I'm so conflicted by this hotel. There are some big positives for it, but even more negatives and unfortunately the bad far outweighs the good.
Starting with the good:
1) The location is truly perfect. Restaurants, cafes, shopping and public transport all within a couple minutes' walk. (Side note - I recommend 'Bean House' for amazing pastries).
The area is lively, yet we didn't hear any noise from the street in our room. It was great being right next to the zoo as well - seeing the animals from our window was really fun.
2) The interior design is gorgeous. Every piece of furniture is high quality, unique and stylish, from the reception, to the cafe, to our room. The reading nook in our room was particularly cool.
3) The staff were nice and polite.
The bad:
1) Though the room was stylish and fun to look at, it's perhaps a little too "fashion over function. It got messy and cluttered SO quickly because there's simply nowhere to put anything. The wardrobe is open concept, there are literally zero draws and one open cubbyhole thingy with no door on it. We found ourselves having to just throw our suitcases, clothes and well - everything - on either the floor, bed or sofa, making the room no where near as aesthetic as when we first walked in.
2) We stayed in the XL-Jungle Room. I hate to think how small the other rooms are, because even this one was pretty cramped. We were constantly bumping into things and stubbing our toes on the steps leading to the bathroom.
Speaking of the bathroom - you have absolutely no privacy. It's an open plan design. Luckily we're a couple who've been together for 8 years, so this didn't bother us too much, but it's worth noting.
3) Our room (916) was directly next to a service room, where housekeeping staff were constantly going in and out, slamming the door and rattling the whole room.
4) Similar to the last point - our room was on the 9th floor and the bar is on the 10th. We were woken up at 5am-6am almost every morning by the sound of furniture being dragged around upstairs. Very annoying.
5) On one morning, we heard multiple knocks on the door at 9am waking us up, despite there being a 'do not disturb' sign. We decided to ignore it but 10 minutes later the phone rang. When we answered, someone asked if they could come in and "fix the sink". We were confused because the sink was working fine and we hadn't complained about it or anything. When we looked closer we saw that there was a small chip in it. I have no idea why they thought it was acceptable to wake us up at 9am to deal with this, especially since we'd put out a 'do not disturb' sign.
6) The lack of lighting. Listen - I'm a lamp person. I'm the kind of person who hardly ever turns on the "big light" at home. I prefer a cozy, low lit vibe. However, I also know that is is necessary to have good lighting sometimes. I honestly can't stress enough how dark the room is. There are around 10 different dim lamps and no main bright lights. Even the bathroom/makeup mirror wasn't bright. It was almost impossible to do my makeup or for my partner to shave - I found myself having to use the tiny little mirror attached to my blusher and stand by the window to do my makeup.
The lighting in the toilet is even worse. I understand that it looks cool and vibey - I love that sort of thing - but you NEED to at least have the OPTION to turn on a proper light.
7) Finally, this isn't exactly an official complaint, but just something that stuck in my mind. I booked this hotel as a treat for my partner's 40th birthday. I mentioned this when booking. I don't expect establishments to go above and beyond for every little celebration, but I will just say that this is the only hotel I've ever stayed in where they didn't at least leave a little 'happy birthday' message in our room. Every single time I've ever stayed anywhere else for a celebration, the hotel has given some sort of little treat e.g chocolates, small bottle of wine etc. Like I said, it's not something I expect, but for the price, that sort of detail would be nice.
Overall, the hotel looks great at first, it's impressive and stylish but that quickly wears off. It's the price of a 5* hotel, with the experience of a fancy hostel.
Muito limpo, confortável, pequeno-almoço óptimo, colaboradores educados e decoração.
Nada a registar.
Freundliches hilfsbereites Personal
Preis ist etwas zu hoch
Sehr tolle Unterkunft
- excellent hotel
- nice and supportive stuff
- Roms are decorated nicely; but next time we will book a room towards the Zoo - due to less noise from the Street and green view
