We did like our apartment and layout… well stocked except we had to request toilet paper. Although staff text us each day, we were not given code on arrival to get in and had difficulty contacting them ( we had go through Expedia to get support). La Perla is across the street and not safe at night for sure. Gunshots on our street ( night 2) and police raid at 5 am -10 am on night 5 (helicopters, police boats, local police, national guard) that resulted into a street arrest of 5 people and news crews running down the street. Not suitable for single females or solo travellers or family with kids. Front door lock is not very secure. Aside from this, the view is very pretty, easy walk to all sites and nearby restaurants and easy walking through Old San Juan. We hope that as improvements in area are made, this would become a safer place to stay.
The view was amazing! Location was perfect, we were near everything including restaurants, bars and historical sites.
Given the location in old town we expected the rooms to suffer from street noise, but the lack of anything but shutters to cover the windows (no glass windows) made this place even noisier. The shutters always needed to be closed and AC on which makes the apartment dark and noisy, not relaxing. When it rained, the courtyard side shutters leaked and large pools of water formed on the already slippery floors. The management company sent me 13 (!!!) texts within 48 hours of our arrival, mostly asking for all our credit card info and informing us we could not check in before 3 pm. We waited at a nearby bar for the 3 pm text telling us the code but Radio silence. I finally got a hold of the management company and they said my credit card did not go through, even though the day before they had said everything was fine and the credit card had just worked at the local restaurant. Turns out they either entered in the wrong number or they do not take AmEx, not clear which. so after giving them another credit card we were finally able to get in. We then got another deluge of texts over our 2 day stay reminding us we had to check out by 11 am, and, oh yeah, by the way could one of their staff drop by and check on storage? And oh yeah, if we wanted a late checkout we could pay $50 more. Given the $375 a night price this all seemed way too much of a hassle and money grab to be a relaxing stay.
Property was filthy upon arrival. Very old property. Updates needed. Zero hot water - ever.
Cool
The highlight of this property was the spectacular view from waterfront rooftop patio. However, everything else was subpar and far below basic expectations. For example, the refrigerator did not work and had a sign on it that read, “Temporarily unavailable” which was extremely disappointing considering the location. Also, the failed to provide toilet paper(!) . In the kitchen, they have spoons, no forks and a coffee maker with filters but no coffee. Lastly, while it’s an old building and grace is given considering, the windows leak when it rains and creates large puddles of water along the east edge of the wall. Since we did not have a mop, we used a small towel as an attempt to mitigate the slip hazard. Finally, we swept before leaving to find that behind and under the bed appears to not have been swept or mopped for a very long time. I would have reached out to the management company, however, my first message to them about the toilet paper and fridge was responded to by, “Sorry about the inconvenience”… that’s it. In summary, I would love to stay in this area again, however, I will find a property with better management and customer service.
Nice street with water views. Very basic accommodations. Overpriced.
That place is horrible , one towel per person for 4 days , the humidity horrible , liking water in the room and I don’t know from where, felt twice in bedroom
We had the fourth floor unit. Lots of sag, conte, winding stairs, but well worth the patio view over the ocean.
Terrible place to stay! ad showed a beautiful room it was not the same room this room was dirty no water pressure nor hot water no body wash missing towel rack bedding blanket was old only 2 pillows sofa had stains cabinets were disgusting n dish rack was mold on it tv worked but couldn't get channels
The ceckin process requires several steps, forms etc thatviolates my privacy rights
The place was clean, comfortable and modern with a little “old world” charm. The exposed brink, private interior courtyard with fountain and Spainish balconies… So cute! The bed was comfortable. The host was easy to communicate with. We recommend taking some time to walk around Old San Juan – it's worth exploring.
Great access to Old San Juan. Having a private roof deck with ocean views was a highlight. I lost my check-in instructions and the host helped me resolve it quickly. I would recommend a stay here.
Parking only thing l can complain.
