Crowne Plaza Chengdu West by IHG

As a loyal customer of IHG. I took a personal trip to Chengdu with my kid and booked 3 nights for a twin bed. Due to some conference Crowne Plaza Chengdu West called me that due to some reason they said upgrade me to a suite at club floor.

Upon check in I told them I wanted a twin bed as the suite only one king size bed. So they said can setup small bed.

On day 1 went to the club lounge without any trouble. And also the 2nd day morning for breakfast. Only on 2nd day evening when I tried to enter the club lounge I was asked to pay for the service. I showed to the staff Ms Ding on my reservation that I should entitled club floor access. But Crowne Plaza West insist my upgrade to club floor not subject to club lounge.

To me what the hotel put in writing also can denied responsibility. I will say I have no trust in this hotel. I hope IHG can put the management of Chengdu West in order.

The staff was excellent. They went above and beyond to make my family and I feel welcome.
The rooms were nice, but some aspects felt past their prime. While the room was non-smoking, there was a lingering smell of smoke in some areas.
The hotel is well away from the city center and required a long walk to get to any food options. However, it was very convenient for our trip out of Xipu Station.

Shower stall was very moldy (black) and the carpet was full of stain. Smelled like beer.

big hotel, not many English speaking staff which is typical for this area. Great location for travel though. The hotel is business orientated, it is huge, it is very clean and is in a good location around a 5-10 minute walk to various shops, restaurants and a metro station.

Excellent hotel at a good price (western standards). Hotel is very modern, clean. Rooms are spacious, modern and high quality. Breakfast buffet was outstanding, with extensive selection.Highly recommend.

I work for one of the nearby semiconductor manufacturing companies. We have found that you can stay in the Chengdu City Center and have a lot of things to do on the weekend, but have a long drive in the Chengdu traffic every morning and evening (45 min to an hour each way) to get to work.

Though not a lot to see around Chengdu West, the food is great, the trip to work is short, and the City Center is only 100 RMB away (~$13 by Taxi). AND the hotel is great!!!. The buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner are great, have a wide variety, and are affordable. Should you choose to go out for dinner, the choices are many, varied, and low priced. There are several malls in the area that have well respected restaurants and I recommend a good Hot Pot house.

All of the service people in the hotel were great and helped us find several restaurants and places to visit. They called Taxi's for us and told them where to take us and assisted with using the meter or not.

The only thing that kept the score from being a 5 was the pool was being repaired and out of service the entire time we were there. It did not appear to have any workmen attending it the entire time we were there either. So not sure how ong it will be this way.

The hotel has excellent facilities like a swimming pool and a well equipped gym. The only downside is that the exterior part of the hotel was undergoing some road work and renovation. There was no proper signage on the way to access the hotel. As the entrance is on the second floor, the path to get to the lobby is not clearly labelled and I had to travel a fair distance to get to the lobby. It was inconvenient when I had a luggage to lug. A few days before I checked out, the road to access the lobby was sealed off and again no access sign was placed to guide the hotel guests to access the main road. I think the hotel needs to be pre-emotive in ensuring that signage is clearly placed to guide the exit and entrance into the lobby from the main road. The staircase also need to be lit properly. On the night when the earthquake tremor was felt, I could not access the ground floor using the staircase because it was poorly lit.

I have stayed here at the Chengdu West Crowne plaza several times over the last few years (all work relatable trips)

I found that on my more recent trip the staff were much more accommodating, very aware of English and being able to help and support guests with any issues. This hotel is used by a lot of people and many spaces are used for external hire such ad the ballrooms. It can get very busy and as a hotel guest you sometimes do not feel that you are perhaps the priority. (on night i was unable to dine at the garden restaurant and eat the buffet as t had been changed in accommodating a large company)

However I must say that there are several members of staff who do go above and beyond and also recognize loyal and returning guests. Evelyn who works in the restaurants says good morning every day and knows what coffee drink I would like. She is very polite and ensure her guests have the best service.

I also met and was introduced to CiCi Zhong (Guest relation officer) SHe noticed that I was a regular guest and wanted to make herself and her services known. She ensured she found me almost everyday as I was leaving or returning from work to say HI, she wanted to make sure my room was perfect and that anything I requested could be dealt with.

She even went as far as greeting me with a fruit basket and personal card just to ensure I had a warm and welcome stay. A very honorable member of staff and again her english is excellent so is very supportive.

big hotel, not many English speaking staff which is typical for this area. Great location for travel though. the rooms were a bit small, should of upgraded when given the opportunity. lots of restaurants (as long as you like hotpot) withing walking distance and a great shopping mall accross the road.

Very comfortable hotel, large clean rooms with bathtub and shower;excellent breakfast with a full offer of European and Chinese food.
Shame I could not try the indoor pool.
Just a negative note: not all the staff speak english

This place is not in the city more of a business hub. The room was huge bed so comfortable had a great nights sleep. The bathroom was amazing so clean but door would not close was stuck. Was to late to walk somewhere for dinner so we had room service but did have to go to reception to order as did not understand us on the phone and had point at what we wanted but did get what we order and it was delicious. Great mix of western and asian food for breakfast and good coffee. Next night did go for a walk and was a nice area to walk around

Returning to this hotel another time, I have to admire the collective will of the team to offer services and hospitality.
The executive club lounge is well equipped with a very friendly team. All girls are very and friendly, willing to help.
Only disappointment is the unique rule that a Spire Elite Member with executive privilege doesn’t enjoy the usual one hour free meeting room, unlike in many other Crowne Plaza. The team shows zero flexibility, embarrassing their guest for begging for a favor. Following rigid and some times unfriendly standard procedure might be an easy solution, but offers no charm of hospitality on common-sense.
The gym is great, but locker room is rather dirty and not tidy, thanks to many outside visitors.
Breakfast in coffee shop is great, so in the executive lounge.
This is definitely the best business hotel in Chengdu West.
