Check in was easy. Room lovely great new bathroom nice tiles bed comfortable. Breakfast was extra at £6.75 but worth it. New landlords have done a great job updating the George, looking forward to our next visit. Great centre location exploring Kinder Scout and Twenty Trees.
This wee pub / hotel was great clean tidy good food, staff was helpful and friendly, rooms was good too, would I stay again yes, great value for money,
We loved our stay at the George. Jos and Lindsay are lovely and run a very nice business. We had two rooms, wife and I and Daughter and Partner. We arrived soaking wet after a walk on Mam Tor. Checked in, had a laugh with the owners, parking was easy, rooms are excellent and clean, food good, beers good. Being born and raised in Derbyshire and an out doors person who spent years in the peaks before heading to that ‘great land down under’, I had somehow missed Hayfield. Lovely village and we enjoyed a clear day hiking after the rain, onto the moors straight from Hayfield. A great stay at the George was enjoyed and thanks Jos and Lindsay for your guidance on where to go.
Parking was easy, staff were very friendly! Only issue was, it seems like the radiator doesn’t work in room 1? It was quite cold all night. Bed mattress could be more comfortable too. It was a lovely place though and very cute town.
Nice old building
Lovely ancient pub in this Pennine village. Staff could not have been more helpful. Property in good condition (the sloping floors are just a mark of the age). Food standard pub fare, but well presented.
Lovely room, with a very nice bathroom. The hotel was well located within a 2 min walk from the centre of town which made an evening walk around the old sights very enjoyable. The parking was off site but very close by. The restaurant and bar were very nice. An open area for making the home made pizza was lovely and the breakfast was also very nice. The morning staff that served us at breakfast were very friendly and helpful even making a special sausage for our dog as a treat ! Highly recommended and great value for money !
Wonderful and relaxing stay at The George Hayfield. We had the family room which was clean and comfortable for a Mum, Dad and x2 teenage girls. Evening meal and breakfast was perfect, good value for money. The two owners (and staff) very friendly and attentive. We’ll be back for sure.
Happy to stay here again, staff were absolutely lovely
The beds were comfortable, the managers were very friendly and the village is lovely. It's not a fancy place, and breakfast options are simple English breakfast fare, but overall this is a gem of a place if you're hiking or exploring Peak District, especially if you need parking. We appreciated the family room option with a bunk bed for the kids and double for the adults. Note, this is not a good option for persons with mobility issues (stairs).
Great people, nice food and service, shower blocked by hair mass I sorted, room good, bed comfy, slightly dated decor but owners are new and dealing with decor. Overall a good stay.would go back happily.
The ladies who are running the hotel/pub so lovely - nothing is too much trouble - only been there 5 mths and they have their work cut out with the property and building it up again as a pub - all staff lovely , dog friendly - great location
The place was lovely. The staff were so friendly, they accommodate a few special requests of mine for food. I ate dinner there every night. The food was excellent, with lots of options for vegan meals. The room was clean and well presented. Overall, I enjoyed the stay more than I was anticipating. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone to stay at George’s.
We just had a fabulous 2 night stay at the George in family room 9. The 2 new lovely lady managers who have only been in 4 months know what they are doing and they know the old place just need some TLC. Breakfast choice was plentiful and very well presented. A Fan was provided on request as it was extremely hot on our weekend. Our room was clean and beds very comfy. Parking is great and easily accessible. Fabulous location for immediate access to the dark and white Peak District. Photos are of the village itself plus the bathroom in room 9 which has a large shower.
The owners and staff are great
