Hotel Residence La Baia

Do not stay here. I strongly suspect this hotel tried to scam me.

After arriving at Olbia Airport, I was informed by my airline that my delayed luggage would be delivered to my hotel the next day. It wasn’t. The following day – still nothing. Strangely, the receptionist suddenly told me it would arrive the next day, though I was never informed the hotel was in contact with the airline.
For the first few days, I had to wear the same clothes, wash them in the sink, and buy underwear just to get by.

On the fourth day, I saw the airline's delivery van pull up. Minutes later, I asked at the reception about my bag. He denied receiving anything. Soon after, I got an email from the delivery service saying the luggage was handed over to the hotel.

I confronted the receptionist again. He insisted it wasn’t delivered, despite me seeing the van. He claimed they brought “some small items” instead. He then suggested I ask at the bar downstairs – which supposedly had no connection to the hotel, even though they share the exact name and logo. Clearly, something wasn’t right.

When I said I’d call the delivery company and the police, the receptionist panicked. Five minutes later, my luggage “miraculously” appeared. Pure coincidence? I don’t think so.

As a solo female traveler unfamiliar with the local language, I felt deliberately targeted. Being Swiss may have made me appear like an easy mark.

On top of that, hygiene was terrible. The bed was full of dust mites. I developed serious allergic reactions (red eyes, runny nose, constant sneezing, painful headaches, itchy red spots) and had to see a doctor immediately upon returning home. I doubt the sheets were ever changed – they were simply rearranged to look “clean.”

I had booked 11 nights but left after only 6. Between being nearly scammed and getting seriously ill, I cut my vacation short and flew home early.

Do yourself a favor – avoid this place at all costs.

Such an unfriendly welcome when we arrived. Tried our best Italian, woman barely spoke a word to us in any language, just demanded the tax payment and took us to our room without any word about anything. Had to call her back to ask about the air conditioning (which incidentally is in the main living area, not the bedrooms). Apartments are for those happy to slum-it a bit, which we are prepared to do for a great location - which it was. Kitchen equipment very basic. Bathroom a bit mouldy but otherwise clean enough. Shutters broken, curtains kept falling off the wall. Generally shabby, chipped, rusty etc.

Worst things: absolutely banging loud Euro-trash music by the pool. Asked them to turn it down/off but the DJ was enjoying it too much. Even though some of the time we were the only guests there. Also the water in the pool was so over chlorinated that our children got chlorine burns around the edges of their swimsuits and their nipples. They were absolutely raw.

Best thing: location good with lovely view and hearing distance of Castelsardo's bells, although a good 20 minutes walk into town.

If you stay here, don't make the mistake we did - you need a car to get to the beautiful beaches. Apparently the hotel has a shuttle service to the beach but they were so unhelpful and unwilling to try speaking a mix of Italian and English, we never got to use it.

Oh and the WiFi didn't work - we weren't within range of it. Apparently it's only available at the top of the hill in the hotel rooms, not the apartments or by the pool.

Very friendly service and smiled people. Spectacular view to the castle, the town and the sea. Delicious food at the restaurant and everyday sunset watching during the dinner. Very close to Castelsardo, perfect for walks to it - about 5-10 min.

Fantastic view from the hotel at the sea and the Castle. Friendly service. Spacious rooms with big terraces overlooking the sea. Nice restaurant and swimming pool area. Within walking distance from the city centre.

The hotel has a great location - walking distance to the lovely Castelsardo and stunning sea and Castelsardo panorama!

The rooms are different size. Mine was very big and spacious with sea view balcony. It was clean and colourful. The bath was small, especially the shower cabin. There was free WiFi.

The food was pretty low cost. No fresh fruit and vegetables on breakfast. The best thing with the breakfast was the espresso. The dinners (it was a halfboard) were modest consisting of penne with different sauce, some small piece of fish/calamari or meat, dessert. Most of the time the food was good. Glass of wine and water were also provided.
The staff at the restaurant are great - smiling and very nice.

There was an animation during the dinner and it was a torture. The animator was fake singing every evening during dinner with a very loud music.

The pool enjoys the great sea panorama, but Sardinia beaches are so beautiful that we didn't profit from the pool. As far as I understood there was a shuttle to LuBagnu beach.

But if you want to have a good vacation you definitely need to rent a car and explore the North-West and North- East Sardinia. It's better to rent a car at the airport because in Castelsardo is more expensive. There is a free parking in front of the hotel.

There were no mosquitos in the hotel area.

La Baia is a good choice if you want to explore Sardinian NW and NE coast but don't expect any luxury. The luxe there is in the splendid panorama.

An almost nice hotel for reasonable price and food, very well done animation practice, every evening live music and some typical local dance teaching, friendly staff and lovely nature. Well situated within a Castelsardo beach area and easy to reach the town center.
An advice for improving the breakfast with veg and fruit as well the wine quality

Wir waren für 2 Übernachtungen im Hotel Residence La Baia. Bei unserer Ankunft wurden wir überaus herzlich empfangen. Das Hotelzimmer hatte eine Küche (und kleine Espressomaschine!) Zu Fuß brauchte man etwa 10 bis 15 Minuten in die Altstadt. Das wohl beste war, morgens seinen Kaffee auf dem Balkon zu trinken und dabei direkt aufs Meer zu sehen.

Het hotel ligt heel mooi tegen een berg op waardoor je een prachtig uitzicht hebt. De kamer was eenvoudig maar prima.
