Positives - liked the location across from the mall. Front desk friendly. Internet good.
Negatives - in serious need of refurbishing. Ripped carpet, stains everywhere - window, sofa, floor. Housekeeping did not clean well as dog hairs and dirt left all over room we were in. No housekeeping in general around elevator or lobby either.
Shuttle service horrible. Surly driver - just plain mean. We decided to pay the 15 dollars to uber to the airport instead going out as it was worth the cost, plus you get delivered to your terminal instead of the air train drop off.
Parking situation - I think this one may be against the law I don’t know. Cars parked everywhere - on grass, sidewalks and blocking handicap access. With a partner who needs the sidewalks and access this was unacceptable.
DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!
Embassy Suites by Hilton is intentionally overselling parking spots, and their negligence directly caused damage to my vehicle. When I arrived at the hotel after I paid 150 dollars to park because I had a flight to catch, representative KELLY, informed me that they are overselling parking spaces and it was okay to park WHEREVER I find space if I dont block anyone, THAT PARKING WAS ABNAUSEAUS! Desperate people trying to catch their flights parking EVERYWHERE even in the grass. Following Kelly's instructions I parked in a little spot I found after a while and left.
When I returned from my flight, I discovered that my car had been hit while parked on their property. This occurred after I followed the hotel’s own guidance due to their lack of available parking—parking that I PAID!
When we spoke with the manager, Frank Carlo, he was extremely unprofessional, dismissive, and petty. Instead of taking responsibility, he claimed that there was “nothing the hotel is going to do” and tried to blame me for parking in that spot, even though their own employee instructed me to do so.
Hotel is taking people's money without providing the service promised and when something happens you find a petty, aggresive and dismissive manager... UNACCEPTABLE
We normally stay at the airport Hilton but as we needed two nights we decided to try the Embassy Suites. I am a Hilton Lifetime Diamond Member so have stayed at many Hiltons.
I had some concern here as others had mentioned aircraft noise. It wasn’t a problem.
Our room was comfortable, warm and quiet. We did hear the planes but they did not disturb us.
Breakfast was very good. A cooking station as well self-serve hot food.Breakfast area was spacious.
We had a sandwich from the restaurant in the evening and that was good.
The car park was chaotic with cars parked all over the place but there were 3 spaces available when we arrived.
All the staff that we encountered were very pleasant. I have no criticism and will be staying here again.
Absolutely horrific experience. As a LIFETIME diamond member it takes 1,000 stays at a Hilton property, this by far was the absolute worst experience I ever had. After being assured of the simple request to have house keeping on a daily basis the failed to provide the service. Three follow up complaints and a response from the General Manager himself could not get the job done.
Even worse, the hotel apparently rents out their parking lot to travelers flying out of the airport. If there were 100 parking spots, there were 200 vehicles in the lot. They were double parking cars in, lining both sides of the drive way making it almost impassable. There were vehicle in the medians, in the bushes, in the handicapped spots, on the sidewalks, leaving NO room for emergency vehicles if needed, let alone parking for hotel guests!
To top it off, in our 1 week stay, dealing with this daily madness, out vehicle was hit twice and damaged! When we complained to the front desk asking for assistance they washed their hands of it saying all they could do is "help us call the police". Later when I complained to the Hilton Honors Diamond Desk about the property, The General Manager stated this was never brought up. I have a copy of the conversation in text!
Horrible, Horrible place, you are best off to stay ANYWHERE but this place, and like I said before, I am a LIFETIME Diamond member and have NEVER been so miserably disappointed by a property.
First up, this review is more about the "experience" than the hotel. The hotel- really, REALLY nice. Our room was great as was the check in, check out and the breakfast buffet. Coffee in the room was so-so, but the coffee downstairs was really good. Now, why the 2-stars: Newark Airport. Newark. Airport. Sucks. The entire reason we stayed at this hotel was because of time. We were in and out of the NYC area in about 28 hours for an event. We decided to stay at the airport Sat night so we could have an easy trip leaving Sunday morning. And that worked fine. The shuttle picked us up and 15m later we were walking into the the terminal. Saturday night however was entirely off the rails. We took NJ Transit to Newark Airport Sat night. Train left at about 10:04p. Track at Penn Station was announced at 9:54p. Stampede. Way to go NJ Transit. When we got to the Newark Airport stop, we were supposed to take the airport loop shuttle (train) to our hotel. Except it wasn't running. So we got to the stop at 10:30p and were told we had to wait on a bus... for almost 40 minutes (when not one, but two showed up). Then, to add insult to injury, instead of going to the hotel shuttle pickup first and back through the terminals like the train would, the buses took us ALL THE WAY AROUND TO THE FIRST TERMINAL and then through the rest before we got to the hotel shuttle stop (which was one stop away from the NJ Transit stop). That was another 30+ minutes of riding around. The straw that broke that camel's back was after getting to the hotel shuttle stop there was a 20m+ wait for our hotel shuttle (the hotel only has one while other hotels have a couple). So, leaving NYC at about 10p, we got into our hotel room after midnight, more than two hours for a trip that should have taken about 45m. Never again Newark. Never again. And that didn't include the fist fight that almost broke out because an Uber driver was parked in the wrong direction with his door open in the driveway and didn't like how close our driver came when pulling in (the Uber guy was a jerk). Again, hotel room, desk folks, breakfast: A+. Hotel shuttle service: about a C. NJ Transit and Newark Airport: F. Godspeed.
I would definitely not stay at this hotel again. Yes, there is noise from the airplanes coming and going, but that is not the fault of the hotel. It is a convenient location, but that is about it.
The hotel is old and needs some upgrading. The breakfast and happy hour were OK, the restaurant food was also just OK.
The front desk was not at all pleasant, it was an effort for them to give me bed linens to make up the pull out couch. These linens should have been in the room or delivered when requested. We asked for daily maid service, but it was every other day.
The furniture in the room was very old, one chair was peeling. The rest needed an upgrade.
The worst part was the parking. Apparently, the hotel rents out the spaces for travelers using the airport. So there is no parking for the people staying there paying $22/day. When we could not find a space in the lot, we were told to park in the handicapped parking spaces. People were parked on the dividers, all over the place, hard to pull your car in and out. I looked out the window and saw all handicapped spots were taken, what would happen if an actual handicapped person came to check in. Also, cars were parked in the front in the emergency lane, how can that be? What if there was an emergency? This was not just one night, it was several nights when we were there.
I expect more from a Hilton, this is just not acceptable for the rates being paid.
Do not use this location if you are traveling with a car. Their parking situation is horrible. We were told to use a handicap spot or use the emergency yellow zone areas. Which I will not jeopardize safety or block someone who may really need to park close by. Fortunately I had a SUV to be able to hop the curb and park in a mulch pile. The Front Desk staff were less than helpful or polite. They could use a refresher in hospitality Customer Service skills. Too many other options in the area to stay in, this should be picked last.
This is an airport hotel located close to the end of Newark's runways. The night we were there, the inbound flights were all coming in towards the hotel. The aircraft were lined up for hours. The noise level was very high. Not sure when it ended, but I fell asleep around 11:30 PM. In the morning the flights were departing towards the hotel. Same amount of noise and aircraft. Not sure when it started, but I was awakened by 7:00 AM. The even numbered rooms on floors 4, 5 and 6 maybe better for noise level. But I did notice the noise seemed to bounce off the hotel across the street. Avoid even numbered rooms on floors 2, 3 and 4. They are located next to the main HVAC systems over the lobby and conference rooms. Even number rooms face a busy highway, can be noisy when semis go by.
Per NJ law, this Embassy Suites is only allowed to serve one drink per person.
Food at reception was potato chips, cheese, salsa, guacamole, and crackers.
This is an older property, and it showed. We asked for bed linens for the pull out sofa but had to go get them ourselves. They wouldn't bring them up. The breakfast was good, but the breakfast staff were all grumpy and looked like they didn't want to be there. It wasn't worth the price.
Great service and very convenient & food was good too!
I've stayed here plenty of time. Love this hotel. Easy and fast check in.
We parked here for the week. The shuttle to the airport, Terminal A was fine. The return pickup was not fine. This is what they tell you: "Upon your return to EWR Airport, board the shuttle back to the hotel and your vehicle." Our expectation was that we would be picked up close to Terminal A where the shuttles for parking lots are located along with passenger pick up, Uber etc. We learned that was incorrect. We had to lug bags and golf clubs to a bus to take us to air train terminal and then a long air train ride to P4 to wait over a half hour for the shuttle. The driver made no effort to help load the bags in the van. It may be 2 miles from the airport by the way the crow flies, but you are on the van for a long time. You are dropped off at the front door of Embassy Suites which is a very long walk to where the cars are parked. Why couldn't the van just at least go to the general parking area? Will not use again!! Their prices were good, but others are competitive with a lot less hassle.
Cleaning was not done on a regilar basis
The carpet on my room had strings pulled from it in several areas, up to 3" wide by 20" long !!
My family wanted to take a trip on memorial Day weekend my kids were very excited to swim in the pool. We even called before to make sure that the pool was in working order. However, when we got there they decided to do maintenance which was well known for weeks ahead. The manager named Doretha clearly lied to us and she claimed that she told this to us over the phone. Which was not true at all because we simply would have chosen a different hotel. My kids were exceedingly disappointed and it was a big waste of money. We also saw several water bugs in the room when we said something Doretha Just passed us off as if it was no big deal. When we asked for compensation thinking it was 5000 Hilton points which is equivalent to $20 when we spend $400 plus. Do yourself a favor. Don't go to this hotel and you won't have to deal with a rude staff, war bugs and lying manager
Rooms were big and very clean. Staff is amazing! Great breakfast and welcome drinks
Horrible personal. Dirty and broken down room. The breakfast was goo tho. But if you can - avoid at all costs.
Hotel is functional if you are in Newark airport and need a place nearby - the rooms are good size and the staff is helpful. However, cleanliness was a big issue and the breakfast was especially bad (if it's extra don't pay for it).
Nice hotel, good amenities. Airport shuttle very reliable. Excellent breakfast. Rooms need a refresh - older furniture with some wear and tear - but overall a nice room.
Restaurant I give them 5 service good food just the way we order and very good service. Bar lady has attitude not so friendly . They couldah inform us before we pay and reserve for that day that WATER WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THE WHOLE BUILDING ON THAT DAY. But it was too late we check in and note on that night was posted. Front desk Lamar wasn’t very nice at all.
