Good facilities
Air conditioning didn’t work during hottest weekend
Super friendly and helpful staff. Happy to keep our luggage before and after check in/out. Great breakfast choice, comfy beds and even tho we were on a low floor near the road, little noise.
Nothing really. Nice and quiet area at weekend as its a business area. Good tube links at Moorgate and Barbican
The staff, location and main building was lovely.
Unfortunately our room had only 1 light working in the bathroom, which made it very hard to dress properly for our event. Also, the bathroom was not very clean, the shower was dirty. The other room lights were very dim. The phone in the room was also not working. We wanted to call the front desk to see about breakfast times, but could not. The window sills were very dirty too.
I am writing this review following a highly disruptive stay on 19th–20th June 2026, which resulted in an injury, a hospital visit, and a disappointing lack of accountability from hotel management.
At 11:30 PM, my friend who I was staying with went to use the shower. The silver drain cover, located in the centre of the shower, was not secured to the floor. When she stood on it, the plate slipped into the corner of the shower basin, causing her foot to drop instantly into the exposed drain cavity. This caused her to fall out of the shower door with her foot trapped in the drain.
The in-room phone would not connect to reception, and when I called from my mobile phone, the line was left ringing for five minutes without an answer. I had to leave my injured friend to go down to the front desk in person to request ice.
Following advice from NHS 111 we had to attend A&E. While staff provided a wheelchair to the front of the hotel, they did not offer to help arrange transport, leaving us to coordinate our own travel and spend £40 on round-trip taxis. We did not get back to the hotel until 4:00 AM.
The following morning at breakfast staff watched my friend struggle down a flight of stairs on crutches, only mentioning that a lift was available after she had already navigated them.
The subsequent correspondence with the Operations Manager has been entirely unsatisfactory. He initially attempted to deflect the issue by noting the "presence of an anti-slip mat" - my friend is a 24 year old able bodies person and would not expect to require a non-slip matt to shower.
Despite a documented maintenance failure, failed communication systems, and out-of-pocket medical and transport expenses, the hotel's only offer of compensation was a 20% discount on a future stay.
As a long-term guest who frequently stays at Montcalm properties for business and personal travel, I am disappointed in this outcome.
Location was good. Breakfast was very good. Staff friendly and efficient. Good value for City locatìon
Room was small, but comfortable. Air conditioning was hard to control effectively
Extremely good team of staff across the board: genuinely good
Generous sized rooms. Clean
It’s a bit the worse for wear and tear, but the competitive price reflects that
Great location, everything else not so great...
Worn, aged hotel, shabby rooms, noisy Aircon. Not a 5 star. Maybe a 3.5 star on a good day?
Location was ideal for us and our plans.
Property is not build to deal with the summer heat in London. We had a room where the window could not be opened and aircon that didn’t work. The staff could not offer an alternative room (despite us seeing other people getting it) so we had to find another hotel at 11pm at night on a Friday.
Waiting my money back for the two night stay, and they wouldn’t honour the additional cost I had to make to get another hotel room.
Better off finding a modern / bigger branded hotel who can accommodate the summer weather, and won’t leave you with no other option but to find somewhere else.
Breakfast although busy in such a small restaurant area was good quality.
The location of the hotel is excellent with good travel links all around.
At first given a totally different room to the room booked, it was such a lot smaller and in the main hotel and not in the townhouse.
After waiting nearly an hour we were eventually shown a room in the townhouse which was not our room but was better than the first room we were given. We were told we would be moved from this room after one night. We were moved to a bigger townhouse room the next day but not until after 3pm this had a kitchenette but had a very noisy air conditioning system and no sitting area a shown in the room details.
We though decided not to pursue another move as this was only going to prolong our anxiety and would the next room be any better? we stayed in this room for the next 4 nights but probably won’t stay here again much preferred Montcalm East which is not that far away.
Staff friendly and efficient, room lovely, location great (we were going to a show at the Barbican), and a fab breakfast.
Good location
Air con wasn't working on the hottest day of the year so far!
Estadia excelente!
The seating area outside
No air con on the first night
