Inside room and beds all good.
Obviously undergoing refurbishment. Buckets catching leaks all over communal areas.
Fire alarm went off during night and fire escapes littered and being used to store building materials (illegal).
Only thing good was the bed was comfortable, but duvet on my bed was a double folded over and put into a single duvet , was far to hot with it on .
On arrival there were buckets for leaks in reception ceiling, bundles of bedding all along the hallway, didnt get the double room that we booked but reception’s reply to it was oh sorry .
No hot water at 5.40 in morning so couldn’t have a shower .
We went the walk along water it brings you to back of hotel which there was 9 rats under rubbish bins
Absolutely nothing.
Avoid this hotel at all costs.
I booked the Muthu Glasgow River Hotel expecting the 4-star standard advertised on Booking.com. What I experienced was completely unacceptable.
The room was dirty, with visible dust, hair on the floor, stains on surfaces, and a persistent unpleasant smell. The view from our room overlooked an area filled with rubbish and bins where we witnessed rodents. On top of that, loud music continued outside until well after midnight, making sleep almost impossible. With no air conditioning and very limited ventilation, the room was uncomfortable and far below the standard that had been advertised.
What makes this experience even worse is how the hotel handled the complaint afterwards.
After I submitted a formal complaint and provided video evidence, the General Manager personally apologised and confirmed in writing that a FULL REFUND had been approved and would be processed within 24–48 hours.
That refund never arrived.
Since then, I have sent multiple follow-up emails over a prolonged period and have been completely ignored. No refund. No explanation. No response. Nothing.
It is one thing for a hotel to provide poor accommodation. It is another thing entirely to acknowledge the failings, promise a full refund in writing, and then simply disappear when it comes time to honour that commitment.
This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, made even worse by the complete lack of professionalism and accountability afterwards. I have never known a business to promise a refund, fail to provide it, and then repeatedly ignore all attempts at contact.
If you value cleanliness, honesty, customer service, and a company that stands by its promises, I would strongly recommend booking elsewhere.

Location and helpful receptionist
Our room key didn't work so had to go back to reception. Once in room, we had no hot water, and only a trickle of cold. There were 2 single beds and we had booked a double. We were given another room, double bed but a stained bath. Mattress, had a dip but it was clean. No bedside lights.
In the morning, the electricity was off in the hall.
There were building materials strewn about outside and several leaks inside the hotel. Finally it may be a matter of taste but the decor was gaudy. It is an example of brutalist architecture and would be great if the inside was done out in a complimentary design.
One member of the catering staff and receptionist were friendly. The hotel and rooms were immaculate.
The other members of staff we spoke to were a bit rude. When asking if the dinner would be served during our event dinner break, we were told no and to go to Morrisons for food, even though dinner was part of our package.
When we went for dinner we were made to feel like we weren't meant to be there, as though we were stealing and had to tell them we had paid for dinner bed and breakfast. There were no staff at the restaurant area to welcome you and tables weren't set for dinner or breakfast.Bar staff who were serving at the event appeared to have had no training which I felt was unfair on them.
Smell of damp hits you when you arrive. The roof has obviously been leaking, full bucket of yellow-ish water at 7.15am on the breakfast room floor was off putting and made us cancel breakfast and eat elsewhere.
No air-conditioning in room so stuffy and took a while for hot water to pull through pipes in shower.
No atmosphere
Close to the river and walks
The aesthetic look of the outside of the building is ugly. There was no bar to get a drink or food, we had to walk 15 minutes to find a shop. Our friends told us the breakfast was awful. The room was nice, bed comfortable. But nobody came to clean and empty the bins. I think the hotel is a work in progress. One of the lifts was dirty. The views outside the hotel and the countryside are beautiful.
Proximity to airport primarily.
Nothing.
staff very pleasant. Spotless.
Buffet could have had more choice at dinner. breakfast was excellent
Room and hotel was very clean and nicely styled. The bed was very comfy and the bath had lots of hot water. The temperature was lovely and warm too. Very friendly and helpful reception staff member.
-The dinner menu was very limited so we went elsewhere.
-There was too much noise from workmen early in the morning - one way to get your guests to check out early (8/8.30am). I was finally looking forward to a lie in. There was also a party of people running about, talking very loudly and slamming doors from about 11pm to 2am.
-The hotel looks very awful from the outside, it's nice and clean but it would look so much more attractive to future guests if the whole of the outside had a paint job, I almost didnt book it based on its external appearance as photos inside can often be misleading.
- I went for a walk along the river and came across a large number of rats when I passed the bins (understandable as you are by the river but it might be worth putting something up to block out the bins (wooden panelling perhaps) to prevent other guests from witnessing them, as others made comments about it putting them off wanting to get their dinner there.. Its hard to get rid of rats so close to the river..
- Nowhere to get coffee or tea downstairs to lounge about and meet friends
- Lounge area not the most welcoming
Good location, friendly staff and nice clean, warm room at a good rate.
