Howard Johnson Hi - Tech Plaza Chengdu

A nice modern hotel with an open atrium in the center. We were greeted as we entered the hotel with a nice cup of cool fruit salad. Our tour director gave us our room keys and we went up to our room. The bathroom was huge with a large bathtub in addition to a nice walk-in shower with two separate shower heads. Unfortunately, the overhead one had a large stream coming off one side and it shot water over the bathroom floor. We reported this to the front desk. The commode had a square top and was behind a glass door. There was a raised tile at the entry to the bathroom
and also, at the entry to the toilet. These could be tripping hazards to older guests. The small refrigerator and in-room safe were in a closet. An electric water pot was provided with coffee/tea fixings. The desk and very comfortable chair were located under an over head light for plenty of illumination. The electrical connections were
located in a panel within the desk. The king bed was very comfortable with four oversize pillows and a nice comforter. The breakfast area was on the fourth floor and was rather spread out into three separate sections. There was a vast selection of items available to meet the taste of any pallet.

The breakfast was great with a wide selection. Would be good to have bacon.

We were greeted by a human in a panda suit, and there's a big stuffed panda in the lobby... and fish! The room was very large and the bathroom quite unique with cubicles for the shower and toilet -- though transparent, so not very useful.

But this is also where I learned the term "Chinese air-conditioning," which isn't AC by American standards. The HVAC couldn't keep up with the July heat, and several people in my tour group had Maintenance up to their rooms to try to fix it (which was quite difficult given the language barrier).

There's not a lot in the immediate vicinity, but it seemed to be an OK neighborhood to stroll.

Staff was always helpful. Nothing much in the area so dining food was a challenge for me. The hotel was comfortable, the breakfast spread was grand. A little too many choices in POV. The room was comfy, quiet. It's easy to get to downtown.

I was doing business in Chengdu.This is a good hotel,and the staff in frontdesk was very kindly and helpful,and the Panda in the lobby was so cute,it’s better than Howard Jonhson in US,and It’s was a beautiful stay in hotel.

Beautiful hotel with lovely rooms. We came in a group, and they gave us a very nice reception. Beds were very comfortable, with a large bathroom. Extra mirror outside of the bathroom area. Large square tub, and a heavenly shower. Hair dryer, and a nice desk. Electronic buttons for 'do not disturb' etc., which was very nice, but caused us trouble because we didn't get clean towels since it had accidentally been pushed. The breakfast was outstanding with hundreds of choices. They were helpful at the front desk and called a taxi for us. Little market within walking distance. Huge mall not too far away.

If you’re old enough to remember Howard Johnson’s in the USA, you will understand why most of us were a concerned about this hotel. This hotel was exactly as advertised, hi tech! After riding the high speed train from Xian, we arrived late afternoon. The large lobby and open lounge area behind it left us with dropped jaws! Hi-tech is an understatement! Koi ponds near the high speed elevators and wonderful staff were our first impression. My room, had a king-sized bed, desk, wide screen TV and 3 large closets. The bathroom was amazing, with a large soaking tub, separate shower, separate toilet and a large vanity area! The fitness and swimming pool were very nice! The only meal we had there was the breakfast buffet. If you left there hungry, it was your own fault. They had so many choices of western and local foods. I don’t think it is easy walking distance to much more than an ATM. We were so busy, we didn’t need anything more. I don’t have any better pictures than are already on this site. I would Love to go back to this hotel!

We stayed at this hotel whoch is conveniently situated in the centre of all the high tech buildings. The room was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of lifts. We only ate our breakfast here, and I was totally amazed by the vast choice on offer. The staff were exttemely polite and helpful, and the concierge went above and beyond to order us a taxi to take us to the city centre.

First of all, this was a beautiful hotel. Clean, spacious, decent location. The breakfast was varied and hot. We enjoyed our stay. What ruined this stay was the hotel's use of live goldfish for decoration. We arrived at breakfast the first morning to a cloudy globe of water nestled between some pastries with two large goldfish in it, one was dead and floating on the top, no doubt from ammonia poisoning. Goldfish require a MINIMUM of 20 gallons per fish, this bowl was not only inappropriate housing for fish, but was cruel. The next morning, the dead fish had been removed, but sadly, the other was still sitting in this bowl. This made me very sad and ruined breakfast quite a bit. Please remove the live goldfish from your decorative placements, in this day and age, we should all know that live animals are not decorative.

This Howard Johnson Hotel is actually strikingly beautiful, sleek and it’s an oasis of comfort. But a I was very impressed how personable the hotel staff were. Definitely, this hotel is not only for business men but it’s also for regular tourists or even for families...Kudos to the management for understanding how to meet all the needs of a “tired hungry traveler.” The staff were very attentive from the concierge to the room service staff...
The breakfast spread is also very impressive...it’s very a mile long...

Nice quiet hotel. Friendly staff. Spacious room and quite new and clean. Walkable to few shopping malls nearby.

Howard Johnson should not even put that name on this property as it is nothing at all like the HoJo's in the states being an upscale hotel. It is in a quiet business location. It is newer, has a huge lobby, large room, and good quality toiletries. What I thought was the breakfast buffet was only the first part of it as it rounded the corner and went on and on. Very large, lots of variety, and excellent. A small convenience store is located a block away. (Exit to the street, turn left and go a block.) Also close to a pharmacy and a few restaurants. Highly recommended.

I stayed here for several nights during a recent visit to Chengdu. The hotel worked out very well. The rooms were spacious and there was a separate tub and shower. There was also a very nice desk with plenty of space to work and the internet was reasonable. The breakfast at the hotel was also very nice, with many choices - both Chinese and Western. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are staying in the area. I was not responsible for transportation here, so I can't comment on how easy it is to access things from the location.

Excellent everything:
Good room, nice bed, spotless bathroom with separate shower, best breakfast we had in China (with start at 5:30am),, very good pool, sauna and steam bath, beautiful lobby and atrium, nice pool floor, etc., etc.
Nice area right next to historic City walls, view from the window.

Nothing to complain about

Great hotel particularly if you expect a US version of hojo. Room was better than apartment any I've stayed in around the US and around the world. Clean, excellent breakfast lunch. If you're a runner, it's easy to burn. 3 or 4 miles with pleasant views all around. If you're a Starbucks addicted or have a spouse who's going a mania for SB cups there's 1 about 8 minutes away in the ground floor of the 9 square Mall.although cosst coffee is also in the mall and I prefer them when they're available. Staff couldn't have been nicer and check in and out was a breeze.

Stayed for one night and found the room very confortable. The bed is very good and there are a ginormous bath. The breakfast have several choices. Unfortunately, the room service at midnight is too slow to cool us some meal.

Unlike the Howard Johnson hotels we’re familiar with in the US, this HJ blew us away! From entering the foyer to checking into our rooms, we were impressed at the simple class and comfort.

The bed was comfortable albeit firm, the bathroom was roomy with adequate facilities. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the breakfast buffets

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. At first they put me in a smoking room. After a very bad nights sleep they moved me to the 6th floor which is non-smoking floor.
The breakfast buffet is large but every day I am one of the first to the buffet and the food was cold.
Only about a 10 minute walk to the metro.
