Great location. Simple, stylish interior.
The bed was very soft. It would have been good to have a kettle in the bedroom.
The room appeared quite spacious in the ad but was much smaller. I would have liked to have a table but there was not enough room.
Parking was insufficient for the number of guests, room was small, room was not cleaned, beds made or towels changed unless you ordered it.
Location
It was so loud - this hotel wasn’t dog friendly due to the noise at night. When we were there there was a surf party event in the hotel - we weren’t warned about this at the time of booking or prior to our stay and only told at check in. This meant the restaurant was closed that night (again, poorly communicated and we only found out it was closed on the night). The party went on upstairs until 10pm during which time, despite using the white noise machine, our dog got upset and we struggled due to it pouring with rain outside. After the party moved to the pub downstairs you could still hear / feel the bass until the party stopped.
More widely, the hotel has more of a boutique European hostel feel than a hotel - the noise added to this feeling, but the common areas, limited parking (made worse by the party) and the lack of tea and coffee making facilities all compounded to an underwhelming stay. Having now stayed in a few other places in a similar area, the cost felt extremely high for the stay.
Tofino is a small town so location felt less important than it may have in other places but The Maq was well located close to all the action but without excess noise from nearby establishments. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful in organising a boat trip for us. The avocado toast from the cafe was absolutely delicious!
The price felt a little steep considering breakfast wasn't included. The 'digital front desk' idea felt a little impersonal, though I should add we were greeted by a real human :) The parking lot is quite small so I imagine in high season parking may be challenging.

Not much storage and if it had been warm there is no airconditioning.
Super close to the city in downtown tofino. Lots of parking. The cooler box feature was interesting instead of a fridge

Breakfast sandwich was good. Our view and facilities very good.
The entrance to the hotel is up a fairly long flight of steps. All the rooms are then up another staircase to the second floor, and there is no elevator. We are both over 70 and so slightly struggled to get our heavy cases to the room. There were no hotel staff to help; so I would not recommend the hotel for older people or anyone with mobility issues.
Amazing location, easy parking (shoulder season), clean.
Bed advertised as queen but was double mattress on queen frame. Information about noise from downstairs detailed in post-booking message but not before. In our case, the music was off at 10pm, and on again at 7:30am. Esky with ice available downstairs - clever but a pain to empty once melted.
