I booked two rooms at the Hyatt Centric Times Square for my family while attending my daughter's graduation.
My daughter arrived to her room to find the TV blasting and the balcony door wide open, which made her feel unsafe staying alone. The following night, the bathroom flooded due to a leak, soaking some of her belongings and forcing her to check out quickly.
The front desk acknowledged the issue and offered a complimentary night because of the flooding. However, when I later spoke with management, they denied any compensation had been offered and claimed there was no evidence of water in the room. Of course there wasn't - this was after my daughter had checked out and the room had already been cleaned.
The most disappointing part wasn't the flooded room - it was management's refusal to honor what was promised and the implication that we were not telling the truth. As a travel agent, I rely on personal experiences when recommending hotels, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property. There are plenty of hotels in the area with much better care for their guests.
Our stay at Hyatt Centric in Times Square was a pleasure for me, but a business trip for my husband. I am a teacher, and it’s my summer break, so I will walk the city and try to see a couple of Broadway shows.
My husband picked this hotel for its location, as it is convenient for him to get to Rockefeller Center and Broadway shows, and for me to get to Rockefeller Center.
Room, Cleanliness, & Maintenance: The hotel is very clean. The room is pretty spacious for an NYC room. There is a desk that I used to eat at a couple of times, a recliner, and space on the wall for two suitcases. They could use another luggage rack, as they only had one. The bed is neither too soft nor too hard. The cleaner on my floor was very friendly, provided extra towels, and cleaned the room while I went for my morning walk. There was security to open doors and ensure that everyone entering was either at the hotel or the bar on the rooftop bar.
Noise & Comfort: The hotel is near Times Square, so it can be noisy outside, but you’re in the center of it all, so expect it. I am not a fan of their soft, squishy pillows, but they have firmer ones available upon request.
Accuracy of Amenities: WiFi was very fast and easy to access. They have a rooftop bar that has good views. The gym was small but equipped with everything necessary.
We chose the Hyatt Centric Times Square for our stay in NYC as we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Our room had a city view on the 38th floor, was spacious (for NYC), clean, and centrally located to Times Square and the many theaters. Customer service was great, and our room was cleaned daily! The rooftop bar was mediocre to me. We didn't have reservations but was seated inside and told we could go outside on the patio with our drinks and stand in a small designated area. The rooftop bar was definitely much smaller than expected. If interested, I suggest that you make reservations so that you can be seated. All in all, it was a great place to stay for the 5 days we were in NYC!
We came in for a broadway show long weekend and couldn’t be happier with our choice of the Hyatt Centric. Great location in middle of all the theaters. Within walking distance of classic tourist sites like Empire State Building, 30Rock, MOMA and Central Park. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
Everything
Nothing to dislike
GM is watching the front office and talking to guests , staff is amazing in all departments , rooms are new and clean and maintained , roof top bar is great !
Well done !
I recently stayed at Hyatt Centric Times Square New York and left disappointed. While the location is excellent and places you right in the heart of Times Square, the overall experience did not justify the cost of staying here.
First, I want to recognize the housekeeping team and the employees working in the market area. They were friendly, welcoming, and consistently pleasant throughout my stay. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk and guest services was the complete opposite. While they were professional, they often came across as cold, distant, and uninterested. The atmosphere felt tense, and I never felt genuinely welcomed as a guest or as a World of Hyatt member. Interactions felt transactional rather than hospitable, which is not what I expect from a Hyatt property.
The food and beverage program was one of the biggest disappointments. I have no issue with grab-and-go concepts, especially in a busy city like New York. However, offering almost no real food options is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel in Times Square. Many guests return after work, Broadway shows, sporting events, or a full day of sightseeing and want the option to enjoy an actual meal without leaving the hotel.
The breakfast was particularly disappointing. I paid approximately $20 for an omelet that was overcooked, hard on the bottom, and tasted like it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. The menu was extremely limited, and the overall quality did not come close to justifying the price. I was also surprised that there were essentially no lunch or dinner offerings, the market closed relatively early, and I did not notice any alcoholic beverages available in the refrigerated section.
The room itself was comfortable, but basic amenities such as bathrobes and slippers were not available upon arrival. These are small details, but they matter at this price point.
What made the experience even harder to justify was the cost. In addition to the room rate, the hotel charges a $40 daily destination fee. Guests are already paying premium Times Square prices, so these additional charges quickly add up. The final bill felt filled with fees and taxes, making an already expensive stay feel even less like a good value.
For the rates being charged, I expected a higher level of hospitality, better dining options, and a more premium overall experience. Aside from the excellent location and the friendliness of the housekeeping and market staff, this hotel failed to meet my expectations.
I will not be staying here again and would choose another property on my next visit to New York City.
Mark at the reception was very professional and kind.
Made our check in process smooth. Highly recommended
Proximity to Times Square was great. Staff at front doors and front desk did not greet anytime we entered the hotel. Hotel average at best.
This was one of the few hotels that actually had Queen sized beds and that was a huge selling point for us. The other plus was location! Right near Time Square but not noisy. Easy walking distance to local attractions and the subway/grand central. There is no free breakfast which honestly was rediculous given how much it cost per night. But there was a small fridge in the room so we walked to Target and bought a few breakfast items to eat each morning. There is also a small coffee shop/food place in the lobby where you can buy overpriced items and a starbucks across the street. The Keurig in the room was nice to have and there was a chair and a desk with another chair. The room was cleaned every day too. The elevators were fast and there was a man watching the entry/elevators at the lobby for security.
The only real downside was the AC unit. It was warm and stuffy in the room when we arrived so we called the front desk who sent a technician, Ciprian, to come fix it. He was great! Arrived quickly and worked efficiently. He said the curtains block the air flow to the AC unit and it shuts off. He reset it and then it worked well but it would only work for about 4-6 hours. We kept the curtains pulled back away from it so that wasn't the problem. We thought this was the stupid occupancy sensor on the AC unit but even after turning on the lights and waiving at it in the middle of the night, it still wouldn't turn on until we opened the case on the AC unit and turned it off and on. We would wake up sweating and had to do this every night. Make sure you test your AC unit when you arrive and ask for a different room if it doesn't work!
Stayed in an Executive Suite for a short stay in New York. We chose the Hyatt as we are loyalty members with status and it was conveniently located for all the things we planned to do.
Check-in was swift, but no upgrade offered as per Amex offer. We queried this and were told it didnt apply to Executive Rooms - this isnt stated in the Amex offer, a larger suite was available to book online that night. Amex offer travellers should be aware of this.
We mentioned this in our feedback survey to the hotel, but Thomas did not address it in his response to us.
The room was pleasant and comfortable, but the sofabed had not been made up ahead of arrival even though they knew how many guests were staying and we had to call twice for guest services to make it up; it was late and everyone wanted to go to sleep.
Sadly that wasn't the only sofabed issue; the mattress and springs were clearly old and squeaked, and led the occupant to fall into the middle during the night. The cushions designed to sit on the side of the bed did not stay in place. Discussed with Jonan at the front desk who offered a replacement mattress topper and a duvet; both of these helped although housekeeping removed the duvet one day and we had to request the return.
There was plenty of storage space, cupboards and drawers, which was much appreciated. Bathroom was clean and spacious and fresh towels provided daily, but no additional amenities e.g. shower caps (like the last Hyatt we stayed in).
One night we were woken at 11pm by a beeping sound throughout the room. This eventually stopped, and then the intercom cracked for a while. Eventually a voice identifying itself as the Fire Safety Officer said there had been a fire alert that was being investigated and to await further updates. This was followed by an announcement asking guests to stay put until there was an update. 10m after the first announcement it was declared a false alarm.
We appreciated the warning but it was unclear what the original beeping was, whether it was a warning to evacuate or what guests were supposed to do. It was never mentioned again.
We used the Market twice for breakfast items - coffee is from a machine and was fine, pastries less so, granola and overnight oats good.
Our room was about halfway up the hotel, overlooking 45th Street. It's Times Square so you could hear noise at night.
Thanks to Byron for helping us with a taxi on departure.
If we wanted to stay in Times Square again we would consider returning, but there are other Hyatt options we would look at.
The location in the theatre district.
The views from Bar 54 are great and the staff all around were great! Great rooms and right around the corner from Times Square!

Great hotel, great stuff, great location.
The stuff were very helpful and kind all the time and for everything even without asking and even more for any request
In the shower there is a strange noise from the pipes when put on hot water . But it is a minor issues
The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly.
We ordered pancakes, and they were tasteless and overpriced — $31 for two pancakes topped with fruit and fruit syrup. How did they even come up with that price???
