We regularly travel to San José and spend at least 10–15 nights per year in hotels there during our business and personal trips. Based on long-term experience with hotels in this city, this stay was by far the worst we have had.
This hotel is definitely not worth staying at, and the price does not reflect the quality of services provided. We paid nearly USD 200 for a stay with late check-out, and for that amount we could have stayed in a far more comfortable, professional, and better-maintained hotel in San José.
The hotel’s online presentation does not reflect reality. Although it is technically located in Escazú and advertised as being close to the city center, the actual location is extremely unpleasant. The property is directly connected to a highway with severe traffic congestion for more than half of the day. On one side, the hotel almost faces a toll gate, and on the other side there is a direct view of unattractive slums. The surroundings are loud, chaotic, and far from what is suggested on the website.
The hotel itself feels worn out and poorly maintained. The corridors have old, unattractive carpets that look visibly worn and dirty, contributing to the overall neglected impression.
Breakfast was extremely disappointing. The selection was very limited and closer to a low three-star hotel standard. There was virtually no fruit available, only a few unappealing pieces of papaya. There was no real fresh juice, and even basic hygiene standards were lacking, as separate clean cutlery was not provided. We were forced to use the same fork for different foods, which is unacceptable.
The internet connection was extremely slow and insufficient. Upon check-in, the bathroom was not properly prepared - liquid soap and shampoo were only half-filled, clearly indicating poor service and lack of attention to detail.
The air conditioning unit was an old, large, unattractive floor-standing device that was extremely noisy when operating, making it uncomfortable to use.
The swimming pool had unbearably cold water, making it impossible to enjoy. We stayed in the pool for only a few minutes before having to leave. We did not use the fitness center. Parking was convenient, which is one of the very few positives.
Despite having paid for a late check-out, we were pressured by the reception shortly after 12:00 to leave the room, and our hotel key cards stopped working exactly at noon. This was highly unprofessional and unacceptable given that late check-out had been confirmed and paid for.
Considering the price, location, overall condition of the hotel, and the level of competing hotels in San José, this property is significantly overpriced. Without exaggeration, this was our worst hotel stay in San José, and one we definitely do not intend to repeat.
Clean room, nice staff. Great location.
I enjoyed my stay
My husband and I went to Costa Rica for the first time. We stay 3 days at Wyndham Garden. We love it, I wish I can give them 10 starts. The staff went above and beyond. We didn't have a car and one our excursion got cancel. I had problems with my phone so I only could call Uber from the hotel . The receptionist told us to call her when we are ready to get back and she will send the hotel bus to get us. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and the food was so good. The rooms were clean , the WIFI was very good. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for making our first 3 day in Costa Rica unforgettable.
Easy access to hiway and Escazu
The hotel and its staff were excellent. The location made it accessible by foot to two different food and retail areas. And the food at the hotel restaurant was excellent, along with the service.
Mediocre
Excellent hotel and ammenities.
Great location, just 10 minutes from the Market places, museum, parks, monuments. Close to Walmart and shopping center
Business center was a nice touch. The shower gel and shampoo and soap smelled GREAT. We stayed in 230 and the wifi was not avail and cell signal was not great. Perfect for the evening for an early embassy apt. Clean, quiet and comfortable bed.
Everything
Very convenient and quiete place.
Hotel didn’t have my reservation when I arrived. No room upgrade and the room didn’t have hot water. They also made me have service dog certification even though they claim to be pet friendly. It’s right beside the highway as well
Absolutely loved this stay! The location was ideal—close to all the must-see spots and easy to get around.
Great hotel. I love hotels without carpets. This hotel was really clean, modern rooms, and an excellent air conditioner. I really enjoy this place.
Pros- rooms, breakfast, attention , complimentary shuttle to Multiplaza Mall, awesome pool, excellent gym.
Const- at night it is too dark to walk, not music at night, and not lobby bar.
My trip was for business and front desk was very helpful. I needed to put together a proposal and they went above and beyond customer service. I will be back and will be my hotel of choice. Even though in my room I noticed it needed a bit updating. Overall it was great.
Well it is a very nice hotel.
Pros- very clean, gentle reception employee, nice pool, great gym, huge and modern room, complimentary shuttle to "Multiplaza " mall, excellent ride, always on time. You might walk to find a close place like a mall. About 20 minutes away. Escazú Mall. Not bad, it's nice.
Const- I reported the phone line no one came to repair it. In case if an emergency its so important in order to contact someone. This was the reason why I don't give 10/10.
Thanks truly.
Ok
Very like
Ok
There are food option not to far away. the buffet breakfast if you are looking for no pork or beef or healthy options, it is not for you. We encounter cold water 3 nights contact the front desk over 4 times in regards. They were kind but still then there was hair in the bathroom and bed, was fixed happen two times after cleaning. The expectation of a Wyndham was not there. I believe the building use to be something that was turned into a hotel.
