The location near the Salt plains is very nice. Overall the rooms are ok for the price, the . However the service has left me absolutely floored - see below. Overall, they want to work with tour groups and function as a resort. They are not the right place for someone who wants a nice hotel but is interested in handling things on their own and wants the flexibility of a hotel. Also remember that what you pay on Expedia etc is not the correct price because you are far away from everyplace else and you will spend on their meals / buffets. Still if you want to stay here, skip the all inclusive package and pay in bolivianos that you change from USD for approximately B9.30-B9.50 and it will come out a lot cheaper. Similarly book your own tours instead of using the ones from the reception. Finally, also make sure you are ready to wait till 3 PM no matter how busy or lightly loaded the hotel may be.
I upgraded the review from 1* to 3* primarily because of Fernando who runs the restaurant. He exemplified great service - flexible and trying to help. He had a good dinner Buffett with great dessert treats but I wanted fruit and he made it happen. Similarly at the buffet breakfast, he brought me Chia seeds even thought it was not part of the breakfast buffet.
The housekeeping/reception manager would learn a lot from Fernando in terms of how to be flexible and hospitable.
My flight got in early and I reached the hotel after stops in Colchani and the train graveyard and upon reaching the hotel, I walked to the salt plains and back. It was noon when I returned. All good so far. I then noticed on the walk to the restaurant - which was not open at noon as advertised - that I was pretty much the only guest in the hotel. Most of the hotel had emptied out. I suggested that they prioritize my room as the first to be cleaned. They refused and gave me a lecture about the policies of the hotel. I gave up and ate at the restaurant and sat near the reception area. They said that the check in was at 3 pm. That time came and went and no one told me that my room was ready. A big tour group came in and I decided to ask if it was ready and it turned out they had it ready but I guess their policies preclude them from coming up to a waiting guest to tell them the room was ready. No one was there to show me to the room - it was up three flights of stairs with no real directions to it. I passed by much of the hotel and while my room is away from the rest of the hubhub - I am glad I am not in most of the other rooms because they will be noisy.
I also asked if I could book a sunset tour tonight and they said it was $220. In about five minutes, I found a highly rated tour for $50 instead.
I asked for a bottle of water for my walk to the plain in the morning. $4 a bottle. I find there are two complimentary in the room. The cost of a mediocre grilled trout for lunch - $22. Cost of Breakfast : $40.
I am fine paying these prices with good service but the service overall is like dealing with the Bolivian government.
This place is also far away from anywhere else and so It is a pain for trying to buy other stuff that I may need before I embark on my 2 nights tour of the plains.
It is a classic “luxury” resort that survives on tours of people from Europe or USA who are used to traveling in a cloistered environment. Not for someone who enjoys traveling on their own. Don’t book it as someone traveling on your own.
To be clear, the staff themselves are pleasant, helpful and friendly. The management believes in its policies rather than trying to be hospitable. At no time did I demand or even request any early check in - just asked if they could try to ready my room quicker since no one else was waiting.
The swimming pool is basically a hot tub and not a pool. It has a decent view. The floors of the area are super slippery.
Finally, my room’s walls look like they have mold? See picture.
Truly a place I want to come back over and over again!
We had an incredible stay at Luna Salada, but what truly made it unforgettable was staying in one of the domes. Without exaggeration, it felt like something out of a movie, at times it even felt like we were on another planet, like a Star Wars scene.
The dome experience is absolutely unique. Waking up surrounded by the endless white of the salt flats, with complete silence and such a surreal landscape, is something very special. At night, the sky is breathtaking, full of stars and unlike anything we had ever seen before.
The dome itself was very comfortable, clean, and well designed, combining this unique experience with real comfort. It felt private, peaceful, and completely immersive.
The hotel overall is excellent, great service, good food, and a beautiful atmosphere. The thing I would say is that if you stay here, you really have to choose the dome. It takes the experience to another level.
This was one of the most magical places we have ever stayed, and we would recommend it to anyone visiting Uyuni.
Also Maritza the person we communicated with was so attentive and helpful!
We stayed at Luna Salada with my partner and friends, and it was an unforgettable experience. Without hesitation, this is the best hotel in the Salar.
The location is perfect, with breathtaking views over the salt flats, especially during sunset and sunrise. Sitting in the lounge and watching the landscape change colors was one of the highlights of our trip.
The hotel itself is beautiful, built entirely of salt. The rooms were clean, quiet, and well designed. After long days exploring, it was the perfect place to relax (THE SPA AND POOL!!)
The staff were very kind and helpful, and the food was excellent every day. We got to try typical Bolivian dishes and learn the history behind every dish!
Everything was well organized and made our stay easy and enjoyable.
We were very happy with our stay at Luna Salada and would recommend it to anyone visiting Uyuni.
It is in a unique location that overlooks some mud flats and off in the distance the salt flats. This was booked through our tour provider and they drove us here. The architecture is very unique and quite interesting. The restaurant is great. The only quibble is the water pressure in the shower, but you are in the middle of the high desert. Great for visit the salt flats.
Beautiful hotel in a great location in Luna Salada, and the spa was decent and relaxing. Unfortunately, the food was not very good.
What really disappointed us was the service. Communication with the staff was very difficult. Several times they acted as if they understood our questions, but later it was clear they had not understood at all.
We also had a bad experience with an excursion booked through the hotel. We asked multiple times about the price and were told it would be 100 Bolivianos, but when it came time to pay they told us it was actually 100 US dollars, which felt very misleading.
Overall, the hotel itself is nice, but the service and communication need serious improvement.
One of the few good things was the view from the room. Food pretty awful. Large choice at breakfast but most bland or not very nice; same at dinner. Pastry chef v. poor. Pillows over large and uncomfortable. Bathroom door wouldn't shut. Shower leaked copiously. Basin had no plug so everything had to be done with running water. Tiles super slippery.
I stayed at Luna Salada for two nights, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. The views over the salt flats are simply unbelievable — truly one of the most breathtaking landscapes I’ve ever seen.
The food was excellent, and the whole team at the hotel was warm, welcoming, and really made the stay feel special. You can tell they care about creating a great experience for their guests.
I would definitely love to come back again. It’s the perfect place for couples — quiet, cozy, and super romantic with those endless views.
This is a 3-star hotel on a good day. Did not meet expectations. In fact, we would recommend going for a different hotel in lieu of this one.
Food was very bad - salads, eggs, milk - all had added sugar. The pastries and bread smelt stale.
The staff at the restaurant cared more about you paying for the drinks and cleaning the tables, than for your comfort or experience. They are much more likely to bring the cheque faster than actually brining you what you asked for…
Spa and pool areas are too small for the size of the hotel and number of guests. Was extremely overcrowded.
Lamps in the room were broken with sketchy wiring. When we asked for replacement at reception, the staff did it very reluctantly and gave us another badly wired lamp that had to be propped against another object in order to work..
There are also construction works going on in the hotel but the materials and tools are all left on display and not hoarded off or cleaned up. Unprofessional and inconsiderate of user experience.
This Hotel is very cool, great views, super interesting interior decor, many lovely cozy seating areas and of course, all made of salt blocks, everywhere. Restaurant food really nice, dinner and breakfast.
Things to know: Pay a little extra for a room facing the Salar, the view is worth it. Water is expensive here, buy some 3 litre bottles in town before you arrive so you can avoid buying extra water, because you will ned it. No elevator and long corridors with many stairs, handicapped people beware, make sure to request a ground floor room in advance.
But, if they are trying to be +4 Stars, they could fix some important items. First, some "tude" from the lady who checked us in about 2 small issues, she ncould not care less. ALL the rest of the staff were exceptionally good. Rooms, hmmmn,,,,, this is a new hotel, 4 years old, there was barely any light in the room, no switches by the bed to turn off room lights, few outlets for charging and incredibly no place to hang up any clothes, no dresser space/closets etc, with almost no space for for any luggage. Big room but was cramped, at least put some hooks up on the wall. Robes in the room were a nice touch, but honestly, I am a pretty fit guy and the robes were too small for me. Lot's of potential here, but details need attention.
I stayed at the Hotel Luna Salada last week and all I can say is, incredible! The hotel sits adjacent to the salt flats of Uyuni and is literally made out of salt bricks which is really cool!
We stayed two nights, one night in a regular room, and another night in a domo. Both had espectacular views of the salt flats. The view of the stars at night and the salt flat at daybreak were breathtaking. Both rooms were absolutely spotless and super comfortable. The employees of the hotel were so helpful and accommodating. Always trying to make sure we were having our needs met.
We took a tour of the salt flat organized by the hotel. Our tour guide Demetrio was an absolute character. If you are planning on taking a tour of the salt flat without a doubt ask if Demetrio is available. He was the personification of customer service tailoring the tour around our desires. He was so knowledgeable about the area, and also a great photographer!
Our stay was so relaxing and enjoyable! Without a doubt I would come and stay here again, and will recommend it to everyone I know that will be going to Uyuni.
Beautiful
Great location great views staff was very attentive .
The accommodation was good. The room warm throughout the cold night and had comfy bedding. Breakfast and dinner were good and generous. A small splash pool and sauna were ideal relaxation after a day out in the Salar. The only caution we have about this establishment was the slippery bathroom and shower. Someone is destined to have a bad fall under these conditions if not already.
Why all the negative comments?
Solo traveler stayed one night, no issues. The tour operator dropped me off a bit early. Was able to check in one hour early. The bar had amazing snacks and food. The hotel is amazing at night, well lit inside and outside. Yes it is away from everything. The sunrise over the salt flats is amazing. Will return in 2026.
Beautiful hotel and had the pleasure of spending the day with Jesus who showed us around Uyuni and the salt flats.
The Luna Salada hotel is situated on a small hill overlooking the salt flats, outside Colchani. You can’t realistically walk anywhere from the hotel.
We had half board and the breakfast was a buffet with a good selection including a range of hot items and some very nice cakes. The evening meal was also a buffet with soup, nice bread, a good range of hot items including a number of vegetarian and meat options. There was also salad and a good choice of desserts.
The room had a fabulous view over the salt flats and was spacious (although we did have an upgrade), other rooms we saw were smaller and didn’t have such a good view. The room was nicely furnished but unfortunately we found the room and the whole hotel really cold. The room had an aircon/heat unit but even on the top heat setting we were very cold in the room.
The only time we weren’t cold in the hotel was in bed and in the swimming pool. Unfortunately though we could only go swimming on the first night because after that we couldn’t get our costumes dry enough to pack due to the cold. We went for breakfast and dinner in several layers including a coat and hat and many other guests were in coats too. The radiators in the corridors weren’t on and only some of the fireplaces were lit. This was the coldest we have ever been in a hotel and it did detract from our experience in this lovely hotel.
We were provided with two small bottles of water in the room each day which was insufficient for a day out on the salt flats and it was very expensive to buy additional bottles.
We found the staff helpful and friendly although we weren’t allowed to go into our room until 3pm despite arriving at 12.30pm and the room being ready.
We had high expectations for Hotel Luna Salada, but our experience was extremely disappointing.
There was no electricity available to charge our devices or even use a hairdryer. We reported it several times, and the staff kept assuring us it would be fixed — of course, nothing was done. No heating in the room either, which made the nights absolutely freezing. The staff was unhelpful and offered no alternatives or support.
The spa was unavailable, despite being one of the hotel’s advertised features.
In the end, we just used the bed — in the cold — and woke up to a damp, freezing room. Imagine starting your day freezing and surrounded by humidity.
To make things worse, we were on our honeymoon, and the hotel was overrun by a school group. The noise coming from the common areas, including what seemed like a party or casino atmosphere, lasted until late at night. Unsurprisingly, the staff did nothing to control the situation.
“Peaceful and relaxing”? Far from it. Absolutely not worth it.
Exceptional location. Staff were absolutely wonderful. Our Dome room was magnificant and we left the curtains open at night in order to enjoy the clear skies and even saw a meteor falling. The salt plains were awesome and we got beautiful pictures with our family. 5 stars!
Staying at Hotel Luna Salada was honestly one of the most incredible and unforgettable experiences ever, it’s like sleeping in the middle of another planet, surrounded by nothing but salt and sky. The whole hotel is made of salt blocks (yes, even the floors and walls!), and everything feels super cozy and magical, especially at sunrise or sunset when the light hits the flats. Seriously, pay extra for the Dome with the salt flat view , waking up to that massive white landscape glowing pink in the morning is 100% worth it and feels like a movie. The food was delicious (highly recommend the quinoa risotto and coca tea), the spa was such a nice surprise, and just chilling by the fireplace with a book or some music while looking out at the flats was peak peace. Bring layers because it gets cold, and try to go during the rainy season if you want to see that mirror effect. It’s not just a hotel stay, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment you’ll never forget.
Hotel Luna Salada was hands down one of the most special places we’ve ever stayed. It’s such a unique experience since you are being surrounded by the salt flats and staying in a hotel made almost entirely of salt, and as a couple, it really felt like the perfect romantic escape. The rooms were warm, charming, and filled with little touches that made it feel cozy and all the unique touches of Bolivian culture. If you’re going to stay here, paying extra for the room with the view is 100% worth it. Waking up to the sun rising over the salt flats right outside your window is something we’ll never forget.
The food was seriously good—simple, but fresh and full of local flavor. We especially loved the quinoa soup and trying local dishes like llama, and the coca tea was a lifesaver for the altitude. The drinks at night by the fire, especially the warm spiced wine, were such a nice touch. And the pool was amazing, it was heated, relaxing, and surrounded by huge windows so you could still take in the views while you soaked. We left feeling rested, inspired, and honestly already wanting to come back.
