Excellent service. Great beach.

Stuff was amazing, room was very nice, great hotel overall!
The sun-beds at the private hotel beach were way too expensive.

I am an American traveler. I typically stay at Fairmont and Ritz Carlton properties. I want other travelers to know what awaits them at Hotel Simius Playa before they book.
The problems began before we even arrived. We booked and paid for a suite through the hotel's website. Nearly a full day later, we were informed the suite was not available. By that point, our flights from the United States had already been booked and our family members traveling from Sweden had made their arrangements as well. We were a group of 8, with our American family of 4, including two small children, and our Swedish family of 4. The suite was chosen specifically so we could stay together.
As a resolution, the hotel offered two rooms complimentary for our stay. We accepted. I want to be clear: we are not freeloaders. Between our American family of 4 spending over $2,000 on food, drinks, and services during our stay, and our Swedish family of 4 who paid full price for their suite, this hotel received a significant amount of money from our travel group. The complimentary rooms were the hotel's remedy for their own booking failure, not a favor we requested.
Upon check in, the discomfort began immediately. Our two families had planned to swap rooms upon arrival so that our American family with two small children could have the suite, while our Swedish family with older children took the two separate rooms. Staff immediately blocked this and made a point of reminding us, in front of others, that our rooms were complimentary and non-negotiable. We understand there may be company policy or even local law that prevented the room swap. Still, there was no reason to handle it the way they did. Policy can be communicated with dignity. The manner in which this was communicated was humiliating. Shortly after, a woman who appeared to hold a management role on the property and was present almost every day positioned herself near our family's rooms. She never once greeted us or smiled at us for the duration of our stay. She watched us with a cold, forced composure. The message was clear.
When our children, exhausted from a transatlantic flight and a long car ride, went to enjoy the pool, we were informed of specific operating hours and told that a guest had complained. This was not communicated at check in. It was delivered in a manner that made us feel like an imposition.
Almost every interaction with staff was terse, rushed, and unwelcoming. We made every effort to eat off property to avoid the discomfort, yet even the on-site dinner reservation process became an ordeal. After being told a specific time was available, we arrived on time only to be told to wait. By 21:30 our reservation had still not been honored. As a group of 8 with small children, we were simply turned away. From what we could observe, we had been misled.
At breakfast, the head of the restaurant, the same person who had mishandled our dinner reservation, scolded me in front of other guests for nearly burning my bread in the toaster. His team followed his lead. What should have been the one bright spot of our stay, as the breakfast buffet food quality was genuinely good, was made uncomfortable every single morning.
For travelers planning ahead, there are several fees this hotel does not make clear at the time of booking. Sun beds at the beach are priced by section. Front row positions are significantly more expensive, while the back rows run around 40 euros. Prices also rise in August. Additionally, you will be charged for washing your pool and beach towels. These are things every guest deserves to know upfront.
Finally, I must address what we observed throughout the property. There were numerous figurines of monkeys dressed in butler attire, and several larger statues depicting Black people dressed in what appeared to be servant clothing. We are a multiracial family who actively teaches our children antiracism values. We noticed. This imagery has a well documented and painful racial history. It is not neutral decor. It added a layer of discomfort that went far beyond poor service and is something no family should encounter at a hospitality property in 2026.
We were so relieved to check out. If we had not been so far from Cagliari and traveling with small children, we would have left early.
I will never return to this property. The only hospitality we encountered in the vicinity came from the small restaurant across the street, which offered more warmth in a single interaction than this hotel managed across our entire stay.
Travelers deserve to know what they may encounter here. I am sharing this so you can make an informed decision.
