Areia Boutique Hotel - Puerto Morelos

Certainly not a boutique hotel. We’ve been welcomed by the most unmotivated person ever. This guy didn’t even bother to look at us, his mobile phone was more interesting. Extremely respect less and rude ti treat guests like that ! The room was standard at most, cleaning was done to a bare minimum only. There was still sand everywhere. The rooftop bar was closed and the terrace itself was not very welcoming, you’re better at the beach.
Looking to the shuttle service they promote? The employee at the reception asks you to make an inquiry via the booking app they can’t help you at all. It took them over a day to reply and then they send us pricing for a taxi from Cancun airport to the hotel (65 USD btw) which was not what we wanted. We had to go to the airport. Basically the shuttle service is non existing they offer you one of those taxis of the airport mafia. Take a normal taxi, they charged us 600 pesos only for the ride to the airport.

Despite being advertised as open from 3 pm every day, the pool bar was closed 3 of the 5 days we were there (one of those was due to the rainstorm).

Rien parfait à l’hotel. Il faut absolument éviter le restaurant situé face à l’hotel : John Grey, ils se veulent chic, si vous ne consommez pas assez le serveur est limite grossier. Attention au moment de payer le serveur A COMPTÉ 100% de pourboire!! Et la pizza au fromage de chèvre c’est une petite galette style tortilla de 12 cm de diamètre avec du fromage kiri écrasé dessus ah oui quand même un peu de persil. A fuir !

Pool was dirty

The pool was missing tiles and lacked regular cleaning. There is no manager on duty, just someone to check you in and out and deal with fix it requests. We booked two rooms for 10 days, but needed to adjust the stay on the second room to 7 days at check in but were forced to pay the entire original booking to check in. Booking.com blamed the hotel, the hotel blamed Booking.com so we were never refunded for the unused days on the second room. The noise from the street bands was bad some nights. The rooms only had two electrical outlets -- one between the beds and one in the bathroom. Clothing storage was a bit lacking without any drawers; we kept a lot of our clothes in our suitcases.

There is some sound coming from a main street bar on some evenings, we ended up switching a room to the other side of the building to avoid the noise in the evening. The staff was wonderfully accommodating and understanding.

The room we were given was NOT AT ALL the rooms showed on the hotel website or Booking.com. We paid for a King Deluxe room, but what we received was anything but. We were on the first floor overlooking the street and parking. There was only 1/2 of a closet, no shelves, and plastic porch furniture, The only thing they got right was the size of the room, which was VERY small. We contacted Booking.com, who followed up with the hotel. A manager named "David", who neither on-site, nor noted by the hotel staff as anyone they had ever heard of, told Booking.com that not only did we get the room we requested, but that that it was an "upgrade" from the room we paid for. This is impossible to fathom, as our room was totally at the bottom of the line. Whomever was managing the hotel, and from wherever they were managing it, refused to acknowledge it. Hotel staff could not provide us with the name of any manager nor contact information for anyone else. We were given an email for reviews, which is exactly what we are doing.
