Hotel changed my room to a lodge due to health reasons as a last minute. Couldnt have been any more greatful. The views and grounds were stunning. The staff where great and attentive. Cleaner added extra coffee and milk for 2nd night which was also a great and tidied the room to a high standard. Room was dated, however this added to the overall experience of peace and tranquilitiy which is what i was looking for.
****Highly recommend this hotel and will be visiting again ***
The hotel is in a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Windermere and very peaceful. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and the cooked dishes were well presented.
We had an evening meal which was a bit pricey but good quality food.
We were in a lodge which was comfortable and warm but a few things need attention. The bathroom fan was not working for our entire stay and the washbasin had a huge crack in it.
I was expecting a room in the main house. We had to walk uphill 300 yards to the lodge. This isn't made clear on your website. Not expected!!! Great view of Windermere though with balcony. Dressing gowns supplied were terrible, frayed and thread bare. New carpet needed. Not great value for money 😕
The views!!! Breakfast and dinner were delicious 😋
Holbeck Ghyll is is a lovely location and the main building is very picturesque.
We stayed in one of the lodges which unfortunately was quite tired and in need a of a refresh.
Water marks on the walls, a bit grubby, mould in the bathroom and a shower that did not drain well.
The staff were very nice, the bed was comfortable and there was no noise when we stayed.
Breakfast was okay and included in our stay.
If the hotel was cheaper, we would have over looked all these things. Additionally, we only stayed two nights so did not really have a chance to give the staff any of this feedback directly.
Beautiful location with stunning views of Lake Windermere. The room and bathroom were pristine. The decor was in the arts and crafts style. Restaurant food was very good and there was an excellent choice of fruit and cereals for breakfast along with superbly cooked and flavoursome items. Staff were kind and courteous and the overall service was excellent. Highly recommended. Will certainly come again next time we’re in the late district.
What an amazing, unique property with bags of character, we stayed in the Langdale suite which was ideal as a dog friendly room.
Greg on reception was very helpful and knowledgeable, and a lovely welcome at breakfast from James.
Highly recommended for a quiet escape from busy lives..
Amazing hotel, thank you so much
Not sure if it was due to understaffing but the young lady welcoming us was kind and efficient but not very friendly. We ordered wine at the start of our dinner and did not receive it until our main course ( drank water with our appetizers). We were the only ones in the dinning room between 6 and 7 so not sure what happened. We also were charged for two beers after we had checked out…. We had to call to find out what the charge was, maybe we could of been notified at check out that you forgot to charge us at dinner. We highly recommend this amazing hotel it truly is wonderful.
This place has a lot of potential as a classic country hotel. Check in wasn’t particularly welcoming and first impressions count. We were shown to our room and it was cold with no lights on. The receptionist who wasn’t friendly was shocked when I commented on that…
Breakfast was slow but we were relaxed and enjoyed the views. Good quality though and plenty of options.
Room 2 was lovely (once the heating and correct lighting had been turned on) with great views. Comfy bed and good linens. Bathroom was tired, with a whirlpool bath which didn’t work.
Probably would return though!
Such a picturesque view from our room and the service was amazing from the second we walked in.
Superb stay. Excellent staff and location. Couldn’t ask for anything more
The hotel charged horrendously for an indifferent evening meal and for its wine list on Christmas Eve (the menu was the same for any evening), and on the Boxing Day (2024) there was no evening meal service, not even a buffet. A great shame since otherwise I would have rated the service and room as excellent; the room was excellent.
Fabulous staff where amazing
There are many hotels in the area that are quieter, less dated, and more comfortable.
Amazing views from hotel spectacular and brilliant service
Hotel is a fantastic location and looks amazing. Dig a bit deeper and it's a little tired. Our room was really nice, no complaints there, and the bed was really comfortable but the bathroom is very tired and desperately needs updating. There's some black mold, the bath is stained yellow, a badly damaged bath panel and a shower head fitting that was frankly not fit for purpose. Overall we enjoyed our stay, again, can't fault the staff, but there are areas to improve to really push the hotel to another level.
What a fabulous hotel … views amazing looking over Windermere , young staff lovely to see all very helpful and knowledgeable and the food was fantastic
Wished we were staying longer rather than an overnight stop on the way back from Scotland
Lovely 4 night stay. Very welcoming staff, especially Tom. Cleaner was brilliant - spotted our 25th Wedding Anniversary cards (we hadn't mentioned it) and she sorted a bottle of champagne for when we got back to the room (thank you!) View was great, even when raining and grounds are lovely too.
The stay was as expected. The difficulty for me was the flights of stairs up to the bedroom.
