Food, location, service.

It was so quiet and chilled and the food was excellent. The staff were really friendly as were the other guests….. slept like a log, glorious views from our cabin and there was plenty to do (if u wanted to)…, We did a lovely boat trip around the other islands and a fantastic bike mountain bike ride thru rural Rwanda. We even stopped at a school to meet the children and see them in their classrooms…

Ruhondo island retreat was fantastic - both in terms of natural beauty and as a gateway to many local community experiences around lake Ruhondo. Jean was amazing and led us on a hike and community visit - he shared awesome info about the area where he was born. The tents were awesome - with great hot water showers. The food was also excellent, the chef Elias did a great job! I would recommend visiting lake Ruhondo , and the retreat, as an alternative to lake Kivu.

What a wonderful place to stay! Once you have managed to find your way through the hills (with the helpful guidance of the manager) you will be rewarded with stunning views on the surrounding nature and a serene environment. If you are travelling with elderly people, accessibility might become a challenge due to the many steps up the island, but staff will go out of their way to help you with this as well. We had a wonderful time. Nice chats by the fireplace, with the lovely owners and other guests, delicious breakfast and dinners and warm roasted peanuts in the afternoon. The tents are cosy and super comfortable, yet still adventurous enough to make for a close-to-nature experience. You can tell that a lot of heart and ideas were invested when designing the grounds. We enjoyed the boat trip on the lake so much. When we left, it was like leaving family. We will definitely return and reminisce about it for a long time to come.

I really loved my stay on the island! I stayed for 3 days and it was nice and relaxing. Amazingly enough, I was the only guest the entire time I was there! The owners were wonderful and they went out of their way to make me feel welcome and treated me like family. Big shout out to my main man Jean, the manager! He went above and beyond to make sure I had a memorable stay and is a great friend! The food, service and off island experiences were fantastic (Jean is an excellent tour guide and has tons of incredible side trips for you!) The island itself is beautiful and full of life. If you want to have a unique experience in nature, yet enjoy the luxury and comfort of home, then this is the perfect place for you! For me this was the experience of a lifetime! Book yourself a few days at very least, you won’t regret it!

Alphonsine and Alexis are very friendly and interesting owners sharing their little paradise. Tents are a perfect mix between adventure and luxury providing hot enclosed shower, comfortable beds with mosquitoes nests and a private hidden terrace to chill. Surroundings are peaceful and authentic. Jean d'Amour tours and hikes are very professionnaly driven and remain one of our best expérience in whole Rwanda. Cant recommend this place enough !

We drove to Ruhondo from Kigali for a weekend in mid-May. We took a wrong turn on the way, and our hosts at the retreat were so helpful directing us in.

That level of superb hospitality continued throughout our entire visit. It’s a short boat ride to the island, but the retreat feels like a faraway paradise. You are immersed in the natural beauty of the island, surrounded by lush vegetation and peaceful blue waters.

We loved exploring the island and taking a boat tour of the lake. I received an excellent massage in a lovely outdoor setting by the water. My favorite activity was relaxing on the terrace, snacking on warm peanuts and enjoying magnificent views of volcanic peaks in the distance.

This is the perfect place to take morning coffee, read a book, or chat with other guests and our lovely hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and our cabin was clean and comfortable. We slept deeply at night.

Our only regret was not staying a few extra dayss!

I and my Husband spent 1 night at Ruhondo Island retreat,The tented room with a jungle view is lovely. Clean, cool green roofs, a mix of tradition and modern styles—I really loved it. The other facilities, such as wifi and the breakfast room, were all first-class.

The location—OMG, can you get how great the island hotel is for full relaxation and being quietly safe? PERFECT.
Excellent service. From the moment we arrived at the parking lot and got a boat, the staff was extremely courteous. They also helped us to book a good tour hike Mount.Bisoke in Volcanoes National Park with their professional tour guide.

The food was very good and sumptuous.Other attractions: The hotel has a free wifi connection. They also have a greenery garden designed for reading books with scenery from nature and Lake Ruhondo.The rest... well, Musanze is a beautiful city with so much to see and do, and this hotel just complements and completes a wonderful experience.

Ruhondo Island Retreat is a perfect place to stay in Musanze,Rwanda. It is close to the Volcanoes National Park and the Musanze city. The room was veryyyy pleasant, it was cozy and clean. Breakfast was excellent and incredibly varied. The hotel team has always been friendly, and helpful. I couldn't imagined i stayed in Island with exceptional breathtaking view from the lake, and sweet bird sounds in the morning and evening. That impressed me the most. No matter what time of day or night, you could turn to them with all your concerns. On my next stays, I and my wife,..will definitely check into Ruhondo Island Retreat, again for my Trekking Mountain Gorillas Tours.
