It was a nice place to stay with character. The staff were helpful & friendly. Breakfast was good.
Very dated decor although generally well maintained. A lot of stairs and passages, hard to navigate.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The room was very small and looked rather tired. The pictures on the walls were faded to the point of being almost white.
Not actually staying in the hotel, but using the hotel owned property 1a, situated down the road from the hotel in the very picturesque village of Dunster. The property was well presented and spacious rooms, with a quiet atmosphere and very clean. Excellent service from all, meals were very well cooked and presented, especially on the last night we were there (The oven Baked Chicken Breast, with a creamy mushroom sauce) was excellent!!! Excellent value for money! The whole atmosphere was very friendly!
Loved the town, people and shops too. Hotel was on many floors and lots of original features.
Loved the old buildings but after a knee operation I found the stairs and heat too much. Staff were helpful. Unsure if suitable for disabled people and set up for walking holidays. There was a lift but could only b3 reached after climbing stairs. Although dinner was provided if required and 2as very nicely cooked the heater was unable to switched off in thee dining area so at 35° this was uncomfortable. Breakfast was great as they had a cooler on for yoghurt and milk ECT and well cooked.
The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast was lovely with a good choice.
The reception area wasn’t particularly welcoming. It still has the plastic screen around the desk from the Covid period which creates a barrier between staff and guests. Our biggest concern was at checkout, we had already paid for our stay, but after leaving the hotel the manager chased us down the street believing we hadn’t paid which was quite embarrassing as payment had already been paid . This situation could have been handled more professionally and with better communication.
Warm welcome and friendliness throughout our stay. Helpful host. Lovely rooms - nice size, all facilities, great view of main (historic) street, especially old yarn market building. Glorious rabbit warren of a hotel being composed of three adjoining buildings (all old).
Good fresh food in restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Limited menu choice but enough for most (all of my party) - two meat, one fish, one vegetarian. Excellent desserts.
Brilliant location in middle of town and excellent for access to castle and memorial gardens with superb flower displays.
Nothing
Late booking for dinner Tuesday. 14 Apr 26. Well received by the duty manager and very well fed and served by the chef and duty manager. An excellent experience, good traditional food well presented with plenty of vegetables, extra gravy without having to ask and an apple crumble to beat them all. Many thanks for an enjoyable evening.
Very nice hotel with very friendly staff and atmosphere. Large family room with exceptional views of the castle. Generous breakfast. Dunster is beautiful and quiet in Easter. Dinner (at an extra cost) was also very good. Dog friendly hotel.
Nothing, but worth mentioning that the free parking opposite the hotel gets busy. There is, however, room to stop and unload luggage. There is a paid parking 5 min away with enough space at least during Easter.
An old hotel but good. It had a lift, very helpful getting bags up and down floors.
A little old fashioned
Excellent location, owners very friendly, room big and warm, good breakfast.
Nothing.
Lovely building. Dunster is great. Lovely big room as well.
Nothing
A small, old fashioned hotel with friendly staff team (of two) and a very good breakfast. There is a lift for guests with limited mobility but you have to be able to managed steps too.
The bathroom in our room was tiny.
Great location, friendly staff and a perfect breakfast
This is the third time we have visited and the hotel is a real find. Beautiful location in lovely Dunster and surrounded by great walks. Such a friendly hotel with spacious family rooms, suitable for young and older children. Delicious food and specialist weekends from jazz to stargazing! We will be back.
Lovely location
Lots of character
Thoroughly enjoyable second stay at YMH as part of a small walking group. Compact bedroom but everything functioned as it should. Happy with food at breakfast and dinner. Drinks reasonably priced. Owner went out of his way to provide complimentary soup, bread, hot drinks when we returned from a particularly wet & windy walk! Would definitely visit again.
