Beautiful property overlooking Velas harbor…don’t hesitate to book!
The view from the apartment on the sea and on Velas was excellent. It felt private and very spacious. Lots of light due to the bigmouth window ms and balcony for the evenings. The staff was very accommodating.
The view was amazing and property was very modern. We loved it and will definitely go back again some day when we return to Sao Jorge.
Fantastic stay. Everything perfect with the hotel. Good quality food in the restaurant. You need a car or to take taxis to get to anything. The owner Max was very friendly and helpful.Great views and lovely pool with beautiful view of the sea and mount Pico on the neighbouring island.
This place is amazingly beautiful. Views of Pico and it's volcano, and the town of Velas. People are great. Restaurant is great. 5 minute drive from the airport.
Could not have been happier!
The apartment was was just perfect and you couldn’t beat the amazing views Mat was also amazing working with me through all the mishaps getting to Sao Jorge the only bad part was that my stay was cut short one day is not enough Already planning a return trip
Let's start with the people. Max, the manager at Cantinho das Buganvillias, has been more than accommodating to our group of 12 from picking us up at the ferry late at night to taking us on a full day sightseeing tour the next day. He was super fast at responding and he spoke fluent English too, satisfied all our needs. Our group rented 3 large and clean 2 bedrooms apartments with basic kitchen ware and cooking stove (2 deluxe and 1 superior deluxe upstairs unit) -- all had lovely views. It's got 1 bathroom but has both shower and tub separately so 2 people can shower at the same time if needed! Pretty awesome to wake up to the sound of waves and birds. If you are lucky you may hear the funny sound that cagarro birds make at night! Fantastic view overlooking Velas and you could also see the tip of Mount Pico from the complex. Outdoor pool was a bit small and located at the back of the apartments but the indoor pool and jacuzzi were pretty nice open 8am-8pm. There is also a yoga room too. What a cute place, wish we got to stay there more than 1 night! Next time!
The rooms were spotless & comfortable
The service was very good
The location was very convenient
Bathrooms were wonderful & spacious
Large apartment style suite with mediocre amenities. Beds are very hard. Beautiful view of Velas and Pico island from our patio space. Nice indoor pool and gym. Apartment was infested with ants. Breakfast buffet was limited but satisfactory.
This is an apartment hotel sitting on a bluff overlooking Velasquez. It is a taxi ride to anything else. The restaurant had closed for season. Wonderful sunset view made up for it. My room had 2 bedrooms, barg, livivg/dinning room and pantry kitchen, fully supplied. Would be great for longer stay. Staff seemed more frazzled than curtious.
Worked out well. Place was by ocean and local to restaurants.
The best stay in our recent 3-island trip in the Azores. Beautiful views over Velas (the main town on the island) and the neighbouring islands of Pico and Faial. We almost felt bad about leaving the accommodation to go explore the island.
A nice surprise was the quality of dinner served in the restaurant affiliated to the villas. The waiter was also friendly and encouraging us to discover the tasty food and drinks.
This hotel is in a great location, between the airport and the town of Velas. The property is well kept and the apartments all have beautiful ocean views. The apartment itself was spacious with a living area, kitchenette, big bathroom and large bedroom. The linens and towels were above average. Everything was clean, neat, and orderly. The breakfast buffet was well worth 5€.
In our apartment the bed was two small beds pushed together, bit our preference but ok for one night.
The staff was very accommodating to our flexible schedule and we were very happy (ecstatic) with our stay.
We had just spent 4 days in Sao Miguel at a homestay house rental that was more than twice the price of this very clean and functional apartment and nowhere near as nice. The rental house had old, cheap bedding, no maid service and was absolutely freezing. We also ended our Azores vacation in Ponta Delgado at a 5 star hotel that was very good. I would recommend travellers stay at this location in Sao Jorge as opposed to renting a home. Way better experience and value!
Beautiful
From the moment we arrived, our family was showered with kindness along with an attitude of doing anything to go above and beyond our expectations. The lady at the front counter was so very pleasant, and helped us get checked in. When she learned that my mother was on Sao Jorge to trace family roots, she contacted the hotel owner who also shares and interest in local genealogy. Additionally, she arranged to have a rental car delivered to the hotel rather than have us pay a taxi to drive around for the day. The owner was a very grounded and friendly man, obviously proud of his establishment but rooted in local heritage and focused on guest hospitality. Beyond helping my mother identify some local cemeteries, he sought to find someone from the family lineage who might have more information on the current relatives. This was simply unexpected!
Beyond all that, the owner also helped run the evening bar and dinner service. He made great recommendations, and he and his kitchen staff prepared exquisite fresh meals - all very reasonably priced even if you aren't staying at the villas. Rooms are more like apartments with full kitchens and access to a laundry facility - great for long family stays. Excellent gym, indoor and outdoor pools that were amazing. They also offer a shuttle service to the ferry terminal or airport.
There are simply so many reasons to enjoy this resort and the staff. I highly recommend considering them for your stay.
We stayed in 5 different hotels during this trip and this hotel was certainly the best. Beautiful apartments and top class facilities, but the real difference was that all the staff are amazingly friendly, professional and helpful. The owner arranged a fantastic trip round the island (book it if you can, it is totally worth it) and dinner was wonderful. We will definitely stay here again and so should you.
My wife, son and I stayed in a two-bedroom unit during early July 2014. It was the last of 5 separate accommodations we used during a 16-day visit to the Azores, and it was easily the best of the five. The facilities were very modern, well laid out, and clean. Our unit was spacious and had a fantastic view of the island capital -- Velas -- across the bay. The outdoor pool was mere steps away from our door, and although a bit too cold for my taste, had a great view of the Pico volcano across the strait. As others have noted, the hotel is not far from the ferry or airport, but you really need a car to get back and forth, since the hotel lies off a high-speed road not suitable for walking. Although we had a minor a/c issue during our stay, the property manager, Max, was very responsive in addressing it -- I've never seen technicians show up so quickly -- literally less than 5 minutes each of the two times that the a/c went on the fritz. Great place and a great value!
Very clean and comfortable two bed accommodation with amazing view overlooking Mount Pico on Pico Island. Despite being just around the bay from Velas its not easy to walk into town. A dangerous coastline and steep roads make self drive/taxi only option for visit. Two swimming pools unheated outdoors & heated indoors. Due to date arrival resort restaurant closed for two nights out of three. Continental breakfast was offered daily in restaurant. Despite rooms have full kitchen facilities mine did not have a kettle. Daily maid service was excellent.
Very inexpensive for what you get. Hotel staff were helpful. Gorgeous location.
