We enjoyed it overall. The sunday lunch was excellent and drinks weren't over expensive for a hotel.
Pros:

Breakfast room was excellent, food was not too bad.

Cons:

The first room i was given was 4 or 5 flights of stairs up..No lift and at 74 years old carrying 2 cases ,not good. Window wide open and wouldn'tclose, room freezing. Given a better room on fist floor much better and cleaner.

no one to greet guests
had to find our own way around navigating tea coffee etc etc
never asked how we were enjoying breakfast
staff didnt interact with guests
asked for extra toast which they gave us, but i was made to feel uncomfortable. it was delivered put on the table and that was that, no do you need anything else, is everything ok, just no interaction.

the room had no tea, coffee, milk, we had to go down to receiption at 10.00pm to ring a bell where a lady came in from the other side from the bar area and obliged.

the taps around the sink were disgusting and dirty
the shower was stuck inthe middle of the enclosure and was filthy
the ceiling to the enclosure was stained and dirty
behind the door in the bathroom were cobwebs
all in all very disappointed and wished we had booked somewhere else

Great location, large room, friendly staff but the property is in need of freshening up
Pros:

Great location

Cons:

The property in places is a little run down and needs freshening up.
The window frames in the room were rotten, wall paper was pealing, there had been a leak through the ceiling and the shower temperature couldn’t be altered.

Great location by the castle and good VFM
Pros:

Great location and good value for money.
Restaurant food was good
Pub/Bar area was cosy and welcoming

Cons:

Beds were OK - have slept in more comfortable hotel beds.

Pros:

Bar was nice and good location.

Cons:

Room was small and tatty. As we left the cleaners were doing their rounds, we looked in some of the other rooms which were lovely with baths in the room and obviously freshly decorated.....not sure why we got the dull, tatty, small room. But it left us feeling very disappointed.

Lovely old hotel with great breakfast but needs window maintenance!

Lovely rooms, very well appointed and great breakfast

Cons:

My window was jammed open and couldn’t be shut, bolt jammed. I rang reception bell five times around 8pm to no response. Had to stuff gap with towels to keep out coolair and traffic. This was a shame as a lovely old building but at huge cost for one night for two rooms (absolutely nowhere to be had this week on coast) this was a let down.

2 night stay in comfortable hotel.
Pros:

Pleasant hotel on the edge of town and opposite the castle.Comfy beds, good shower in large room.Good breakfast inc. Craister kippers.

I would stay here again.
Pros:

Cosy. Great location, close to village amenities and castle and plenty of parking. Good choice of pub/restaurants. Helpful staff. Nice choice of breakfast. Well cooked meals.

Cons:

No lock on back of room door, nor a do not disturb sign. Wonky sink hot tap spashed water everywhere and extractor not working. Difficulty opening window. All these problems can be easily fixed. Issue with plug sockets all with middle bed of 3 but we worked around it.

Enjoyed the area and the 'Bar' food, the staff were very courteous - a plus!

Cons:

The staircarpet was very grubby,
Only one chair in our room
Toilet very weak flush
Room had no aeration, overnight the window was steamed up. The bed squeaked on the right hand side.
Water pressure was feeble. Otherwise good
