Nice vibe and location
Room service is only for breakfast. One of our rooms was not made-up from the previous occupants. They gave us a credit for room service but see above.
We really liked the ambience throughout the facility and the small details.
No soundproofing from the room next door. People were having a party for hours and could be heard clearly through the adjoining door. Then, they started up again at 6:45 am.
Gorgeous room, very comfortable bed, enchanting fireplace, city views from the patio, and every member of staff was gracious, helpful and professional. All of that in a perfectly central part of downtown to walk and enjoy the many restaurants and sights. I highly recommend!
Wonderful staff, accommodations and food options. We celebrated our 29yr anniversary in style and comfort, thank you Sentinel!
Our stay at The Sentinel was a mix of high expectations and unexpected surprises. We initially looked forward to a room with a jetted tub, as confirmed by the reservation hotline. However, upon arrival, we were disappointed to find that our room did not include this feature.
Room Experience
- Cleanliness: The room was very clean, which is always a plus.
- Towels: Unfortunately, while washing my face before bed, I grabbed a towel that smelled distinctly of seafood, though the others were fine. This was puzzling and a bit off-putting.
- Comfort: The bed was mostly comfortable, and the view from our room was lovely.
Customer Service
After checking in and realizing we didn’t have the jetted tub, we decided to grab coffee down the street, feeling a bit let down. However, upon returning, we were greeted warmly at the front desk. I explained our situation regarding the missing jetted tub, and the representative was incredibly apologetic. She checked for any available rooms with jetted tubs but found none. Instead, she offered us an upgrade to the terrace suite or a $50 credit for room service or the hotel restaurant. Their kindness and willingness to accommodate us were truly commendable.
Dining Experience
We opted for the $50 credit and decided to have breakfast at Jake’s Grill the next morning.
- Breakfast Order: I ordered the traditional Eggs Benedict, and my husband went for steak and eggs, along with a vanilla latte and a Bellini.
- Issues: The steak was cooked medium instead of medium-rare, and while enjoying my Eggs Benedict, I encountered a crunch in my first bite. To my dismay, I discovered several pieces of eggshell in my dish. This was disappointing, especially since I had only eaten half of one of the two Benedicts.
- Response: Our waiter was quick to apologize and consulted with the kitchen and manager. The manager personally came over to apologize and offered to bring me something else, which I declined, preferring to just get my still-missing vanilla latte.
Overall Impressions
Despite the mishaps, the service we received at the hotel and restaurant was good, and we appreciated the staff's efforts to make things right. While our experience at The Sentinel was certainly not flawless, the cleanliness of the room, the accommodating front desk staff, and the restaurant's response to our concerns left a positive impression overall.
If you're considering a stay, perhaps confirm your room details in advance and be prepared for potential dining hiccups, but know that the staff seems dedicated to ensuring a pleasant experience.
The staff was excellent and very warm to me and treated me with kindness and care which made me feel at home. The hotel was clean and had the best amenities.
We had a wonderful stay with exceptional service provided by Johnson and Elmer. The suite we stayed in was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend this fabulous hotel and look forward to staying there again!
Room was immaculate, warm, and inviting. Check-in was seamless, even with the complication of me making the reservation and then my spouse checking in separately, it all worked out. We used the overnight parking lot across the street ($35/24hrs) so we could store/retrieve things from the car as needed during our overnight stay. We were here for a wedding and booked from the block of reserved rooms, so I think the rate was slightly discounted. Overall, it was a great value for such an incredible property and experience.
Wonderful hotel with very delightful staff. Alyson was so very accommodating with our group booking. The room felt cozy & luxurious. The classic style decor was a nice touch.
What I love:
The room - mine has a fireplace. Although there's no view. It was in the corner top floor away from everyone else. You can still hear the transit train but it did not bother me.
The location was perfect. I can walk to Powell books and to some boutiques that carry esoteric labels. Highly recommend Frances May
What I tolerated:
The valet parking was $65 a day AND the wait is long 20 mins - even if you give them notice, if there's no one there to give you your keys - you are stuck waiting
