Hi Everyone,
I have been staying at and reviewing so many hotels in Kyoto since 2025, and this was my first stay with “Stay Sakura.” Here is my honest review, comparing it with other hotels in Kyoto.
In short, the hotel is very clean and the staff are nice, but they are not flexible because they strictly follow their policies.
Positive Points
1. This particular accommodation is very new. I was told it was built around November 2025, so everything is clean and new. You are gonna love it.
2. They use a passcode system instead of key cards.
3. It is only a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station.
4. It is very quiet, but there is no view. The window is completely blocked by the building next door, so there is no sunlight, but this is normal in Japan.

・マットレスが硬くて眠れなかったので、連泊でしたがやむえず、途中でチェックアウトしました。
Negative Points
1. As soon as I entered the reception area, something smelled off. It seemed like a strong body odor, and it was very uncomfortable. When I walked to the second floor where my room was located, the bad smell was there as well. When I opened the door to my room, I realized the smell was coming from inside the room. It took the whole night to clear the odor. I am surprised that no one noticed this and tried to fix it. There was no air purifier installed in the room, which may be one reason.
2. The mattress was extremely firm. I was not able to sleep at all for two nights. I have stayed in many hotels in Kyoto and never had this problem before. Because I started experiencing health issues due to lack of sleep, I decided to check out two days early.
3. Refund denied. I requested a refund for the two unused nights since I checked out early. They politely but firmly denied my request, stating that according to their cancellation policy, they were unable to provide a refund. They strictly follow their policy and showed no intention of offering flexibility or goodwill for the customer.
It is true that this is not a five-star hotel, so perhaps expectations should be adjusted. However, there are many hotels that offer refunds as a gesture of goodwill in situations like this. For that reason, I recommend being cautious when booking with “Stay Sakura.”

The hotel was brand new and in a perfect position to travel around the city.
The room was quite spacious in comparison to other similar solutions and the staff was nice.
It was lovely to find on the room desk a little notebook with suggestions on what to see and where to eat in the nearby area.
There was no washing machine available in the building and we had to ask the staff whether the water provided in the room was free or not because we couldn't find information about it elsewhere.

I like the price and size of the room. I like that it was close to Kyoto station. It was very clean and offered amenities.
I didn’t like the luggage storage when leaving. There were only certain times you can pack your bags up when stopping you luggage after leaving.
La limpieza, wifi, las toallas, las camas, los enchufes estaban cerca de la cama, la lámpara de la mesita de luz era muy bonita. Había pasta dental, cepillo de dientes, nos sirvió para el resto del viaje
La puerta del baño de acrílico semi-transparente, es decir, desde la cama podías ver casi en detalle lo que hacía la persona que estaba dentro del baño, quizás entre pareja/amigos no pasa nada, pero si vas con familia, ya es distinto. El espacio de la pieza no era muy amplio para abrir las valijas con comodidad.
Tuvimos que hacer cambio de habitación para quedarnos un día más y al querer hacer el check out, pero dejar las valijas en la recepción, no había nadie (eran aprox 8:45 am), les tuvimos que dejar escrito en una pizarra que tenían ellos.
