A little piece of heaven! If you’re looking to relax and unwind this is the place.
A little off the beaten track it’s a great place to walk and enjoy the wild, rugged features of the coastline. Watch the kite surfers do their tricks and the let the world drift by.
The rooms have been upgraded and are now well equipped with comfortable beds and amazing showers. Rustic style decor is the theme for the entire resort.
Sunday nights are the best, come down and eat, drink and enjoy the vibe from one of the top reggae bands on the island.
Well done Matt &Will you have done a stellar job - see you again soon
Located near Rescue Beach cool place with friendly staff good communication WhatsApp number on Surfers Bay web site. All rooms face south cleverly staggering and balconies make it open but privacy protected 😊
Essential self catering except evenings, so provisioning and transportation recommended
Would I book again….yes
Peace and Quiet by day but be prepared to enjoy excellent live performances especially Sunday evenings, Saturday and Wednesday
All the staff engaged from house keeping, garden, bar, to Will the on-site Manager family run business 🇬🇧
Google maps easy to search for walkable local businesses
Go to enjoy a special place with without any hustle and bustle, I read, swam, relaxed and chilled out on my timetable 🙏
Just got back from Surfer’s Bay with my family (10, 12, 23) and already missing it. If you’re looking for a more secluded, laid-back spot in Barbados, this place is it. Super easy to get around, and the peaceful vibe was exactly what we were hoping for.
Will and his dad Matt were great hosts. They were kind, engaging, helpful, and always available if you needed anything. Solid people. Reggae Night on Sunday was hands down the best live reggae I can remember hearing.
The restaurant was solid comparatively (great cocktails too), but just a heads-up: it doesn’t open until 4pm, so grab some groceries at Massy’s or another shop to have breakfast/lunch covered. Totally manageable if you plan ahead!
Since I read the other more negative reviews before writing this, here's my experience:
1. The A/C worked just fine. Just make sure to keep the doors closed and it cools down.
2. We only saw ants when we left food on the counter (our bad). As long as you’re tidy, no issues.
3. We had plenty of hot water for 5 people back-to-back after a day in the ocean. No problem.
All in all, we had an awesome time. Already dreaming about going back!
What a wonderful gem of a place this is ! Almost don’t want to advertise this place because it’s so very special . Hidden away but close to the airport overlooking crystal blue seas with turtles bobbing around …. Lovely quiet pool area but fun reggae music nights at the weekend . Wonderful bar staff who do the best rum sours on the island and amazing home cooked fayre from 4pm . Will and Matt are the loveliest of hosts always there for advice and the odd coconut that gets taken down from the palms . Rooms are simplistic but very tasteful and the balconies are wonderful viewing platforms day & night . Surfers bay is a very happy laid back place to stay . I can’t wait to go back !
Exactly as advertised. Close to surf lessons (walking distance!). Rent a car and stage your Barbados vacation here if you want to wake up to quiet surf and wnd your day with a dip in their private pool.
Would stay here again.
We had a great time. This is a hidden Jem and not your typical "big" resort.
We loved our stay at Surfer’s Bay! My husband and I booked Room 11 on the upper floor, which had air conditioning, two bedrooms, bathroom, dining/kitchen space and a terrace with L shaped sofas, hammock and picnic table. The suite was really lovely - it was decorated in beachy neutrals and had everything we needed for our week stay. The terrace and poolside views of the gorgeous blue Barbados waters made our vacation.
The gastropub serves great pub food. The Bajan chicken curry, fishcakes and burger were faves. Music is loud on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday but it’s really fun! I used silicone earplugs to block out noise if I wanted an early night on those evenings.
We hired a Suzuki Jimny from Stoute Avis Rentals at the airport, which was perfect for us as we used Surfer’s Bay as a base from which to explore the entire island.
With a location right on a tropical beach, of course you might find the odd insect or tiny ants, so it’s important to put food in the fridge or airtight containers, keep surfaces clean and wash dirty dishes straight after dining. We were careful not to leave delish Bajan banana bread crumbs anywhere! No bugs in sight after realizing we just had to be a little thoughtful.
Our departure flight was only at 5pm so Will kindly let us leave our luggage at his office in Room 1 and offered us the use of Room 2 to freshen up and change before leaving for the airport.
Our restaurant recommendations included:
Surfer’s Cafe in Oistins for brunch - go early for a beach view table - it is a wow!
Champers in Bridgetown for a romantic dinner
The Fish Pot in Saint Peter (my absolute fave) for a beautiful lunch - the earlier you book the better table you receive. Love their fair seating system!
La Cabane for a chill beachside fish and jerk chicken grill. Stunning beach!
Enjoy!!
Fantastic spot for donwtime and close to the best surfing at Freights Bay! Stunning sunrise and sunsets! Tranquil and serene! The bar and restaurant are great, offering a variety of food and drinks with reasonable prices! Staff are very helpful!
I had high hopes for my stay at Surfers Bay Resort, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. First, the room was infested with ants—I couldn't leave anything out without it being covered in them. Completely unacceptable for a resort that claims to offer quality accommodations.
On top of that, the mini-split air conditioner was rusted and barely worked, literally dripping rusty water onto the counter below it. The refrigerator plug was "spliced" and really dangerous. It was clear that maintenance is not a priority here.
We also came back to our room and a stray cat was on our bed. Friendly but If your party has anyone allergic to cats, this would be unwelcome.
What really pushed me to write this review, though, was the blatant disregard for the resort’s own policies. They explicitly state that children under 10 are not allowed, yet there were multiple young kids running around, making noise, and disrupting the atmosphere. One of the main reasons I booked this place was for a peaceful stay, and that expectation was completely ruined.
I cannot recommend Surfers Bay Resort to anyone looking for a clean, well-maintained, and policy-abiding place to stay. Until they address these major issues, I would strongly advise others to book elsewhere.
To be as fair as possible, the onsite management tried to assist us and was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite. We were also compensated for a few nights after contacting the owner. But I would have been happier paying full price for a quiet environment. The live music was excellent. But, if you want a quiet night there really isn't any way to get away from the performances.
Surfer's Bay is a hidden gem. My husband and I visited Barbados for a wedding and this privately owned, quaint resort was pefect. The room was what I expected and the location was absolute amazing. The views, the relaxing vibes and the easy to go service was all that we needed. We will be back but would definitely recommend to family and friends!
Attention to detail and gracious service are clearly core tenets of this establishment. Gorgeous property full of simple elegance, not fancy yet both laid back and immaculately maintained.
Host Will went above and beyond and was always close at hand to answer any questions and provide service. In the evenings the Gastropub opened with bartender Rico doing an amazing job making us feel welcome.
Took at dip in the ocean every morning although beach was too rough for a full swim. Food was stellar, ate dinner here most nights overlooking the sea with a cool breeze and crashing waves adding to the relaxed ambiance.Saturday and Sunday nights had bands ripping and a great crowd coming in, both tourists and bajan alike with the cover waived as a guest.
Off the beaten path location yet Took the ZD to central oistins in about a 15 min trip.
Sick spot, hidden gem, Couldn’t ask for more
Really lovely property outside the hustle and bustle. Stunning location tucked away for a peacefull holiday. The team are really helpfull and accomodating, there if you need any help.
Great venue off the beaten track but we'll worth a visit, went on a Sunday night great reggae band on ' right side of red ' place was bouncing great outdoor seating also on benches overlooking the ocean with bon fire blazing into the night sky .
Met Matt the owner and was good to hear his journey to where he is now ,been to Barbados many times but never knew about this hidden gem will surely return when next in Barbados
Kimara and her team did a great job. Only wish there were more options for breakfast and a clock in the rooms. But a good time...thanks again
Got home this morning and am so sad its over.
I ended up travelling alone which wasn’t the original plan so I was keen to have a home base & I definitely chose the best one.
Surfers bay is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
I don’t do big fancy high rise hotel complex’s I much prefer the rustic authentic style surfers bay has and it did not disappoint.
The room was perfect and had everything I needed.
The pool area was gorgeous as were the surroundings.
Location was amazing, quiet yes but that’s what I came for.
There is a beautiful walk along the cost to silver sands beach and silver rock beach which i did every day twice a day.
The restraunt is lovely and all the food I tried was fabulous especially the tuna.
The atmosphere in the evenings when the sun is setting with a bonfire and the ocean as your backdrop was just so special.
Staff were wonderful, Matt and Will are lovely and so helpful. They really have created a beautiful space and I can’t thank you guys enough for having me.
I will be back & will recommend to anyone else visiting Barbados.
Thank you so much!

Wonderful, intimate facility with magnificent villas. We had a Junior Suite for part of our week, which is very spacious and a great porch. Then had a Master Suite rest of the time. The Master Suite is extraordinary, especially the ultra-spacious veranda. If you have the budget, book it. The hotel is a short walk to several beaches. The closest, Rescue Beach is located right off the property to the west. Or take the 10 - 15 minute walk east to Silver Rock & Silver Sands beaches. Silver Rock is more laid back and a sparse crowd. Silver Sands has more amenities like beach chairs but more crowded. The hotel restaurant was quite good, but only open late afternoon to evening. There is a restaurant called Driftwood in the South Point Hotel just a 5 minute walk up from Rescue Beach, they serve a great breakfast & lunch (definitely try their fishcakes). We didn't find out until last few days, would have saved us a few taxi rides into town. One of the best highlights are the live music nights on property. Great mixture of locals and tourists from the area. No need to leave the hotel grounds on those nights. Lastly, Will, Matt and the staff are amazing. They are very accommodating with requests and accessible when needed. We highly recommend the hotel. It's not for everybody (if you're the corporate big resort type), but it is for seasoned travelers.
Clean property, amazing host, brilliant views, lively live band in the evenings
Amazing stay overall. Modern room was very nicely furnished including a net over a comfortable bed, room included kitchen utensils, microwave, kettle etc. Very efficient AC.
Lovely pool area with plenty of loungers, chairs and benches near the pool and beachfront. Great spot for sunset and enjoyed some live music and drinks one evening.
Surfers Bay was the best casual laid back place to stay. Great ocean front facility on the south end of the island where things are not touristy at all. Matt and his son will were amazing hosts and the amenities of the property were great. The cab driver, Micheal, who was recommended by the owners of the resort, could not have been any better. Promt friendly and very knowledgeable. He took very good care of us the whole trip
I have left Surfers Bay Resort just two days ago and since the very first day I was feeling like at home, Matt and Will are amazing people and the staff is so friendly, I was very lucky to find them in this peaceful and wonderful place! Anything you need just ask them! To let you understand: I was invited by Will for a private Surf session as well as a dinner in the North West Coast of Barbados! Matt gave me a ride to the supermarket since I did not have a car! I was pleased to enjoy also live music and a drink with Matt 30 minutes driving from the resort! I never met any manager like them in all my travelling experience! The Surfers Bay resort is getting also active on the weekends with live music right in front of a bonfire and the stunning South Coast of Barbados! Lovely accomodation just renovated with a private patio and hammocks. The swimming pool is very well mantained.. Really I don't have anything to say more, only that I will miss a lot my new friends and this stunning place!!!
