The Grand Hotel

Two messages sent via Expedia in advance of stay, no response. Message sent again through online check in, still no response. First room stunk of damp carpet. Moved to second room, which was marginally better, didn't smell. Air vent in bathroom disgustingly dirty. No welcome pack in the room. No fridge in the room. Stale biscuits in the room. Currently undergoing renovations so scaffolding up and banging so a bit noisy. Notification of indoor swimming pool and gym closure after booking, but too late to cancel. No compensation or response to messages about our disappointment about this, despite we know they got our messages as they knew we were no longer bringing our dog. Bar staff seemed very confused about simple orders and housekeeping removed personal item (albeit accidentally, but we only got half back, with no compensation). Hotel was fine for a couple of nights, but wouldn't go back. Staff try and be helpful, but fall short of good customer service.

Clean room but a bit old fashioned. Friendly staff.

Little things like staff not cleaning up drink spills or even apologies for spilling the drinks! Other staff extremely attentive & almost overly apologetic about minor things…!

Restaurant - as a group of 6 we had to wait for all 6 to receive both their starters & then their main courses… after a few minutes it became awkward. Even having bottles of prosecco opened & glasses provided was a ‘waiting game’ … should we open them or is he going to come back & do it…?!

Pool & changing rooms require some considerable maintenance as do other areas … obvious work in places like the bar area … not sure if things like rolled up bits of carpet needs to be left in the public areas?

Otherwise, as said for one night it was good.

Service has improved a lot at The Grand. The hotel is a little tired and my room smelt musty and had stains on the carpet, despite being one of the renovated rooms. The location is ideal, being close to the railway station. The bed was very comfortable and Ligo in the restaurant was extremely helpful at breakfast. I stay every year and check in was much better this year, with my room being available on arrival.

Very helpful, friendly staff, delicious food, luxurious hotel, loved my huge room and bathroom (best shower ever!), parking available on the street and in the garage, and on the seafront, about 10 minutes walk into town. Brilliant experience.

This is the place to be if you arrive by train and no better base for the Agatha Christie Festival or anything at Torre Abbey. The walk along the waterfront is elegant and safe, even at night. The staff are wonderful and if you like good, old-fashioned service and a traditional English breakfast, you will love it. The pool, bar and lounges are spacious and comfortable and the rooms are clean.

Repair to our room was requested. The repair person came noted the repairs needed and nobody did anything about it. Room was not made up on 3rd day talk about lack of customer care

Nicely appointed room, and common spaces. Could see the bay from my window.
WiFi in my room, 427, was marginal. The bathtub is unusable as it is against the slope of the Mansard, you can not stand up in the bath, either to shower or get in or out.

Great sea view from our room. Enjoyed a great massage at the spa. Enjoyed using the pools. Lovely evening meal in the restaurant.

In a convenient area and greta views from room. A little dated for my liking but really good overall

This was our second visit to the Grand Hotel in Torquay. We definitely enjoyed this stay, loved the bed, spacious room, sea view and lovely balcony. The room was warm, so we left the balcony door open and it was more comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style, which was okay, though a bit disappointing for the price. The table hadn't been cleaned, and cutlery was missing. Food was okay.
Checking in and out was easy enough. Lovely building, sea view excellent. Managed to get free parking across the road so that was a bonus.

The Grand supported our needs and promptly handled any miscommunication that came up. The spa is worth your time and the staff were courteous & friendly. Events did mean we couldn't enjoy all the facilities but alternate activities were found and enjoyed.

Hotel itself was nice but bath or shower didn’t work they fixed bath next day and then toilet seat broke.
Had a nice scone and tea and ploughman’s lunch however chef must of gone on holiday as fish and chips was dreadful

Location is amazing - right by the station, the beach and the festival we were attending. Hotel bar is gorgeous but swimming pool area needs some attention and more loungers. Rooms at the top of the hotel are incredibly hot but a fan is provided (we only found that the next morning!). Staff are super friendly and helpful.

The hotel is an icon of the area however the upkeep of the hotel has definitely slipped. The staff did their best to help out where possible but the stay was uncomfortable at best. We really wanted to love it but facing a train station with very worn out bed and a bathroom with mold didn’t have us resting as we had planned.
Unfortunate.

Glamorous hotel, faded in places and could do with a little refurb in the bedroom corridors and around the pool, but we had a lovely stay, the facilities are great and our room was well-appointed. Great location, right next to the station and lovely view of Torquay. We will definitely return.

Staff were friendly enough.Reception/bar/restaurant was nice.some areas of hotel look like they need a refresh/updating.Swimming pool outside needs a refresh or clean?and changing rooms which also weren’t that clean.Room was ok but a bit tired in place.It was clean but window wouldn’t open.Breakfast quite a good choice.Coffee was already made up in a machine which was cold and too strong.Good location though for lots of places.
