Room was wonderful, everything you needed, only a personal preference would have liked a small fridge, due to medication and liking cold drinks.
Only a small fridge
Location, clean and friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Gorgeous views
Grand buildings
Comfortable bedrooms
Excellent restaurant
Very few additions in bedrooms- no water, toiletries, biscuits, mini-bar
Lounge bar decor and ambience poor
Ambience in the hotel very relaxing, delightful artwork and decor lovely. Such a good idea to have written history of the hotel available for guests about the hotel, made the stay much more personal and interesting
Located in a quiet area of the countryside, room clean, comfortable and mostly quiet.
Breakfast was good but fairly restricted selection.
The room I was allocated in the Pear Tree mews was right by where the service lorries deliver each morning at 6.35am, lovely noises to wake up to as they idle for an hour+ literally by (above) the window.
Decor in room v.dated
Be aware the hotel does NOT come with a pool/spa, bit deceiving descriptions in the literature I read beforehand. The pool/spa is a separate BUPA facility next door and has to be paid for - £25/day/person when we visited. The hotel gets given ONLY 6 spaces in the spa per day! The spa is v.good though.
Our suite was stunning, eventually. It was a mystery why, when the hotel was empty, we were originally allocated the smallest and least impressive suite.
I love the Wood Norton. I have been a regular visor to the hotel since 2015, both as a hotel guest and diner. I decided to book a romantic weekend away on Saturday, as a surprise for my partner. I booked a suite on booking.com and a table at the restaurant (the first time eating at the Hotel since the appointment of Glyn Purnell as Culinary Director).
On our arrival at the hotel, despite requesting an early check-in, the incredibly rude receptionist informed my partner that we would not be able to check-in until 3.00pm (it was as if my booking details hadn't been shared with the hotel by booking.com). After parking the car, when I tried to query this, the lady ignore me for over five minutes while she finished a conversation with a housekeeping colleague. This lady should seriously consider a career away from the hospitality industry. She is clearly not a people person.
Thankfully, the wonderful General Manager, Max, sorted things out and we were able to check in. We were given the curiously-named "Balcony Room" - the room has no balcony - initially, but I queried whether this was actually a suit - as it consisted of one room and a bathroom. Again, following Max's intervention, we were moved to a Princess Louise suite, which was a very beautiful suite. On a weekend when the hotel was so quiet - all three suites were vacant - it is a mystery why we were originally allocated the smallest and least impressive suite (which actually isn't really a suite in the normally-understood sense).
After the slightly awkward false start, we had a wonderful stay at the Wood Norton. My only niggle was that the suite had neither a fridge or a mini-bar - I always request a jug of fresh milk for morning coffee, instead of suffering small capsules of UHT milk. When I made this point to Reception, the same ill-mannered receptionist - with a curious sense of pride - explained that none of the hotel's rooms had fridges.
Stunning hotel with some amazing views
Nothing
Good location
Very expensive drinks
Beautiful building, with free parking, albeit up the hill and the signage isn't that clear. Room clean and comfy bed in the main manor. Fab views of the garden and beyond. Breakfast good, lovely ladies serving the hot food cooked to order and so welcoming. Lounges had open fires going and great to relax in.
Snooker room fun, just needs a second cue (1 broken) and there's no rest! Also bit noisy at night when neighbouring rooms start up fans in the bathroom.
Excellent short break for the Cotswolds and area. Thanks to all.
Well presented place with wood panelling throughout downstairs, clean room with fabulous far reaching view, lots of lounges with an open fire going, great buffet breakfast with hot food cooked to order and especially welcoming and happy staff
Better mirror in bathroom! Noisy at points from fans coming on in the night.
We have a lovely time here unfortunately we didn’t stay over!
We had a great experience in the Fleur de lys.
Tazmin (sorry if i spelt it wrong)
The service was excellent and she was always happy to help.
She gave really good recommendations on the food and made a great wine recommendation as-well to go with the venison!
She was everywhere bar, reception, restaurant well done! Very impressive.
All the staff were great. Will definitely return for lunch and dinner!
