Rooms facing hyway are very noisy, had to remind them every day to do my room, because of low occupancy they shut down 1 lift very inconvenient not my problem, overall wasn’t to bad there are other hotels in the area that are equal if not better
Room configuration was wrong for various reasons:
The bed was placed next to the aircon which was blowing consistently over my face, which I had to pile my pillow to. On the second day, I decided to pull the entire bed into the middle of the room so I could at least have a better sleep. Ongoing noise from highway traffic and loud karaoke from the rooftop.
The safe box was not working. I have constantly asked to get it fixed, and staff came to just replace the battery; yet it still does not work, and the cord was dangling and obviously did not do its job.
I applaud
The security guard at the front and at the back of the building was kind and always smiled each time they opened the glass door.
Breakfast was basic and not much of a choice. But staff was always keen to assist.
The pool and garden setting was presentable and a perfect place to chill out, but there was no bar open for me to buy a drink.
Staff services are great! They’re all polite and approachable. Food is okay. The internet connection is disappointing. There’s a laundry shop outside (walking distance)-it’s cheaper. If you don’t want noise while sleeping maybe it’s good to request a room away from the street because the hotel is along the highway. We heard cars honking at night. We wanted to try the VIP KTV but they’re on renovations.
Old hotel.Room are old too. Need renovation. Buffet breakfast are bland and the same dishes most of the time.Reception staff not so friendly but the security guards are helpful and courteous
This is the best hotel in Tagum and we have stayed here a couple of times years ago when the place was still quite new.
The hotel itself is conveniently located and is quite clean and welcoming when you come into the lobby.
When we went to our room however, we found problems in the bathroom. The tap leaked all over the counter and the handheld shower head mount had fallen off and the hose was just wrapped around the shower control valve. There was also no way to get water flowing out of the handheld shower head. This and the faucet should have been repaired BEFORE this room was rented. This was very disappointing to see in a high end hotel which we enjoyed staying in in the past. When I complained to the desk clerk he just basically shrugged it off. It seems that maintenance is not a strong point in this place.
Breakfast was also included and although it was reasonably well prepared it was catering more to the Filipino taste rather than the western taste. It would be nice to have a couple of more items such as bacon and home fries.
2nd best time staying here.
The hotel is very old . It needs improvement
Overall it’s a good hotel to stay at in the Tagum area. Staff is friendly and the food options are good.
The first thing I had to do everytime I enter my room is to kill a few cockroaches. The water from the faucet smells of feet. Will never go back here.
Me and my fiance stayed here this october going into November and I can honestly say it was a breath taking experience, our main man Paul was our man with the plan made sure our room was nice and tidy everyday me and my fiance made sure to tip him good for his service. I definitely want to come back here someday soon.
The property looks good but inside the room is dirty lack of sanitation. Water supply not clean looks old bldg lack maintenance.
Excellent staff
Very accommodating.
The room attendant name Paul and that one guard who help us always to get us tricycle,
you both are very kind. Thank you.
This 2 kind person is good for your company.
Booked this hotel because it had a pool, even though it was more expensive. Upon checking in I was notified that the pool is closed until further notice. Was also told the phones are not working. Room was outdated. Went to the restaurant, which is supposed to be open from 6am to 10pm. It was closed. Also had to kill a few cockroaches in the room. On the plus side, the staff were super friendly.
I like all
Unless you get decent rate or you need to stay in Tagum probably avoid. Free breakfast is good rooms ok but shower looks dirty. Pool is disaster area. Dirty structures and broken pool coping. Little or no attention to maintenance as been performed since opening in 2016. Has the appearance of being run by chinese investors which have little regard for business upkeep.
This was my second stay and I will use Big 8 again. The hot water working was a major improvement from my last visit. As always, the staff was super friendly, helpful , and professional. Food was good, just wish that the bar at the pool had been open.
I really enjoyed my stay at Big 8 hotel. Accessibility and parking were easy and convenient. Their pool was large enough to enjoy with other guest. Workout room was adequately supplied with equipment. The best part was the staff. They were friendly, courteous and welcoming. I definitely will stay there again.
I am a USA traveler. There is not much to choose from in the Tagum area. in the way of hotels. Big 8 SOUNDED like it was a USA Hotel ? But I have my doubts.
The Hotel @ one time had to be magnificent. Sure it is old and decaying. But I can live with that. What I can't stand is having to pay big money for an old hotel, and not able to take a hot shower. On top of a ice cold shower, the shower doors wouldn't stay shut and slid open and flooded the whole bathroom. Maintenance could not fix this. So we had to stuff towels in the opening. But it still made a messy flooded bathroom.
I came here to read the reviews concerning the hot water. "temporary out of service. We are in May, I was there in January. 5 months and you can't fix the hot water heater ? We know now that is a B.S. story. Stop telling your customers that. You have no hot water, you won't fix the hot water, but you want to charge the same price as if you DID have hot water.
Everyone who worked there was as pleasant as possible. The buffet and food was not the worst in the world. It's typical Asian fish and rice centric. I went for the eggs, potatoes and waffles and breads. Rice clogs me up, and it's a bit too much sugar intake. The food was edible for a USA steak and potatoes person like myself. The service ? I loved everyone ,security, everyone. The pool was great ,the gym has some rotted wood floors.
It's obvious this hotel is struggling financially. From no hot water and no wifi to a pool that is a bit past it's prime to a gym on the second floor that has rotted floors, something is going on here financially ?
Sell the hotel Big 8. You are not using it properly. Allow someone to spend a few thousand USD and repair things. Wifi works locally,so that is a lie. Hot water can only be a hot water heater. China has to be able to supply a few hot water heaters easily. Replace the rotted wood in the gym before someone falls thru, you have weights up there and people handling alot of weights working out with machines that are heavy too. So the roof or windows are leaking too. There are Filipino's dying to go to work for some labor work. Get in and fix the place or sell it.
Hot water wasn't working. Charged a fee when 8 friends met us there and brought a cake into the dining room, it didn't matter that we had just ordered meals & drinks for everyone. Wanted to charge us a fee when we brought our own snacks to the pool area which was more than ordering their snacks. Charged a fee to get pool towels and even gave us wet ones (gross - were they used and not washed?). Charged a fee to use an iron and ironing board (per hour). Staff was pretty awesome actually, facilities not at all.
Great place to stay
