items and later I saw good food left on their tables to waste as they walked away - I had to make do with 1 sausage 1 bacon rasher and the last fried egg with a crust of toast - not like the greedy couple in front of me that had three sausages each , 3 fried eggs each, 3 bacon rashers and literally cleared the lot - as I said later to leave much of their greed to waste - but this was not the hotels fault - I think buffet breakfasts need reviewing - they would save enough on waste food to pay 2 table servers and do table service.
Stayed at the premier Inn at Pickering on the 13th November for 3 nights. We did self check in because the reception was busy with other guests. We put our car registration into the tablet & this weekend have received 2 parking fines from Horizon parking claiming we have breached premier inn terms & conditions. The fine is for £57 per night.
How can this be when they advertise free parking.Tried ringing Pickering branch but no one there.
Clean and comfortable room, good choice of food for breakfast and evening meal. Staff are very friendly and welcoming will definitely stay here again.
Good base for visiting York and the north Yorkshire coast.
Stayed at this newish Premier Inn after a family trip out to celebrate my father's birthday. Eventually a staff member came to check us in as elderly parents dont like using computerised system. The girl was pleasant but sat with her foot up on the chair the whole time. Stayed in room 105 and the bed base creaked all night when I turned over and kept waking me up. The windows don't open so I kept the air conditioning on all night, which is noisy and has a very bright light on the panel! When I complained that I hadn't slept very well the next morning, the man on reception didn't seem bothered - despite the premier inn, good night promise and told me to complain on the website. I did this last week and have heard nothing back. Not very good for a Premier and at over £200 for 2 rooms for 1 night not even very cheap!
The good:
Good location, friendly and helpful check-in staff.
The bad:
Evidence of long-term damp and rot in the bathroom. Dirty towel. Lots of noise from corridor due to room layout.
Breakfast was a shambles - only one member of staff on duty and they were absent from the restaurant for most of the time. Kitchen ran out of some foods for the cooked breakfast buffet and informed us "we won't be cooking as we don't have any". Granola tub was mostly the residue from the bottom of a packet.
The room was very clean and a comfortable king size bed. Very quiet. Rather complicated electronic Check-in. Took a little time for staff member to appear. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice. Wi-fi none existant in room only works in reception.
Not our first stay here and the Premier Plus room was just as good. Highly recommended. Breakfast excellent as usual but extremely disappointe with the restaurant. First night we waited 55 minutes from ordering food to its' arrival. Simply not acceptable. Due to severe snow in the Pickering area we planned to eat in the hotel on our second night too - only to be advised at breakfast that the restaurant would not be open that evening. Distributed throughout the hotel on most walls there are menus and pictures of dishes from the menus. It is extremely unhelpful for guests to be subjected to these situations. Either you have a restaurant or you don't.
We spend our anniversary either in Perth or Dundee and do chill out and get some Christmas shopping.
We are the type of couple that when we are leaving any accommodation we place the towel in the bath and we strip the bed to help the people who service the room a little as they have a really busy job.
Well on this occasion my wife and i were horrified when we removed the quilt cover and seen what we had been sleeping under - the quilt was disgusting and stained, and there was no way that whoever made the bed up never seen this. we were almost sick looking at it.
There was nobody at the check out desk when we left but i did call reservations the following day, i was sent an e-mail and asked to send a photo, then i was told that i would be refunded the maximum of £41 - what a disgusting gesture to suggest - Ooops we are sorry you were sleeping in such a disgusting bed and we think that is worth £41, absolutely disgusting attitude from Premier inn, we should have been refunded the full amount or given two free nights at a premier inn of our choice.
I thought i would write this just so we all know what we are worth to Premier Inn

Good hotel. Rooms are nice, spacious, and comfortable bed. Bathroom good too. Our room had a lovely view of the golf course. Hotel layout is a bit odd so you could have a fair bit of a walk and quite a few steps to your room, so if this is an issue definitely let the hotel know before you arrive so they can allocate you a room closer to the reception. Rooms do not have air conditioning, but the windows do open ever so slightly, and they preemptively provided a fan. There’s a golf course, tap room, and a Beefeater on site too. Car parking available, make sure to log into the car park iPad in the reception. Overall, stay was fantastic. 1 star lost due to weird interaction I had with staff member on reception. Asked reception to have my room serviced as I was staying more than one night, as directed by signage, but said there was no need to replace the towels. The lady behind the desk just responded “well what do you want them to do then?” Thought it was not only a bit of a rude response, but also just a bit awkward that I then needed to explain how to service a room. Other than that though, good!
Good location, comfy bed and spacious room. Room was clean overall however there was a clump of hair in the bath and the plughole was totally clogged with hair - yuk. The breakfast was not worth the money with cheap, poor quality food and not much choice. Plenty of nice cafes and restaurants nearby instead so save your money
Stayed for a long weekend, and had a lovely relaxing time. Room spotlessly clean, staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and had dinner first night which was great too. Would definitely recommend a stay there. Perfect location
ticked all our books..perfect location we traveling from this location and Scarborough Robin hood bay.. and of course all the beautiful village around Pickering
Mum and I came down to Perth for a concert and our stay at the Premier Inn was amazing they have 2 check in machines and you have to scan the QR code to check yourself in. The room was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was also lovely you can have as much as you like. Would definitely stay again.
Great location on the edge of Pickering but an easy walk into town. Good jumping off point for going to Scarborough, Whitby and other nearby towns. Food was excellent as always.
I finished work and I traveled 3 hours to the Pickering Premier Inn arriving around 7pm , I self checked in my wife & I and immediately went to the restaurant where I was informed by who I presume was a staff member (not in uniform) that they only had one chef and because I had not pre-booked we would have to go somewhere else to eat!!!! Just RUBBISH. I thought this was a hotel and we as traveling customers expect more!
Nice hotel helpful staff good evening meal and breakfast. So close to shopping theatre and concert hall. Definitely recommend
Upon pulling into the carpark of the Pickering Premier Inn, the place appears totally unkempt and overgrown. However, once you get inside, it's quite tidy.
Unfortunately, it was a bit like the Mary Celeste. There was no sign of any staff members whatsoever, just a couple of 'self check-in' kiosks. After a long drive, and with two tired kids in tow, I'd much rather have just been checked in with a member of staff.
Once we got comfortable in our family room, which was clean enough and quite spacious, (but has no drawers, so you've no choice but to live out of your suitcase), we decided to head downstairs to the restaurant for a meal, especially looking forward to it, as there was a poster in the lobby area advertising that kids eat for free during half term. There were barely any tables occupied, yet we were denied entry, as we hadn't pre-booked and the restaurant was apparently fully booked. Since when do you have to pre-book meals at a hotel chain such as this?!? Instead, we were given a list of local takeaways and ended up all having to sit on our beds, eating fish and chips. When I went to collect the fish and chips, approximately an hour later, the restaurant was still empty. This really wasn't how we were expecting to start our stay in Pickering!
The next morning I asked about getting a table for that evening. They asked if I'd pre-booked a meal deal. As the answer was no, we couldn't have a table, though they offered to book us in for the following day, should I wish. Whilst walking through the lobby area, I heard other people on the phone, ordering takeaway, so it's clearly a major issue at this hotel.
For anybody who does stay here, which I won't be doing again, take a five minute drive out to Spencers Bar and Grill. They're friendly, welcoming and offer great meals at a decent price.
I don't know if it's the same at all Premier Inns now, but at this one it feels that they're trying to operate a major hotel using staffing numbers from a small B&B. This comment isn't meant to come across negatively towards the staff that I dealt with, as they generally appeared to be overworked.
I have stated here on numerous occasions, hotel itself is clean. You know what you are getting with Premier inn however I was met with surly staff. As a lone female traveller I do not expect to be nearly turned away from the restaurant as 'they were busy'. There was no kitchen activity at all whilst I waiting 30 mins for them to take my food order. I would be now reluctant to stay here again as I do not want to have to search at night whilst working away on babies for something to eat. Staff looked bored & not interested.
