Beautiful old world charm and sophistication.
Pros:

Beautiful historic hotel in the heart of Ballarat, close to everything. Friendly staff, great breakfast and meal options, and rooms comfortable with so much old world charm. In a world of other new hotels that are grey and square, Craig's Royal is a refreshing change and a pleasure to stay somewhere with true style.

Lovely period hotel in a central location looking a little run down.
Pros:

The hotel is a fabulously restored period building located in the centre of Ballarat city.

Cons:

Unpainted patches in beautifully ornate ceilings, the bed was uncomfortable (the king size mattress sloped from the centre of the bed to the outside) and an earwig was in the shower. No bottled water was in the room.

Genuine Australian hospitality that feels like stepping back in time to the good old days of Ballarat legend.
Pros:

What I really liked, was the staff - specifically Mélanie on reception, and James - night staff. The first night I stayed, there was an issue. James promptly addressed it and offered a good solution, which I didn’t take up as it was 2am - however he couldn’t have been more apologetic or solution focused.

The next morning, Mélanie at reception was so kind, and made my coffee complimentary. I returned two days later to find I had been upgraded to the most gorgeous Deluxe King suite, which was actually beautiful and the bathtub was up to my shoulders. There were bathrobes etc and truly it was quite the upgrade, and absolutely so kind of the team (the previous issue was noise and something beyond their control)…

This room was silent, grand, and actual bliss; thank you so much Mélanie and James. The staff here are amazing, and the hotel feels like stepping back in time to frontier days in a period drama; absolutely unique and I’d highly recommend.

Customers never mind suffering yhe inconvenience if a problem when the establishment bends over backwards to make amends. These guys went above and beyond with my surprise night of luxury. A+++ service, thank you team.

Cons:

I am left with only good memories of my second night, so nothing to not like.

If you want a taste of old Victoriana - Craigs is the place.
Pros:

Craigs has been restored to its former glory and is a fine example of Victoriana. That's why I went there. The room was very good - clean and warm. In the end I found the decore oppressive but thats just a personal view.

Cons:

I thought the service could have been a little prompter but it didnt bother me much.
