This is a hotel with a difference. The rooms are all individual. The beds are really comfortable with high quality linen. The bar is great and the location is very central with wonderful views
It has been a crazy year and as such, we've not got away anywhere for a holiday in ages. So we decided to just hop in the car, drive down to Brighton and just bumble about for a couple of days just to have gone somewhere that wasn't home.
Picked the Drakes online as it was a decent price, had parking available, was still pretty near everything in town and was also comfortable enough to meet our narrowing standards as we get older! :)
Place was easy to find, we got a warm welcome, were checked in swiftly and shown to our room. Nice size, clean, very modern and was a little quirky as our bathroom was on a split level down some steps in a corner of the room. Bed was decent and comfortable, room was quiet too so no disturbances either.
We paid extra for breakfast, which was a set menu but not a bad choice. There was also no fuss when I asked to swap out my egg on my full English for another rasher of baconsausage. Also, the Strawberry jam for the toast was amazing! So much so, I asked where they got it. "We make it ourselves" was the proud response and I asked if I could perhaps buy some. The nice lady serving said she'd see what she could do.
Next morning at breakfast she presented us with a healthy sized jar of the stuff and told us we could pay for it at check out. It's been a lovely treat for my morning toast at homes a couple times a week since! :)
The breakfast room doubles as a restaurant in the evenings, but we didn't try it out purely because we were trying not to be lazy and getting out and about for dinner. The menu looked quite good and prices weren't terrible either, so might be worth a punt if you do stay here.
On the Sunday when we came to leave, the car failed to start and the guys at reception were great with keeping our slot free so I could get to Halfords in a cab to sort it out (bloody dead battery!). No hasssle.
Would absolutely stay here again if stopping in Brighton. Highly recommend.
Room 10 has been updated since the hotel opened about 15 years ago. The decor is fun. My only whinge would be please put a mini fridge in the room. Putting the milk against the windows does not look good....more like a cheap bedsit place rather than a boutique hotel!!
We thoroughly enjoyed a two night break staying in an excellent room (5) with a great sea view. The ensuite wet room was fine and my partner really enjoyed the large bath in the bay window.
The service was faultless and very friendly.
We ate out and about in Brighton except for the last night when we dined at Dilsk - the integral but independent restaurant. Definitely book a tasting menu there.
Lovely hotel with convenient location and beautiful sea view. All the staff were polite and welcoming.
Everything about this wonderful hotel was perfect for our 2 day stay in Brighton. The fact that I was working in the building next door couldn't have made the location any more convenient!
Decor is lovely and attention-to-detail, second-to-none. Every single one of the staff were pleasant, courteous and efficient. The cocktails bar is a nice bonus. The only reason I'm not going to gush further is that I don't want to make it so over-subscribed it'll be impossible to book next time!
A lovely small boutique hotel right on the sea front with a great bar and super comfy beds. Great cocktails too !
Everything perfect! Location, check in, great host Joanne, room very comfortable and done up beautifully, modern and lots of amenities and little touches, superb breakfast in bed!
Excellent value for a great stay - the room was large with a great bath, very comfortable bed and very clean. The service was friendly and helpful. Really good breakfast which was served in the room.
We had an amazing stay! It was just what we were looking for. Staff were all so friendly. Had an amazing breakfast.
It was an absolutely pleasure to stay at the Drakes Hotel. It was my first time in Brighton. The team was super charming, the hotel location is very nice, not too central and not too far away. Front sea is super pleasant. Room was so cute and so comfortable. Well... I'll be back for sure!
Very warm welcome on arrival from Anthony. No problem securing a parking spot directly outside the hotel.
Stayed 2 nights in the "best room". So glad we did. King size bed was extremely comfy and so were the pillows. 2 nights of quality sleep and rest.
The view from the room is amazing. You won't be disappointed. It was quute windy when we were there and you could hear the crashing waves.
The bathroom is a walk in wet room and the shower is incredible. Loved it. So much better than an ordinary shower room or having to stand in a bath. Wish more hotels would have wet rooms.
Breakfast was delicious on both mornings. Service impeccable. Thank you Lucy.
Thank you also to Joanne and Richard. Loved our chats and appreciated your local tips.
Although we didn't get to meet Jessica, feel we should also say thank you to you for introducing us to your shower soap range. Smells amazing so had to buy a few to take home with us.
Finally, we did enjoy the 10 course dinner and paired wines in the restaurant downstairs. I have reviewed that separately under the restaurant name Dilsk. Once again 5 stars all the way.
Next time you are in Brighton, choose this hotel and restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Can't wait to go back!
We stayed in a room at the top and it was beautifully decorated with the most comfortable bed we've ever stayed in. The team made us feel really welcome and I would highly recommend this hotel.
Lovely staff and hotel all made are stay in Brighton enjoyable.
The room we had beautiful decor and everything you needed.
My third time staying at Drakes, and it was another wonderful experience. Staff are friendly and welcoming, sea view rooms are stunning, had a free standing bath which was fab! The breakfasts are very good too. Will be staying again.
We have used Drakes before. It's boutique, so some nice original architecture and fittings outside and in. But some quirks eg no lift, so you have to be pretty fit if you are on the upper floors. But the views are fab, the food is good and the staff are great. Small issues with maintenance (some lights in bathroom not working) and with cleanliness (large tea / coffee stain on carpet) in our room but overall very comfortable and will stay again,
Hotel was only about a 10 minute walk away from The Brighton Centre which is why we stayed here. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. However, room 6 does not have a city view. It does not have any view!!!
Great stay, easy check in, room adequate for a short stay all exceptionally clean!
Good breakfast served by a young lady that likes to sing along to radio!
Great place to go, sea facing, walking distance to all the major attraction and restaurant. If you like small and charming hotels a good place to go. Nicely decorated, clean, friendly and super helpful staff.
The view from the room was fantastic. The noise from the road wasn’t great. Our room had a lovely deep bath which we couldn’t use. There was a wet room in the toilet with slight doors so little privacy. If you used the shower the toilet paper got wet. The luxury soap did smell amazing.
