Breakfast and food in general was good. They had a good happy hour. Service was good and servers were friendly and helpful. Location was good. The community areas in the lobby, around the pool and yard were fun and made it very easy to meet the other guests and socialize. Nice dive staff and boats . It is a hotel for scuba divers and they do a good job with their clientele. I would not recommend staying there unless you dive.
The entire place inside and out is very run down and in need of maintenance everywhere I looked. Showers on the first floor only had hot water occasionally and the rooms smelled. AC's took a long time to cool the rooms and you had to leave them running full time to stay cool. I was on the fourth floor with no elevator and that was very challenging for me the first few days. The pool needs painted or resurfaced, palm trees need to be trimmed and yard maintained better. Lots of coconuts that can fall on someone. Snorkeling is not very good in front of this hotel and the ladder to get into the ocean is difficult. The pool ladder is a little difficult also. There is no good place to get into the ocean from the shore. Too many rocks and very slippery. They could make an area that would be easier to get into the ocean and that would be a very nice addition. In general, the owner needs to put some much needed maintenance and care into this place. They have a loyal clientele that seems willing to put up with how run down everything is but they were complaining about it. The place has so much potential. It's sad to see it being neglected.
THE GOOD
-Great dive operation, attentive dive masters and cred
-Small bunch of folks, not over crowded
-Starts at 9AM, a little more morning time
NOT SO GOOD
-Rooms need lots of TLC
-Place appears to be run down
-Way better value elsewhere for the price
This property has potential to be very nice boutique small dive resort, but lack of attention and upkeep is not helping.
The online photos are AI generated and do not represent the genuine look of this motel. This is a really dumpy place. Don't know how they call it a resort...far from it. The hot water and wifi didn't work. The outlets were so old, our chargers wouldn't stay in the socket. Made us wonder if it was electrically safe to even plug in any device. The grounds are in disrepair. Broken furniture, dirty cushions. The beds are awful and uncomfortable. The concrete is literally crumbling and falling off the buildings. The faucets in the bathroom are old and rusty.
The street noise and loud music is unbearable, and the accumulating trash around the grounds is unacceptable. The workers need to get off their butts and off their phones and clean this place up. It's a tired and depressing property. Whoever owns this place needs to close it down and do a refurbishment of everything.
There are no refunds, no exceptions, not even for your deposit. We wanted to leave early and get a refund for the unused nights, but they refused.
DO NOT stay here. There are so many places in Cozumel that will be a better experience.
The rooms are *ok*. The food is pretty good. There is live music right outside the rooms at least a couple of nights a week and it is very loud - even inside the rooms. It does stop at about 8:30-9:00pm, but if you don't like loud music, don't stay here.
If you are a diver, you may want to beware. The safety culture is very lacking. By default, the don't even want you to check your own gear. They don't analyze nitrox and even when I asked for an analyzer, it was broken. There are no safety briefings on the boats. If this is fine with you, the boats are fast and the diving is OK.
Sorry for late post, but truly need to do this review. It was noisy with a dog in a room barking every morning at 4am...Think it was the owners dog from what we were told. My husband and I got montazumas revenge eating and drinking there. Talked to some people leaving, also happened to them. We decided to eat and drink only outside the hotel and we got better, it went away in a few days eating and drinking outside. I feel some of the staff was not as friendly as our first visit in the past with them Never smiled at you, felt less welcomed this time. Sorry, Blue Angel but your going down hill in service, friendliness and overall stay. We talked to others who only now dive with you, DO NOT STAY THERE and why. That says a lot... I do not recommend you as a great stay anymore. I do recommend the dive shop! They have always been wonderful!!
Front porch
Weg is wat rumoerig
location to scuba diving , boat is 10 feet away from your property, easy access, dive shop and dive staff are very friendly, helpful and convinient. will come back to dive , music is good, sunset view from your balcony room is wonderful.
room is very outdated, slightly not clean, everything is old , need some change and update, toilet seat is uncomfortable, molded, bed sheets are sticky, we tolerated because of only 3 days of diving. hope they will improve
This is now our second visit and we love this place. The concierge dive service will spoil you and so will the restaurant. Far enough south to avoid the noise but close enough to walk
The view from the room is simply the best! The room itself is nice and spacious. I like that everything was clean and simple. The staff is great, the restaurant is very good.
You can snorkel right from the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay very much!
The only problem I encountered was the water pressure in the shower, but I could manage even with long hair.
Location and staff
Food was great, staff was great. View was great from the room!
Rooms were not very sound proof, you could hear your neighbors very clearly, was woken up early every morning to the sounds of air tanks banging together. The pool needed some serious attention, paint was peeling very badly.
Beautiful view, great staff, intimate, nice pool.
I am a professional scuba diver and my wife doesn’t dive due to sea sickness. So as we married people do, we find a compromise. Blue Angel resort is the perfect place. Right on the ocean and a pool as well. The staff is very friendly and they make you feel welcomed, all the time. The scuba dive staff are also very professional and very good at what they do. Now, here is the secret of the place…the Chef is exceptional! Never saw them or met them but what came out of the kitchen was well presented and very delicious.
The hotel is well kept and if it is broken or not working, it gets repaired or replaced. The AC was perfect, the beds were comfortable and they even had pillows that quite adequate!
You are the perfect distance between cruise ship ports that you avoid the thousands that pour off those ships. I highly recommend to rent a jeep for the day and cruise to the breezy side of the island…about 100$ with everything in…the hotel staff arranged this for us. There was a young lady by the name of Sylvia who sang there a few nights…she is exceptionally talented!
4/5, would stay again! 3rd time on Cozumel, 1st time in this hotel.
Super friendly staff, very good dive shop, excellent breakfast included in the room rate and balcony views which are just stunning! I also really, really enjoyed just being able to walk directly from the breakfast, down past the dive shop and on to the boats, where your diving gear would be waiting for you. Good and fast dive boats, although 2 out of the 3 were small with no bathroom facilities, if that's important to you. Good dive masters!
The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are what I would call OK by local standards (although I really wish they would allow you to flush the used toilet paper, yuck!) and with reasonable water pressure and hot water most of the time.
The walk to the downtown area of San Miguel is about 15 minutes or 150 pesos in a taxi, and the taxis are plentiful. The live music in the evening (3 days/week) was of very high standard. The garden is nice and the pool (mostly used for divers' training) area is a great place to lounge about with a drink from the bar, enjoying the sunsets. The best rooms are probably in the x03-05 range on the 3rd and 4th floor, as those are away from the lobby/garden "elevator" music (why not turn that off?) and have less street noise, allowing one to fully appreciate the sounds of wind in the palms and surf on the pier. We asked to be moved from the 2nd floor to one of the upper floors, and staff were very kind to accomodate that without any fuss. Also by chance met the owner of the place, and she spontaneously offered us lunch in the restaurant, which was great!
However, with that said, there is also quite some room for improvement. The rooms are indeed dated (and the electrical outlets are in particular quite dodgy & SUPER-dirty!) and there is quite some street noise. When the hotel undergoes renovation in the hopefully not-too-distant future, then I would very strongly recommend that sound-proof doors towards the street be installed. Along the same lines, the x06 rooms at the end of the building and towards the small shipyard would benefit immensely from some fencework up against the yard building, for some sound mitigation to dampen street noise.
We stayed at Blue Angel for Diving, which we enjoyed the dive leader Andy and the Boat people. The dive shop people are not very accommodating, we were unable to dive on Thursday due to illness, and they would not allow us to switch to Friday or give a refund. The hotel itself and staff is disappointing. Most days you would see the staff sitting around playing on their phones while the sitting area in the lobby is in disarray chairs stacked, cushions a mess, clean lines stacked on the couches. dirty dishes stacked up, water container empty. There was a coke bottle on the side of the steps the entire week we were there. Lounge furniture by the pool legs broken laying there on the ground. Pool needs painting. In our room the outlets are hanging out of the wall 303. looks like black mold on the ceiling and above the air conditioner.
The best way to spend our 10th Anniversary. The room was excellent. The food is superb. We arrived on Monday ,enjoyed live music on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
I love the staff here, very friendly and kind and helpful. I do shore dives here. The place is always clean and well maintained. They have a dive gear area to setup and it’s perfect. Lots of creatures to see. I have been going there for the last 10 years since I have been living here. I love to take my time and look while diving.
great live entertainment !! The Friday night and Saturday night bands and singers were excellent and the Buffalo wings are just like back home
