Pros:

Location in Ciudad Vieja near the Mercado del Puerto (and near the Tablado De Carnaval). There are plenty of small fruit stores and mini supermarkets nearby, plus tourist shops. City buses are common here.
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Room and facilities (eg a lift, safe in the room) are decent. The hotel feels secure and safe.
Breakfast price is very decent for Montivideo and is moderately good (sliced bread for toasted sandwich, small selection of fruit, tea/coffee, scones plus plenty of sweet things, sweet corn flakes). Free hot and cold water in lobby.

Cons:

Several nearby streets feel a bit dodgy walking after sunset. There are many abandoned or unused/underused buildings in this area and there's a bit of feeling of abandonment, especially near the end of the day .
The hotel hallways don't have a good smell (but not terrible), as it seems to not have been renovated in a long time . In the end it may not beat the competition considering it's age and the price is not low.
Our room and also there bathroom, was spacious however there was precious little table surface to put our things. (Lots of good closets at least.)

Pros:

Great business hotel on a busy street near Mercado del Puerto. Nice room with (fourth floor) decent soundproofing. Good breakfast.

Ideales Hotel in der Altstadt
Pros:

gutes, sauberes Hotel mitten in der Altstadt. In der Nähe hat es einige Supermarket und Restaurants. Gutes, reichhaltiges Frühstück.

Cons:

Die Türe meines Zimmers (#307) hat die ganze Zeit gescheppert. Mit einer Einlage zwischen Tür und Rahmen hat sich das erledigt.
Frühzeitiger Zimmerbezug kostet due Hälfte einer Übernachtung. Das Klopapier dürfte etwas dicker sein.
