Old hotel with poor maintenance and service
Pros:

The hotel is very old and poorly maintained. Multiple people, myself included, experienced the water taking anywhere from 15 minutes plus to get hot. The room was not clean when I arrived. The staff genuinely does not seem to care, and they tack on extra hidden fees even after assuring you at check in and check out that there is no balance due. It’s certainly convenient to Penn Station, but your money is better spent elsewhere.

Great stay!
Pros:

Mohammed was absolutely amazing! We came to NYC to celebrate my birthday, and he made the trip even more special. He upgraded our room and got us checked in immediately at 9am — even though check-in isn’t until 4pm. After traveling, that meant everything to us. His kindness and hospitality truly set the tone for our entire stay!

Probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed.
Pros:

Whilst the hotel is in a good location that’s all it really has going for it. We stayed with our 11 year old daughter so we wanted it to be special. Upon check in our room wasn’t ready. Charged $5 per bag to store. Ridiculous.

Returned to check in again. Told room ready. Room was absolutely freezing. Window didn’t shut right therefore ice cold and severe noise. Went down to reception to which I can only describe as one of the most ignorant people I had ever met. Apparently was sending maintenance up but never showed. Had to keep curtains closed to try and block the cold along with towels. We were told we had a view, the view was of a construction site.

The dust and hairs in the bathroom were absolutely vile.

Over the period of our stay we were constantly woke and disturbed by barking dogs. Absolutely baffled why dogs are not on a separate floor or secluded area of the hotel.

There is no welcome feel to the hotel. The door staff don’t open the doors never mind say hello.

No where to have a nice meal or breakfast. The tick tock diner food is horrible and do not recommend. Also charging for a coffee machine which in majority of hotels is a free item for guests.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel. It probably ruined our holiday spending the day out looking to come in and relax and that wasn’t possible.

The entire building needs renovated and a severe deep clean. About a 2 star at most and that is being generous.

BEWARE: Active Fraud Scheme @ New Yorker Hotel
Pros:

The New Yorker is a rancid and fraudulent hotel that I urgently advise travelers to avoid at all costs.

The accommodations are filthy, run-down, and the plywood room doors are too lightweight to feel secure. The dilapidated rooms have peeling pant, soiled light switches, and stained tubs.

Aside from the inhospitable conditions, the New Yorker Hotel is conducting a fraud scheme to extort innocent travelers. They charged me a $500 “smoking fee” when I do not own any smoking or vaping paraphernalia. They claim to have “evidence” of smoke in my room during my stay. I Googled and learned this a common tactic gaining traction among unethical, trashy hotels. They fake “evidence” of smoking in the room in order to charge an exorbitant “cleaning fee” and make extra money.

This hotel is corrupt and they refused to address my credit card dispute against the fraudulent charge, claiming they have confirmatory evidence of smoke during my stay. I DO NOT SMOKE OR VAPE. They screened my emails and calls when I tried to contact them for a conversation.

Either The New Yorker Hotel is purposefully running a fraud scheme, or their smoke “sensors” are completely faulty. Either option is entirely unacceptable and they should be investigated for their casual, predatory practices.

Decent hotel, freezing room
Pros:

Look, the long and short of it is this. If you want high end luxury dont come here. If you want reasonable prices, good staff but dated rooms then expect just that. We stayed in room 3731 and I spent the 1st night plugging gaps in the windows with toilet roll (it was minus 15ish) and the room was FREEZING. Now, I should say my wife requested a room with a view and we absolutely got that. Class in the evenings and mornings. I was going to complain about the freezing room the next day but decided to ramp the air con up to 30 odd degrees and it sort of did the trick. Apart from that and the basic bathrooms which really need finished off better and updated it's a good hotel in a good location and for all the time we spent in it, it did the job. If you've really high standards, this ain't the one for you
