The room and location was prime for where we needed to stay and I do plan to use this location again
Pros:

The location and rooms were fantastic and the staff was polite and professional.

Cons:

The breakfast was something to not smile about. There was no fresh fruit, other than an apple or orange. No pancake or waffle station. The muffins were shrink wrapped Otis Spunkmeyer, how about a tray of muffins that are fresh along with bagels and bread station? The oatmeal station was nothing to write home about. Lastly, the I'd suggest revamping this a little to match the other breakfasts like the Hyatt offers.

It’s a perfect place for a one night stay, quick, clean, and comfortable.
Pros:

Nice big space. The room is really comforting.

Cons:

At night, it’s darkly lit. Also, why charge a parking fee when it’s right in a huge parking lot?

OUR STAY WAS DISAPPOINTING!
Pros:

We were not comfortable. Good thing we only stayed one night.

Cons:

When we travel to Louisiana we always stay at the Marriott Residence Inn. This is the first time we have not been satisfied. The property is old, and it is in need of renovation. The carpet, furniture and bathrooms all need an upgrade. There is a bad smell. Something is definitely wrong with the plumbing.

Fraudulent Charges. Ignored/Neglected by Hotel Staff and Marriott Corporate Headquarters.
Pros:

My family flew to Austin and stayed in Room #134 at this Residence Inn from March 6, 2026 to March 9, 2026. We did not have a reservation. We walked in, asked for a room and paid with a Marriott Bonvoy Credit card.

There was never any animal in our room. We don't own pets and in fact have never owned a pet. No human being or animal ever visited us during our stay. We would have been upset if any animal had ever set foot in our room.

So, it is the height of absurdity that a bogus "Pet Charge" of $100 appeared on our bill. When we checked out, I didn't ask for a paper copy. I didn't notice the fraudulent fee that we had been charged until a couple of weeks later.

At that time, I had assumed that it was a simple mistake that the manager would correct as soon as I called and spoke with them. But it turns out that the hotel staff and corporate Marriott Headquarters would repeatedly ignore me.

On April 2, 2026 at precisely 6:48pm ET, I called the hotel at 512-469-7842 and spoke with "Edgar". I explained the situation and asked to speak to the manager and Edgar said that he would ask the Manager to call me back on Monday.

I waited weeks. Nothing happened.

On April 27, 2026 at precisely 9:02am ET, I called the hotel at 512-469-7842 and spoke with "Eduardo" who answered the phone. I explained the situation and asked to speak to the manager and Eduardo said that he would ask the Manager to call me back.

Again, I waited weeks. Nothing happened.

On May 2, at precisely 6:03pm ET, I emailed Marriott's Corporate Headquarters at "customer.care.resolution@marriott.com" which turns out to be an ironic name for the email address - because there was no resolution. In fact, they didn't even send a reply. The subject/title of my email to them was "Fraudulent Pet Fee for Residence Inn by Marriott Austin-University Area (and Subsequent Neglect by Hotel Manager/Staff)".

To this day, I have not received any communication of any kind from either the hotel or the Marriott corporate headquarters. No phone call, email, text message, or postal mail. Nothing.

The fraudulent "Pet Charge" bothered me, but it could have been very easily corrected and then completely forgotten. However, the total lack of response from hotel staff and Marriott headquarters after reaching out to them reveals extreme neglect if not outright disdain for me as a customer.

Jesus Christ has forgiven me for my faults, and so I forgive each of the people involved as well.

But I am under no such obligation to forgive a corporation. Marriott owns 40 separate hotel brands. For the rest of my days, I will avoid all of those brands whenever possible and will instead seek out brands owned by the other hotel conglomerates such as Hilton (27 brands), Wyndam (25), Choice (22), IHG (21), Hyatt (19), or independent hotels.

I will mention one other unrelated event that occurred during our stay. Inside our hotel room there was a vent falling from the ceiling. See the attached photos. I went to the front desk and reported the falling vent to a young woman (who was NOT the manager) and showed her my photos. The next day it was fixed.

Too many issues to not give a bad review.
Pros:

The breakfast was minimal.
The location was excellent for our meetings and we also liked the stores and restaurants nearby.

Cons:

First we were not told about the hot water boiler being out. Then the elevator was down and 2 of us are handicapped and had to crawl down the stairs. Then we went to a business nearby and when we came back, we could not get in with our room keys.

HORRIBLE
Pros:

The WORST hotel to stay in. The hotel is way outdated, parking fee is a scam, the rooms are old and smell bad. The breakfast is gross. The showers cold and dirty . The people above me stomped all night. The area is full of homeless people

Expensive hotel with lack of maintenance
Pros:

Room was clean

Cons:

AC unit was very noisy. I thought a large semi truck was starting up every time it came on so I didn't get much sleep even with a noisemaker on to drown out the noise. If I had not gotten to the room at midnight, I would've asked for a different room to see if it was better. The door was very hard to lock and the next morning when I opened the door, I could not get the lock to move so the door would not close.
