Stayed here for one night with my husband at the end of November. The hotel itself is nice and the staff were friendly. We were allocated room 208. As soon as we got out of the lift we noticed a very stale smell. Our room, didn’t smell nice at all. Very stale and damp smelling. The room itself was clean but the smell was unpleasant. The windows do not open at all so the air is a stagnant air conditioning smell. I wanted to complain but my husband said we would hardly be in the room, so we didn’t. We had some lovely cocktails before dinner which were 2 for 1, very good value. Our evening meal was nice and tasty. Unfortunately breakfast, although replenished quickly was swimming in grease, in particular the eggs, mushrooms and bacon which was a shame. We wouldn’t stay here again but would try one of the other Premier Inns in Derby next time.
27th November 2025, at your Derby Cathedral Quarter hotel.
From the outset, the experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, my wives and I had to wait almost five minutes to be seated, despite the restaurant being quiet and no staff visible when we entered from the street. Eventually, we were served by Suzanne, but the issues continued throughout our visit.
• After paying, we found only two tables in use, yet when attempting to start our breakfast, the coffee machine displayed a “call staff” alert. This caused further delays, and when I finally managed to resolve it, the coffee tasted weak, unpleasant, and nothing like the Costa standard I am accustomed to at Premier breakfasts.
• Basic items were missing: no small side plates, no malted bread, and no croissants. At this point, I felt more like I was working at Premier Inn than being served as a guest.
• The cooked breakfast itself was poor in quality and presentation. The beans were dry and crushed over the hash browns, which were hard as rock. The eggs had clearly been sitting for so long they would have been better boiled. I had wanted poached eggs, but again, no staff were available to assist.
Overall, the service was inadequate, the food substandard, and the entire experience fell far below the standards I expect from Premier Inn. Without doubt, this was the worst breakfast I have ever had at one of your hotels
I stayed for 2 x nights early in November to see friends in the local area.
I’ve stayed here a few times and the experience is usually good and typical for a Premier Inn. It is located within walking distance of the city centre and has a relationship with a multi-storey car park about 10 minutes away. There is a car park right next to the hotel that is not affiliated and I have not parked there.
The first night (Friday) was uneventful and I ate in the restaurant on site which was nice.
The second night was heavily disrupted due to a guest repeatedly setting off the fire alarm at around 01:30 on the Sunday early hours. This caused a full evacuation in the freezing cold only to observe the guest in question complaining about the fire assembly point and being violent with staff whilst the guests watched on. This went on for about 20 minutes until the police arrived, while we all had to wait outside in the cold.
I was sure that Premier Inn would see this as a disruptive night sleep and the staff agreed when I raised the issue at the time but asked me to visit reception in the morning as they were giving statements to the police. I finally got to sleep at 3am and upon checkout was given a card to request my refund. (Un)surprisingly Premier Inn refused to honour this when I asked so I was left with a disrupted night sleep and a sour taste of the whole experience.
Love staying here . The rooms have always been perfect , the staff friendly and professional , and breakfast and the evening meal were great . Nice bars and restaurants nearby if you want to venture out and plenty of shops and a good shopping centre . Casino also nearby
Looking forward to returning
Great location for all City centre has to offer but obviously pay premium for that
Parking was awkward there is an unloading bay outside but secure parking is about 10 minute walk away but the hotel offers a discount there is parking adjoining the hotel but is private company and not secure
But as usual a comfortable stay
I was obviously dubious about going anywhere that lennyHenry promotes, though the room was actually ok, the wifi was pretty poor but I won’t be using Premier inns again as, until I arrived I didn’t realise, the check in time is 3pm, far too inconvenient
It is a very good hotel, priced right, clean, warm and central to Derby with friendly staff. We have been staying there since it opened and will continue in the future.
Had an excellent stay at the premiere inn and would definitely recommend to others and plan to return for any future trips to Derby. Staff were excellent, friendly, accommodating and welcoming.
Big thank you to Steph , Kayleigh and the handsome guy- sorry don’t remember the name- for hosting us last night. Food was really good and well presented. Lovely atmosphere and very clean restaurant.
Really recommend.
Stopped in this hotel for one night for a business training course. Excellent hotel, easy check in process with approachable staff (Lad with braids) didn't get your name sorry. Nice clean room. Walking distance for shops. Phatbuns is a great takeaway if you fancy a burger! Breakfast was great and very tasty. Would certainly book again if in the area.
Usual standard of cleanliness and nice quiet comfortable room.
This was just a one night stopover before we joined a group holiday in the area.
The new menu (Thyme) was a bonus and most definitely an improvement on the usual fodder on offer in the past
The friendly staff member who was on duty to check me and my business associates in was extremely cheerful. It was around 7PM in the evening and quite late but still found time to have a human conversation which brought some normality into a crazy world. Credit to them. Hotel as standard and was clean to a degree
Hotel is perfect for visiting Derby..Very central to everything... Beautiful Cathedral across the road,,and many restaurants and bars within easy walking distance
We stayed one night at Cathedral. The facilities were very basic of course being a budget hotel. The breakfast was basic however the noteworthy thing was these 2 lovely women(staff) attending us for breakfast. It was Friday morning, summer holidays , pretty packed up morning, slow food coming out of kitchen. Aggie & Lorraine tirelessly attended everyone with patience & politeness even in this pressured time. My son was ill they ensure I get a take-away breakfast for him. Breakfast time they were understaff so definitely need to pump up staff members at the most popular time of the day i.e breakfast.
Good example of a Premier Inn, one of the better ones I’ve stayed in. Great location if you’re going to Vaillant Live for a show.
2 car parks within 2-3 minutes walking distance.
Rooms clean and comfortable, staff friendly and a very good breakfast choice.
Excellent customer service.... Leighton was very friendly with a lovely smile..... very helpful indeed.
Thank you 😊
Lovely hotel well situated in the town centre. It is approx 10 to 15 minutes walk from the railway station.
The staff on arrival were extremely courteous and helpful. In the evening the staff wee down on numbers, and were kept exceptionally busy, but all the while courteous.
The food in the evening was fantastic.
The bedroom was very clean and the beds comfy slept really well.
I love premier inn, you know what you're getting and it delivers. Comfortable, quiet room, friendly staff. If you're in Derby the Cathedral City property is lovely (its also air conditioned!)
Lorraine was lovely and doesn’t keep you waiting long, attitude is on point, and was great to be welcomed in to, asset to the team for sure, thank you lorraine!
Would have been a 5, but, we felt that whilst the wetroom was very good, considering it was an accessability room the bed just appeared to be just the normal bed and low. People with reduced mobility also tend to have trouble getting off and on the bed and tend to need a higher bed. Otherwise our stay here was excellent
