We absolutely loved our stay at the Carlton Arms. If you’re looking for a polished, cookie-cutter hotel with all the usual amenities, this probably isn’t your place—but if you want somewhere unique, full of character, affordable, and genuinely memorable, it’s fantastic.

The location was excellent. We were able to walk to so much, and having the subway nearby made getting all over Manhattan incredibly easy. After several very long sightseeing days, it was wonderful to have a convenient home base that didn’t require another complicated trip just to get back to our room.

The hotel itself is an experience. Every hallway, stairwell, and room is covered in art, and there’s something new to notice every time you walk through. It feels quirky, creative, a little eccentric, and completely unlike anywhere else we could have stayed. My 12-year-old and I had so much fun exploring it.

Our room was simple but comfortable, and having our own private bathroom was absolutely worth it. This is an older building, so you should come expecting quirks rather than luxury, but everything we actually needed was there. Most importantly, we felt comfortable and safe throughout our stay.

The staff were also incredibly kind and welcoming. There’s a warmth to the Carlton Arms that you just don’t get from a big chain hotel.

For the price, especially in Manhattan, I thought the value was outstanding. We spent our days exploring New York rather than hanging around a hotel, so I would much rather have a clean, comfortable, interesting place in a great location and spend the rest of the travel budget actually experiencing the city.

I would absolutely stay here again. In fact, after this trip, I think staying somewhere more conventional would feel a little boring. The Carlton Arms became part of our New York experience rather than simply being the place where we slept, and that’s probably the best compliment I can give it.

The space was so fun and unique and it was truly special! It was in an incredible location and so affordable. The mattress was exceptionally comfortable. The staff was warm and great at communicating and being available. The space is really relaxed, and we felt like if we needed anything, we would be met with inviting hospitality.

It was definitely the NYC experience we wanted. All the murals on every wall and the cute knick-knacks were wonderful. Also the complementary coffee was the cherry on top! The room was very spacious and was the exact size for my family.

Great location. Rooms and art is a bit creepy, some energy harvesting was going on on the Egyptian floor. Ah well. Protected my space.. wifi didn't work on the 4th floor. They politely moved me to the 1rst floor with a bathroom, that was nice. Kind and welcoming staff.
