May be the best hotel in DanDong, but manage your expectations
Pros:

The best I can say is: it’s kind of fair value for money, i guess. It is rather old and didn’t age well, but the room was clean. Our room had this unfortunate set-up of a big window into the bathroom, an idea I never understood nor liked, esp. as our view was to the buildings. The furniture is old and worn out, so manage tour expectations.

Big, well apointed, and with a spooky almost no electricity view of North Korea
Pros:

I really like the Wanda Dandong. It is impressively large but clean and well appointed. The wait staff in the dining area are all from North Korea. My Chinese is poor but once I realized they were from across the river, literally, my language problems faded away. we travel a lot so I got a suite. Huge, nice. Rarely used. Pro-tip- before you run the shower look to see that the drains are not blocked in some way with the body hair of a million previous guests.

Quality Hotel
Pros:

There’s a limited choice of hotels for Western visitors in Dandong. This is a Chinese hotel chain, and is well versed in catering for Western tastes, this hotel is no exception, centrally located in the city for all amenities.
Will return!

Pros:

Pros:

OK, but unsmiling service and disappointing pool
Pros:

We have stayed in several different hotels in the Dandong area and this was the first time we stayed at the Wanda Realm Hotel. Because of the rating and the price, I was disappointed in many things. First, there was no bellman to greet us when we got out of the taxi and we moved our luggage ourselves. Second, the staff at reception were unsmiling and seemed to be just going through the motions. Third, the room was fine but I dropped the room card and it bounced under the bed. I had to use my phone light to find it. I also found a very dirty and dusty carpet, including somebody's dropped medicine capsule. Finally, we booked this hotel because it had a pool and we wanted to swim as much as possible during our four-day stay. My wife and I liked the pool very much but she reported that the women's locker room was not clean and the toilet was dirty. The men's room was fine. On two nights, we came 45 minutes before the stated closing time of 11 p.m. Both nights, it was obvious that the staff were not happy that we were there. They wanted to clean up and go home, I assume. There was a sign saying that the pool would be closed for a week beginning out last day. We had hoped to take a final swim on that last day, but that wasn't possible. We didn't eat at the hotel so we have no comment about the food. The hotel is located next to a large Wanda Mall with an IMax theater, which was convenient. It is also in easy walking distance to "Old Street". Taxis were very easy to obtain.

Pros:

Fantastic Service - Nancy
Pros:

The hotel ticks all the boxes, I wanted to make special mention of the customer service manager, Nancy Li.

The first night in Dandong we went to the typical North Korea restaurant close to the Broken Bridge which is very touristy and the service and food is appalling. This isn't a problem as being a first time visitor we are excited to see North Korea. The following day we planned a few activities through the hotel which were good, such as a driver for the Great Wall.

In the late afternoon we called downstairs and asked for some advice and Nancy was extremely helpful, she offered us to either book a small boat on the river or alternatively visit Korea street which is full of authentic North Korean cuisine. We opted for the Korea Street and had the most amazing meal and experience and we returned later to the hotel very satisfied. As we walked into the hotel Nancy again greeted our party of two with a warm smile and genuine curiosity about our experience.

I am truly grateful for the advice but more importantly I / we were treated as not just a dollar sign. Our needs were understood and some thoughtful advice was delivered. I recommend this hotel because of this wonderful service. Thank you :)

Room like a sauna
Pros:

A beautiful hotel, good looking room, nice fitness. Unfortunately the rooms are 27 degrees without opening air conditioning. And when opening there is no cold wind.
Final result: sleep with open window and curtain, while the temperature dropped outside to -16 degrees Celsius.
Also printer for the invoices was broken, solved by sending to our office later to day or this week.

Well located modern hotel
Pros:

IMO - This is the best hotel in Dandong. Centrally located, close to the express train station and next door to Dandong's best shopping/restaurant complex (Wanda Plaza). The rooms are spacious, comfortable and modern. Restaurants on the 2nd floor are of a good standard. Service can be patchy at times, but nothing that is too critical or out of the normal for regional parts of mainland China.

Luxurious facility with service fumbles
Pros:

The grand operatic foyer along with the subsidiary galleries and foyers in this hotel must house a measurable proportion of the world’s stock of chandeliers. The facility here is surely impressive yet, unusual for deluxe hotels in China, manages to stay within the bounds of tasteful. All in all, our experience was a good one starting right at the front desk which was helpful and with good English. For the rest, read on.

The good: our deluxe king room on the Wanda Club floor was clean, quiet, spacious, comfortable and sumptuously appointed. Everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The bed was comfortable, the linens plush and there were enough pillows to cater for most tastes. The décor is tasteful luxe with lots of polished wood embellished with a few faintly oriental flourishes that manages to pull up just short of going over the top.
The bathroom is one of those panoramic all-glass fish bowl affairs looking out into the guest’ room – and vice versa, see below. The included wifi worked well on two of our three devices but not at all on the other. The included (in our package) breakfast is an expansive buffet affair taken in yet another vast chandeliered gallery but, unfortunately, that’s the best of it – see below.

The not so good: there were some glitches with our Booking.com reservation at check-in but it was resolved with smiles all round and we seemed to be doing a better deal than the booking confirmation indicated. The fishbowl bathroom has a screen of sorts but whatever you’re doing in there in whatever compartment is on public display. Maybe OK for the voyeurs but otherwise discomforting.
A few of the inevitable bathroom repairs have something of a patchwork look about them which clashes with the otherwise fine finishes.
The breakfast offerings are extensive and agreeable when you finally get something but the service is chaotic. It’s a find-your-own-table arrangement which, in China, is a recipe for a melee – and it is. There are an army of attendants almost all of whom not preoccupied with their mobile phones are either oblivious or utterly untrained. You can get what you need eventually but a fair bit of prodding is needed – even for something as simple as a plate, or a spoon. The buffet layout is spectacularly obtuse; the eggs are 25 metres away from the bacon and by the time you’ve assembled your choices the earlier selections are lukewarm.
The view across the city from our 19th floor room would have been much nicer if the window was clean.

We'd still come back because much of what we've complained about here is standard in China.

5 star hotel, best in Dandong
Pros:

Beautiful high ceiling lobby, something increasingly rare now given construction costs. It accurately tells visitors that the hotel is a 5 star hotel. Rooms are new and well appointed. Location is excellent, in the area south of the train station in a section that was redeveloped, but just blocks away from older parts of Dandong where you can still find tasty local cheap eats. So that area has the best of both worlds. In Dandong, the older, developed area with lots of shopping is just north of the train station. Comparing the two areas now, both are worth visiting but the Wanda area is certainly nicer and less "crazy", though on the downside has much smaller pedestrian crowds than the older area to the north. You should visit the older area for a more 'authentic' and unique China experience.

Had a nice indoor pool, not crowded. Saw the fitness centre and did not use, but very good gym for China (even top hotels in China often have meager gyms).

A downside: the window in my room has not fit very well, so even when closed I could hear some outside traffic and feel a very small draft. This is something that would not be tolerated in the best international 5 star hotel chains, but due to weaker quality control in China and I guess specifically Wanda, slipped through. That said, I had no other concerns about the room, which looked sophisticated.

Room to hot
Pros:

Nice looking hotel with good service. Biggest problem was that the bedroom was to hot. Climate control open or closed, all with the same effect...a stable 24,5 Celsius degree. For people who prefer a fresh room, I would recommend to find an other hotel.
