Statesman Hotel

The hotel now has a reception desk and receptionist. This should of happened when they renovated the hotel as they had no reception there. It was so hard to discuss checking in or changing a booking as you were dealing with an overseas call center.
This time the receptionist was most helpful and the response to my emails was prompt and accurate.

During my stay at the statesman, I experienced some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. So, on the second night of my stay for a work trip I came down with food poisoning (Not the Hotels fault) However after a terrible night I decided it would be smart to rearrange my cleaning time to give myself some time to get some sleep and not have the cleaners wake me up. At 8:30 in the morning I go to reception and tell the girl what happened she sympathises and tells me it’s no worries and she can move the cleaning time to 2:30, so after some much needed rest I leave my room about 5 minutes before 2:30, give the cleaners some space I come back to my room about 20 minutes later to realise that my room has not been cleaned, I head down to reception to check and I am greeted by another woman, who I tell the situation and she says she is unaware of the arrangement but will call the other worker, so after 15 minutes I’m told that the cleaners have clocked off and that they came to my room but when they knocked no one answered so they didn’t go in (I think this is a porky because they cleaned my room the day before while I was out at work in the morning) but whatever I ask the receptionist if I can have some clean towels as my others have nasties on them, she proceeds to tell me that she doesn’t have access to the closet with the towels but the night manager who comes in at 7pm would. Come 7pm now feeling a bit better I trek down again to reception where I am greeted by a sign that says “Reception is now closed come back tomorrow” with a phone number at the bottom, which I ring only to go to a voicemail prompt. So at this point I am quite upset and still feeling very under the weather just wanting a nice shower and to rid my room of the vomit towels and the smell. I walk into the bar below and ask the bar staff if they could grab me the night manager and explain the situation. No one knows where this “Night manager” is until one amazing member of staff comes and helps me out saying she’ll ring him and try to find him. She then spends about 10 minutes trying to find him before coming back with an arm full of towels and cleaning supplies. She informs me that she couldn’t find the night manager and he must have clocked off but luckily her mum is the cleaner so she was able to access the towels and she even gave me some cleaning stuff the help me clean up the floors. She was the only member of staff throughout that entire day that actually cared and I’m sad I didn’t get her name because she was an actual angel. While I rarely give reviews and even rarer for me to give a bad one, I would recommend anyone stay far away from this establishment as on the odd chance you do have an issue you’ll find 99% of the staff flat out don’t care and will palm the issue off onto the next person until there is no one left.

Nice room, great price and good sevice

Lovely well maintained older hotel/motel. Great staff, very clean with a bit of character. Despite being a hotel, very quiet and well located next to a small shopping centre with a decent supermarket and a small collection of other shops.

No toaster or microwave, while the room (lower queen room) is compact, it is well suited to a 2 or 3 day stay.

Helpful staff.

Recommended as a good value stay close to Woden and the Canberra Hospital.

Friendly staff, Easy check in and clean room. Convenient area to visit everything Canberra offers. Plenty of free parking. Walking distance to coles supermarket .

Perfect place for my one night in Canberra. The Statesman Hotel is integrated in a pub and the accommodation is on top of the ground floor car park with staircase access to the rooms... This was perfect for what I was after and the staff member in charge was fabulous, helping out with storing luggage as I went to my meetings... The adjacent small shopping area has a great supermarket...

Convenient to where I was working, comfortable bed, great shower pressure and onsite bistro, with good food. All good.

Very handy, quiet, clean and all that we needed. We will stay again. Staff very helpful.

Seamless checkin. Excellent room for a modest charge (though I could've used a plate along with the two cups). In house bar and restaurant most convenient.

Still trying to sort out being charged a 1 night deposit by Expedia as well as 7 nights accommodation at the hotel for a 1 week stay. I am expecting a refund sooner rather than later.

Overnight noise from some machine

Rooms warm, beds comfy, Noise from air conditioners above (known issue being looked at) meant I moved rooms three times. Staff were good but it was frustrating for this to happen. Still noisy on the 3rd room, didnt bother to ask again. Suggest staying at back of hotel on lower level away from the noise of pub at the front
Also to note - no lifts so if on top floor its four flights up.
Location to shops, pub (dinner) and areas around Canberra made this a great location.
