Zeer aangenaam verblijf in een fijne stad met super vriendelijk personeel.

Zeer mooi hotel met een mooie lounge en leuke kamers.

Cons:

Het inchecken. In eerste instantie wordt er aangeraden om dit digitaal te doen. Na een lange dag of lange reisdag is dit iets wat je niet wil. Dan wil je direct geholpen worden door een vriendelijke baliemedewerker. Zet de onthaalbalie met een medewerker iets centraler in plaats van het online incheckgebeuren. We werden nadien wel geholpen door super vriendelijk personeel!!

This hotel is superlative in many many ways from location next to two pretty canals, access to all the sites, room layout, unmatchable cleanliness, comfortable beds, amazingly considerate and welcoming staff. The building architects were thoughtfully human centered in designing the spaces
that make you feel relaxed and spacious in the lobby, public areas and in the rooms. I also loved the quality of the fresh made breakfast buffet selection including local farm sourced cheeses and cold cuts. I don't eat breakfast and because my rate included breakfast, I was able to make a little sandwich with a slice of the fresh loaf of grainy bread and gouda cheese. The staff did not give me a hard time about taking food out which I really appreciated. The room price point is very fair--not overpriced and overly high end, not inexpensive. I wish every hotel in the world would model themselves on what is presented here. Lastly Gouda is really lovely and worth visiting. This city together with the hotel, its staff and all who contribute to providing the visitor experience charmed and rejuvenated me. This stay was exactly what I needed after a long week of intense work meetings in Amsterdam. Thank you!

Pleasant hotel but could be so much better

Location is on the edge of the centrum. Comfortable and appears homely.

Cons:

We’ve stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions but they have done away with the reception and replaced it with a digital check-in facility. It did work ok but a shame to remove the personal touch. The food menu basically consisted of bar food, pizzas etc and the bar somewhat soulless. The hotel advertised EV chargers which are actually in the Q Park car park which adjoins the hotel. The chargers are only 11kwh and somewhat hit and miss with regards to working.

A good modernised hotel but with a crazy 'bathroom' design
Pros:

My wife and I were part of a group of 9 cyclists all staying at the City Hotel. Many other cyclists also staying. Recently modernised and generally pleasant hotel - surprisingly Gouda has very little hotel accommodation. Our bedroom was very good apart from the crazy 'bathroom' arrangement which I describe below. None of our group dined in the hotel. Good cycle space but a long walk around the hotel to reach it and very cramped - just not big enough.

Cons:

The 'bathroom' Whilst the toilet was in a separate room, the shower, bath and basin were not and were in the main room! See photographs. The bath and shower were in a 'hole' that you had to climb up into using a portable step (only one handle). The shower was at the far end yet the soaps were at the other end and mounted far too high if you were having a bath. The wash basin was ridiculously high. The whole arrangement was very dangerous for elderly people or if you were in the room alone. If you weren't a couple occupying the room then there was no privacy whatsoever. The full length mirror in front of you as you climbed out of the 'hole' was not welcome. All the rest of our group agreed with us - a major rethink is needed.
