Wonderful staff.Excellent breakfast
Some areas need renovation
Great location and views
Most other things
Best view in Torquay, good staff, and breakfast.
The hotel was once the best in the region is fading and is under-invested.
Too few staff (phone not answered as one person on reception can't do it all)
Paying for parking is ridiculous.
The location
Been many times and still at good has ever
Nothing
Central location and spacious, clean rooms. Bathroom was really nice and new. I had a big balcony with a sea view. Looks like the interior of the hotel has been done recently as its all pukka. The reception rooms downstairs are really spacious and you dont get this in more modern hotels. Staff were friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast is very good quality indeed, plenty of it and you just help yourself. I would stay here again..
Fabulous hotel, staff & location
We really enjoyed our stay, and we'll be back to try the outdoor pool when open
Indoor pool lovely and warm
The sea view was stunning
Next time, we would try to choose a room where the balcony door opens it was a little disappointing to have it there and not use it
It didn't spoil our stay tho
Fabulous location with stunning sea views. Lovely old building with lots of interesting features and large airy spaces. The staff really made the stay. Especially Basha in the restaurant.
It’s dated and in need of upgrading in places. The lighting in the restaurant made it flat and lacking in atmosphere. It wouldn’t have taken much to add a few wall lamps or table lamps. Something to add highlights and low lights. Soft music and candle light type atmosphere or warm & convivial would have been better than the flat, corporate feel. And with those stunning views, good food and such a magnificent building it’s unforgivable to give your customers such a bland experience.
The way the restaurant is run at breakfast time needs seriously looking at. There’s no need for queues of guests having to wait 10-15 mins to get into the dining room when it’s a buffet. One person has to run around at full speed trying to seat every single guest and give them a full disclaimer if they have allergies. Meanwhile the rest of the staff - who seemed plentiful - were moving in slow motion just replenishing food. A bit more effective divisions of labour would help enormously. Giving guests a handout about allergens and labelling all the dishes as to whether they are gluten free or not would save so much time rather than the maitre d having to explain it all. Allow guests to make their own decisions about whether each dish is suitable for their dietary requirements provided you’ve given all the correct information.
There are just two butter pats on each table and so the staff waste a lot of time having to re-stock tables with butter. I’m sure a bit of a time/motion study would make the running of the restaurant at breakfast time a lot more efficient.
Great views and good location
A bit dated
Nothing except location.
Terrible at check in. Shabby furniture, Room clean in parts, dirty in other parts. Terrible bar service. No tea available after 9 pm. Not everybody wants alcohol! Not even a kettle available to oblidge to serve tea at the bar. Awful breakfast, never had a worse tea. Had to wait for plates to be avialble at the breakfast buffet. Must have been some decades ago when this place deserved 4 stars. So sad that a hotel with such excellent position is so run down.
Good staff and good value for money
Good location many original features and clean
The hotel is quite run down and in need of refurbishment
Location, room and bed size
Nil
Got "upgraded" to a family room ,so loads of space, but....
The balcony view
Ease of parking
One radiator, lukewarm, to heat a huge room. Nah, not ever gonna work. They took ages to bring up a very small plug in oil radiator. Just not enough.
Everything just my happy place
Nothing
Amazing location. Lovely building and gardens. Very quiet and peaceful. Great breakfast and evening meal. Really large rooms. Great value for money for the quality offered
North
Huge choice at breakfast. Friendly staff in the bar.
