I read lots or reviews before booking, and this is fair assessment of the Occidental Fuengirola .We arrived at lunchtime on 1/3/26. The rooms weren't ready but that is understandable, no problem for me. Safe storage for our luggage, so we went to explore. Very nice grounds that were well kept. There was building work taking place at the pool bars and snack bars, which weren't open. It is March Afterall. The smaller pool was open but it wasn't warm enough to use. The larger pool was fenced off and closed.
This break was only to recharge the batteries, With that in mind, we chose a Barcelo hotel because in my opinion they are usually quite good. The hotel didnt disappoint but the quality of food was not good. Never any variation on the breakfast menu. And please find a different meat supplier, Bacon is always hit and miss, but this hotels presentation was not good. One thing for me ,was the provision of chilled semi skimmed milk for my cereal, Thank you for that. Overall the hotel was very much ok.
Friendly staff
The noisy lift, could be heard from room near the lift. The air conditioning was not operational from the bedroom.
Had a lovey stay staff where lovey hotel so clean and food great would go back there great for the Sunday market just cross the road

The hotel is very clean, staff very polite and efficient, the grounds are clean and welcoming. Bedrooms are large, clean, bathroom large, with walk in shower. Rooms are cleaned daily. Location suited myself and my husband, as we prefer it a little quieter, but lots of bars and restaurants within a short walking distance. We only did bed and breakfast on this 11 night stay, and so glad we did. Food is not 4 star at all. You could have cereals,with semi skimmed milk, which you cannot always get. But the cooked breakfast side of the options were poor, bacon and sausage in name only, they were awful. We did partake in a lobby meal - think fast food, again, not great but maybe that was my choice. Would I stay here again, I may, if reviews of the food improve.
The public areas & room were spotlessly clean & inviting. The bar was cosy & pool area was lovely. Very nice breakfast but a bit busy at times.
My room was very high up & the balcony was quite low so I didn't feel safe to go out there. Breakfast although lovely could have had a bit of variety on different days.
It was well managed and pretty clean and comfortable
Dinner could have more options, specifically vegetarian options
The hotel is about a 15 min walk from the station, worth getting a taxi if you have cases.
To get there straight out of Malaga airport to the train station, get a 6 euro ticket and its the last stop, super easy. The hotel itself is modern and well maintained right on the seafront and a 10 min walk to local bars etc.
We were on the 6th floor with a side view of the sea and at night could hear the waves crashing on the beach, more about that later.
Breakfast was OK but the same every day with very little variety.
The evening buffet was a waste of time and money, far better to put the extra cost towards eating out.
There was very little to choose from, and looked like it was done on a shoestring budget.
My main reason for 2 stars was my lack of sleep. It was February and the rooms very hot at night
Opened the patio doors, lovely with the sound of the waves.
The, bang, at one o’clock 8 air-conditioning units started up, it sounded like an aeroplane taking off.
They went on and off all night. I complained the next morning, was told I couldn't move but it would be reported.
Same thing happened the next night and in total 5 nights in7 they were only turned off when the manager became involved.
As a result I will not be staying there again, a shame as it's a nice hotel
Our junior suite was very comfortable and had a veiw of the sea from the balcony. The room was serviced daily and the shower was powerful. Location was great
A small thing but need to change between the coffee machine and kettle was a bit of a bind. Needed top up coffee pods

Well situated , nice large and very clean lobby
On listing , the room safe was listed as an amenity , however at check in time the staff told me that there is an extra daily charge for the use of the safe . This is one of the stupid little things that customers remember about their experience . If there is a charge , please specify it in the listing!!!
