We love the style and architecture of this hotel
I feel each time we visit a little bit of the unique magic is stripped away and it’s becoming like a chain hotel…looking cheap and unloved.
We arranged to meet friends in the hotel bar after dinner and it was closed! Even though there were stars around, they could not serve us drinks after 10 on Friday evening. Advising us to go to another hotel nearby. I find this unbelievable in such an establishment in a capital city. So sad.
The location is great - easy walk to the lake, quick walk to restaurants and great cafes all around. The lobby has a cool vibe and you can also rent bikes from the hotel for a bike ride around the lake. Having the theatre on site was also really fun.
Overall, this didn't really meet my expectations. I was initially given a room on the 2nd floor, which was right above the area that deliveries and rubbish trucks came in and out through the night. When I asked about moving to a quieter room the next morning after interrupted sleep, I had to pay an "upgrade fee" which I felt was somewhat unfair given that the room was not soundproof at all (including just normal tone conversations from the car park).
My other disappointment was whilst the rooms and amenities are very "cool," they are a bit more form over function. As an example, to plug chargers in by the bed, i had to crawl under the side table to access the ports - very chic that they are hidden away, but having to deal with dusty and dirty carpets was not so chic. Small touches like the lotion being empty in the room were also disappointing.
The stay felt short of my expectations so I will stay elsewhere next time
Staying one night for work. I have spent quite a while looking for the light switches but it seems alas this is as light as it gets! There is no table for eating or working in the room. I cannot believe how dark the corridors are. I was very confused and couldn’t locate the reception desk on arrival. The most critical thing, the gym, is sadly lacking. Crammed full of useless cardio equipment it has a few pin loaded machines and a haphazard selection of weights - some appear missing - in a tiny room. It is absolutely freezing here in Canberra tonight, and even with the heating of the room set to 27 degrees it is cold AF in this room tonight. And dark….

The bed was absolutely perfect, and the bathroom was very clean. Location was fantastic.
The in room menu didn't cater after a certain hour at night. The rooms were surface cleaned and there was dust in certain areas, also the furninshing was weirdly arranged around the room.
Had dinner at Monster - butternut ravioli and sourdough on the side and it was a good serving size and very delicious. Just what I wanted.
Love love the shower and bathroom - lovely
Lighting in rooms and hallways is a bit dark... and elevators also. More lights would be nice.

I liked the ambiance of the darker lights, more relaxing that bright lights that usually light hotels. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast. I would totally come back for a longer stay.
My room was on the 1st floor closer to the highway so a little noisy during the peak traffic, but hey, someone has to have that room lol. The bathroom mirror needed a brighter light for doing make up.
